SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

This isn't a complaint or similar (I have my confirmed flights the following day), just pointing out a situation that I hadn't anticipated - that having one leg of a multi-leg waitlist clear 'early' will result in the whole waitlist being deleted possibly well before the flight if the other leg doesn't also clear within the 3 day window.

This whole waitlist thing confuses me a bit. Are you saying you have a whY or J confirmed but you have waitlisted a J or F the day before? If so, was the waitlist the day before due to date preference or due to aircraft config (eg suite availability)? I must admit, I was only considering a waitlist would predominantly be on the same flight as the confirmed tix to (hopefully) score a cabin upgrade, however I can see a preferred date may be a good reason for many ... except it throws in all kinds of complications with hotel bookings, meeting dates, onward travel etc (not to mention multi-sector itineraries).

What is general consensus (if there can be such a thing) on most popular waitlist reason?

Sorry ...

I have HKG-SIN and SIN-SYD, both in suites, under one booking, waitlisted for next Sunday (my preference, due to SIN-SYD being A380 suite Vs B777 to MEL). I also have HKG-SIN and SIN-MEL, first leg in suites, second leg in First, again under one booking, confirmed for Monday.

If the SYD booking came through I'd cancel the MEL one of the next day; if not, First isn't bad ....

I thought I'd have until maybe the day before to know which day I'd be flying, and thinking that with last minute cancellations, there was a decent chance that the HKG-SIN-SYD would clear late.

However, now that the SIN-SYD leg has cleared, that starts the timer on confirming the cleared sector - which I have to do by Friday. Obviously I can't do this until the other sector clears. Its unlikely to, so the whole booking will cancel out a couple of days before it otherwise might have and I don't get exposed to 'last minute' cancellations by others.

I'm not too fussed, but just highlighting one of the issues that may arise with multi-sector waitlists.

Update: Per advice from our SQ concierge (or is it consigliere ?) Cruiser Elite, I called SIA and requested an extension on the deadline to confirm the confirmed sector, to see if the sector still waitlisted will come thought. No probs at all - they gave me until 11am on the day before departure. :)

ps SIA call centre in Delhi is awesome - 3 calls, all answered within seconds.

Hi, Having some issues waitlisting. I'm looking at 4 seats in J Japan to oz in july next year, flexible with departure locations. I have secured the oz-japan leg ok. But I punch in the dates and number of travellers, am presented with the options and it says you can waitlist on a few of them. So I go through the whole procedure of selecting all the passengers and at the last hurdle it I get the red x symbol saying unable to do this try again or call singapore air. I called them for one of the flights and they said there werent enough seats, yet it says there is on the waitlist???? Am I missing something? any pointers here? Thanks
I was doing a similar 4 pax waitlisting a few years ago. I could waitlist three of us separately but the fourth would never work.

I had the miles, there were options etc etc, i tried them in different orders and sectors.

In the end, I think I discovered that it had to do with the combinations I was using and I had an unaccompanied minor on one of the bookings which required a form to be lodged somewhere. Maybe it was even that the parents were in J and the kids in Y. The waitlist would just fail without giving me a hint of the problem. In the end, the waitlists all came through on the same flights and we, the parents enjoyed a Christmas swanning around Asia in J while the kids lived it up outside Krisflyer Lounges, sitting in Y and still having a great Christmas.

TIFU by not pre-booking a transit hotel and clearing immigration before checking availability. Gonna be a long night in the lounges!

Had deliberately booked the morning flight instead of the midnight flight to enjoy F but suspect I'll now sleep most of the way home regardless!

But wait - don't buy now - there is more!

Where is my cobber blackcat20? Look at this bc - I headed out of TPR to F Lounge and my bestest buddy Mohamed provides me with this:

Yep basically as CH appeared in TPR PH Rare was consigned to F Lounge - check Mohamed - grinning like the proverbial:

No different when calling the SYD number with no status as well IME. Unlike calling QF as a SG where you wait at least 30 mins.

I would say provided it is pre flt and not arr access you are after it would be fine - never tried such so cannot say definitely - but I would be confident.
I was guested into F lounge recently before a SilkAir flight. From what I understand they were doing the person guesting me a favour so I should not have been guested.

Thanks Albatross. I think I was lucky to get four J seat redemptions on the way out altogether to be honest. So I thought a little out of the box for the return and searched for 2 redemption seats only on some good J flights back and could find availability one day apart. So grabbed them both. So 2 of us fly one day, the other 2 get an extra day but everyone happy. Then I'll keep an eye on availability leading up and if 2 seats become available that we could all fly together I'll cancel one redemption for $60 and put us altogether. At least all our flights are locked in now.

Got an email to say SQ632 SIN-HND on April 24 has been rescheduled. Gone from 0805 dep to 0800 dep.

Nice of them to let me know. I'll set my alarm five minutes earlier.

Many notifications for 5 minute flight schedule changes now come by email. Much better than a phone call is what I am thinking.

How did you go asking about TPR access on mixed class redemptions, CE?
Manager had not started work before I left to head to PVG - I will try to check tonight.

But I am still not 100% clear on your booking - MI have 2 x daily flts SIN-LGK do they not? How did you end up with 36hr connection in SIN if you didn't book a stopover. Did the booking engine just throw up that combo when you searched for a rdpt?

Just checked in for 831 PVG-SIN - cleared immig and turned right foe the trek to security channel 26 - I love channel 26 - again not another soul in sight so waltz straight thru whilst other channels 20 deep.

Head up to CA F Lounge and I am sole occupant again - so now this is 3rd sector this journey for 3rd lounge entry and 3rd time I am sole occupant as I enter each lounge - MEL F / SIN F & TPR / PVG CA F - me thinks I might need to change deodorants.

Edit: My solitude destroyed - 5 more pax just entered - 5 mins of loneliness never killed anybody I guess.

I'm not sure they have 2 daily flights. I've just checked their website and they seem to only fly in/out 3 days a week - see attached a dummy booking. I just booked what the search engine spat out, as I was too excited about the suite availability and an opportunity to stay at MBS. I definitely didn't request the stopover though.

Probably the only thing to add, which shouldn't make a difference is that it was originally booked suites SYD-SIN return, then changed to a mixed class redemption, F the whole way to LGK, with only J availability on the LGK legs. That was thanks to your advice! :)

Half your luck.

Here in the HKG, F check in guy occupied with something on the phone, so I shifted across to the J queue. Exit immigration a zoo. In the SQ F lounge we have a 2 families with 6 kids under 10 running, if not riot, then boisterous. (Sure, as kids can, and often should ... its the parents that I have daggers for). And some weapon-head playing something loud on his phone. Just like the QF Singapore lounge with a Jetstar flight to Bali coming up.

Told we'd be boarding in 15 mins ... until I pointed out that the plane had only pulled up to the gate 5 mins ago :)

Ah. The Brady bunch is leaving. The Veuve is tasting better already.

Any suggestions for the best lounge for SQ11 F (departs at 9am). I think maybe united GF may be closed?

And also best lounge at NRT?

Wife is flying tomorrow. Calling cove!
