SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I've just flown HKG - SYD via CX J and I must say their J lounge( the pier) is much better and less crowded than SQ's First class/J lounge at T3, and more importantly they have Haagen Daz ice cream .

Still prefer the J seats on SQ though..

there's haagen daaz in both HKG and SIN Krisflyer lounges so not following?

Are you converting MR > VA > SQ? if so you are loosing value doing it this way.

MR > SQ is an option and saves you the 1.35 conversion rate from VA > SQ

Best way to get SQ points is credit card sign ups with AMEX then transfer across to SQ

Amex MR -> SQ
Other credit cards -> VA -> SQ

do they have it at SIN? I was there mid december in J lounge and did ask whether they had any desserts and wasn't any ice cream. Was packed though during the time i was there (16th 7pm til 10pm), maybe they had just ran out.
Ok so if they do have ice cream that is pretty good, still prefer the pier though as it had just been renovated last june.

I had Haagen Daz ice cream with some pancakes in the SIN T2 F lounge :D Not sure about J.

Its taken me a few weeks, but just finished reading the past 150 pages or so!! Thanks to everyone for the contributions and great advice. And thanks to CE and MEL for the banter provided at times in regards to TPR invites

Just a few questions I have which I didn't seem to come across the answer to in the previous posts;

1: Are flights redeemed with saver fares refundable if you have a change of plan?
2: What are the chances of a WL saver being confirmed, and since these fares may not get confirmed until the day before DEP, what are peoples travel plans in the event it doesn't get confirmed? Do you buy whatever airfare is available since they've already arranged for travel (taking time off work etc)??
3: Whats the difference between R class and F class with SQ?

Thanks

I think I can answer these for you.

1) Cancellation penalty is $30USD, Date change: $0USD - i.e very good
2) No one knows the answer to that and there is no secret formula, If you've got the miles spare just try it. In that situation I would be booking something else as an award ticket that I can cancel or change my travel dates if possible.
3) F = First Class R = Suites, fully enclosed cabin - Much nicer product!

To clarify on #2, have they not made a change where you can now waitlist without the points in your account, and then have 24 (48? 72?) hours to transfer the points in? I thought I also read that they've been flexible in extending that time to allow points to credit (for instance when Amex MR transfer might take >24 hours to credit..). AND you can waitlist multiple flights as well if I'm not mistaken, even without enough points to cover any of them. Happy to be corrected of course!

Also, I waitlisted a flight, and asked for an escalated request to the revenue manager (I think that is the correct title?) to release the seats. Reservations called me back in less than an hour to advise the seats had been released and to confirm my booking. Granted this was just a week after the flights (I think SQ adds flights 350 days ahead). Two suites had already been booked, but I guess they were willing to release two more (and now less than 90 days out, no more suites have been booked on our flight).

Thanks, that clarifies things a lot.

You're right that you can WL flights on the phone without the points in your account, but by doing so you forfeit the 15% discount. It's still worth it if you have no other option and your dates aren't too flexible.
Good to know also you can call them and see if they can push through a WL you have pending....that would make planning the trip so much easier knowing its been confirmed.

We will be travelling on Singapore Airlines J on an A380 from Beijing to Singapore then Singapore to Sydney in July with rewards booking. Very excited as this will be our first J flight and would like to make the best of things. What would be the best seats to aim for as a couple.

Also any updated info on the best lounge to use in Beijing would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Seats at the bulhead, centre of the aircraft. These will have the most foot space as you get the whole width of the seat for your feet rather than just a tiny cubby.

If those seats have gone, any pair of centre seats, mid cabin probably best as it's away from any galley or WC traffic/noise.

My wife and I took SQ232 in January, sitting in 2C2D, and beds made up in 3A3F..
Great service once again.
Unbeknown to me at that time, I had left my Kindle in the seat pocket.
We went to TPR and after about 10 minutes the Leading Stewardess from our flight arrived, with my Kindle in her hand. I was lost for words.
Such great service.
I have sent feedback to SQ.

Our next trip is in April, with another 4 booked for this year, mostly in Suites.

The other thing that happened on that flight was they actually had one bottle of Penfolds RWT loaded.

Of course we had to drink it all.

I bought a RWT 2007 and had never drank it. Another good excuse to fly SQ Suites.

From reading previous posts not every time it's on the menu do they actually have some onboard
