SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Waitlist what you want while you have the required points then book the confirmed flight (which then takes the points). Waitlist a few days if you have the flexibility. Then if/when one of the waitlisted opens up I believe you can just cancel the confirmed J and take the waitlisted F. The points come back pretty quickly when cancelling and I think you have at least a day to accept waitlist so all should work out fine. Maybe they can do it all in one go if you call? I haven't done the last part so not sure on those specifics.

Thanks that's perfect! Will call when the time comes.

Suzie if you go into 'Manage Bookings' and open up your booking is the correct dep date showing? If it is you have nothing to be concerned about - if not call KF imm. Either way I would call and ask them to explain the discrepancy - not out of cerncern but just because I love to find out all the intracacies re SQ bootkings I can.

Hi Cruiser

Spoke to SQ today re the e-ticket. Apparently there's no problem with the 'valid after' date when you change a booking. It's supposedly for their back office use only. She wasn't really sure of the reason why it shows up like this or what the 'back office' actually use it for, but assured me that the new fly date was valid.

So I've put it down to 'the computer says no'.

Cheers, Suz

Apologies for cross-posting, I did create a separate thread (http://www.australianfrequentflyer....lyer/route-changes-sq-j-redemption-81231.html) but got no responses and everyone seems so knowledgeable and helpful in this thread.

I have a current SQ J redemption for 2 passengers, as below:

BNE-SIN-DPS
SQ256 0910-1530 A330
SQ948 1820-2050 A330

DPS-SIN
SQ939 1155-1435 A330

SIN-BNE
SQ255 0045-1035 A330

I understand that all of the above flights are on the regional J product which is less than spectacular. I am fine if this is what we end up flying (otherwise I wouldn't have booked) although given this redemption is for our honeymoon I'd obviously prefer a better J product if possible.

I've been investigating whether it's possible to transit via SYD or MEL to get on the A380 or B777-300ER which would obviously require a change to the redemption, or a cancellation and re-booking. Unfortunately the BNE-SIN-DPS is pretty fixed date-wise and doesn't look possible. It also happens to be the first day of school holidays so saver availability is pretty scarce. There is availability around the SIN-BNE flight on either of the following flights.

SIN-SYD
SQ231 0045-1025 A380

SIN-MEL
SQ237 2355-0920 B777-300ER

If I were to change the SIN-BNE to SIN-SYD or SIN-MEL,
- is it possible to get a domestic connection on the same ticket to protect against delays on the SIN-SYD/MEL sector? I know we could simply allow a few hours to be safe but I'd rather not have to stress about it.
- is it worth the time and effort to arrange the route change, or just stick with what we have?
- would we be looking at significant extra cost, either points or cash? The SQ booking confirmation email states that "If you make a change to your redemption booking (such as change of itinerary, travel date, and/or passenger name) through KrisFlyer Membership Services, or a Singapore Airlines reservations or ticket office, the online redemption booking discount will no longer be applicable." Does that mean I can make the change online and not lose the online booking discount?

For your honeymoon the A330 is not such a bad aircraft. It has angled lie-fltas, but somehow SQ managed to do them so much better than their competitors... they are pretty flat. The 2-2-2 of the A330 makes talking and sharing easy... which is not the case on the A80 or 777.

You can't add a revenue ticket to an award booking. Nor can you now add another booking to your already existing booking.

It does look like a good setup for couples but the last time we flew back from SE Asia was on QF and we were unlucky enough to get one of the refurbed A330s with the old Skybed. Everything I've read online suggests that the SQ angled-flat A330s are sub-par especially compared to the rest of the fleet which is why I'm having second thoughts as to whether we've made the right choice.

The 772s and 773s with angled lie flats are sub-par - very wide, but kind of 'z' shaped lie-flat(ish). The A30s are next generation, almost full flat. I remember thinking that SQ got these seats 'right' compared to say QF and others where the seats were uncomfortable and you slide down them.

The flights are so short... sleeping is hard at the best of times. By the time they serve a meal on departure, and then a snack before arrival (about two hours out) there is a window of maybe three to four hours for sleep. Even less if it's a full lunch or dinner. It really doesn't make that much difference if you have full flat or slightly angled.

If it was first class from SYD I'd say 'go for it... change'. In F you can be woken as little as 30 mins before landing with a continental breakfast and a cup of coffee. Slightly better to maximise sleep.

For daytime flts where you will be awake and enjoying the fabulous SQ J soft product (ie Charles Heidsieck champs) the regional Weber seats in 2 2 2 layout are indeed excellent seats. They permit total interaction with your partner - they are wide enough not to cramp your shoulders like those ridiculous narrow bodied CX J seats built for stick insects - plenty of storage space around you - good sized TV screen - IMHO a better seat for daytime travel than the wider Diamond seats on 380 / 77W.

O/N totally different story - I can easily snooze for an hour or 2 in the Weber angled seats but to really sleep you need the flat beds on 390 / 77W.

Just a question:

I've got J return flights booked MEL-DPS during easter. The plan was to stopover in SIN on the return leg but availability ran out so I've waitlisted a couple days for the SIN-MEL leg. If the SIN-MEL waitlist clears, how does it work with return flights and points etc. Can I call up to swap a confirmed flight to book the cleared waitlist flight straight away and pay whatever fee is due (re-issue of ticket fee I presume and airport taxes)?

ninja call and get KF to add your desired WL to your confirmed booking - if WL clears is simple revaildation to sub flts and should be no fee.

OK, two SLIGHTLY off topic questions, kind of....

1) If flying Suites, and if we requested, would SQ cater Soy Milk? It doesnt seem to be on the menu. (stop the eye rolling, it is Suites class after all.) :)

2) Anyone have a good car service for a good rate from Changi to Four Seasons? We have EK CD on the departure, so just a one way on arrival.

I think if you book FS Singapore via Amex FHR it includes a one-way car service. I could be confusing this with another hotel, apologies if I am!

Considering the number of lactose intolerant people in Asia - I would assume this is no problem.

Uber Black is your best bet. If you have the Citi Prestige card you can arrange a complimentary Meet & Assist + Complimentary Car Service to the hotel.

Yes Prozac but I wasn't thinking that as I walked with 2 bags along the concourse. Mrscove typically walks about double this distance every morning so she didn't work up a sweat. ...
Carts available at the drop of a hat mate.
As well there's the ubiquitous hand trolleys that happily hold carry-on for two - just make sure you don't grab one with a wobbly/wonky wheel. :D

Have bought a wheeled briefcase so my arms won't grow longer. I am trying an American brand Briggs and Riley from a Camarillo outlet mall store. The vendor said the unit is rated number one in the US. Sometimes my Qantas style briefcase could weigh 10 kgs.

I have had a number of conversations with my contacts within KF and I am almost 100% confident the information I am about to post ...

Revalidation of Tickets – Any redemption made prior to Mar 23 at any redemption level – SR, StdR of Full Redemption (FR) – is eligible for date change, flt timing change or deletion of a pax from multi pax booking post Mar 23 at ZERO pts or $ penalty – they are revalidated at equivalent rates to what existed prior to Mar 23.

...Of course all and any changes are totally dependant on availability of redemption inventory on desired route and required date of travel.

Thanks Cruiser!

Many thanks for the follow up & all this detail Cruiser!

I too have taken the gamble and booked flights I need to move- Can't wait to get them to the right dates in the next couple of weeks so I can stop thinking about them!!

And please pass on our thanks to your best girl too- answering work Q's while on holidays is dedicated!!

My understanding is that a change or origin or destination has always required a reissue. That will require a reprice.
Then your understanding is wrong MEL - over the journey I have changed dest port at least a doz times - Mia thinks this change came ito effect Oct 1 2016 when there was a raft of other back end changes like 2 sep rdpts reqd for mixed class rdpts.

yeah - changing destination is no problem. How they handle the change at the back end is another thing. Changing PVG for PEK for example would would require same mileage etc and the passenger wouldn't even know except for a change in ticket numbers. Maybe madrooster can shed some light - would be interesting if SQ did changes without reissuing.
