SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I think they do vitagen. It's just that CE isn't yet in the SKL (at least that's my understanding).

For noobs like me, can someone please rate the SQ lounges ... eg TPR = ??? and is best???, SKL is just F or is it status as well? What the hang is a FCL and where does that sit in on the opulent stakes. All I know is the SQ lounge we got to use in SIN as VA plat on Y tix was seriously underwhelming (read absolute rubbish).

CE was in the MEL SKL F lounge.

SQ has four lounges in SIN.

The entry level lounge is the star gold lounge - for pax in economy with star alliance lounge entry rights.

Then there's the Silver Kris business lounge - available for all star alliance business class pax (not star gold in Y).

The Silver Kris F lounge is next, for all star first class passengers, and SQ F class pax with guests who are not in SQ F (for example, you are flying SQ F but your guest is in SQ J, you have entry to the SQ F lounge if you want to be together).

Finally the 'top tier' lounge is the Private Room, for SQ F pax only (no guests, if you have a guest and want to sit with them you need to go to the F lounge)

Some top tier SQ status levels may have access to the business class lounge even in economy (rather than having to go to the star gold lounge).

The Private room has upgraded food and drinks but is otherwise pretty sterile. Nothing like the F lounge offerings of QF, TG or LH. Basically you're getting somewhere quiet. But it has no views and nothing much going on (bit like the QF J class dungeon in MEL, but for F)

And the really bestest news - the long lost greatly missed Departure Board removed from TPR last year is to be returned - lounge staff not 100% sure on date but it will be this year.

MEL takes great delight in denigrating the TPR at every opportunity.

I have only been in TG F in BKK twice and TBH wouldn't give you 2 bob for it - buggy ride to lounge - whoopee - if you saw my guts a buggy ride is the last thing I need - their Champs on offer - Piper Heidsieck - again wouldn't have it in my cellar - and the food was nothing spectacular - they offer a massage but surprise surprise were booked out my 2 visits.

LH yet to visit - hopefully later this year.

Everybody knows the quality of QF F Lounges but nowhere near the 'exclusivity' of TPR as all those OW riff r AFF and interlopers share it with QF F pax and high status pax.

If you are not holding a Gold R or Maroon F BP you just do not get into TPR - period - as has been described here on AFF it really has an exclusive club feel about it - so quiet - so relaxing - so conducive to consuming high end Champs.

but you're happy with similarly ranged Clicquot in the SQ F lounge in MEL?

Lounge appeal is subjective. IMO the SQ PR falls behind its competitors in terms of atmosphere. But it does suit its purpose of 'exclusivity' if that's important. (Although once you get an idea of 'real' exclusivity in the LH and LX FCLs you'll see SQ does fall behind.)

I think you missed the point MEL - I was referring to quality of Champs on offer at the flagship Lounges in each carrier home base. But back to your question I could not walk past a Veuve but PH NV i ccertainly can leave or take.

And you keep crowing on about LH F being so superior to SQ - why don't you start a LH thread? I have only ever seen one TR on here re a LH flt and that was less than glowing - maybe you could enlighten us all?

I don't recall that trip report on LH. The general consensus is that LH F is one of the best in the world. Some people aren't drawn to the lack of privacy (there aren't any suites), but in terms of food, amenities and lounges they are a notch above SQ.

This report sums it up: Review: Lufthansa First Class 747-8 Frankfurt To Boston - One Mile at a Time

I think comparing products in an airline specific forum is valid. if you have a once in a lifetime trip, being able to compare is important.

So OT but I will humour you - have youersonally flown LH F and SQ R/F? If yes fell free to do a side by side comparison in a seperate thread - we would all love to see it. Have you personally exp LH F Lounge and SQ TPR? As for the LH TR you missed go check out boomy' LH F TR. and good to see you are still in love with that dude from OMAAT.

I don't take photos of lounges or on board. Lucky at OMAAT does. It's his living and he does a good job. No need to replicate :)

Flown plenty of times LH/LX/SQ F and R

Service-wise LH and SQ are different offerings - chalk and cheese... SQ is distinctly Asian in flavour, LH is European (LX is just 'Swiss'... no need to say more!). You won't get crew agreeing with everything you say on LH... but you might find yourself in a conversation about the easing of financial regulations on Wall Street (if you so wish).

What champs is that CE? Don't recognise the bottle / your pictures need higher resolution :). Last time I was at tpr they had PH rare which was pretty good! Can't wait till my next TPR visit in 2 weeks, only 2 hr stopover unfortunately

Slight correction, some high tier SQ status passengers (PPS) have access to business lounge with guests - even in economy, and the highest tier passengers (Solitaire PPS and their spouse/partner even travelling separately) have access to the first lounge with guests, even in economy or business [same for MEL & SYD F lounges too].

so guys, how do you think I should book the following:

Sydney>Singapore>Delhi (on points in economy)
Delhi>Colombo (thinking just purchasing some 1way cheap *A flights on Air India to earn KF)
Colombo>Singapore>Sydney (on points in economy, with 1-2 nights in singapore stopover)

Basically from ~1/11/17 till ~30/11/17 (can easily do +/- a couple of days either side)
I am SQ gold till 30/10/17 which will lapse and im not going to qualify as havent been anywhere

We have a 6wk old who doesn't have a passport as yet (waiting for birth cert to arrive), who will be ~9months old by Nov. I realise I have to ring to book his ticket but can his passport# remain a TBA for now?

Personally - outside the box, I would skip the two x economy tickets and get one business class ticket return form Mrsdaft009 + infant (check the applicable infant fare), and buy one revenue economy ticket for yourself (you'll get some limited benefits like being able to check-in with the business class passenger). If you can travel a day earlier you'll also get your SQ gold benefits on the outbound.

SQ economy SYD-DELxCMB-SYD is coming in at ~AUD1000.
