SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

We go Crowne Plaza and get IHG points for our stay. Everything works there. We tend to eat at the SQ TPR.

Another SQ catering question.

On all of our flights, according to EF and even on the SQ map, we are the only 2 in suites.

On SIN-SYD flight, I wanted to BTC for the Kyo Kaiseki.

How well do they cater F/R with only 2 Pax on board who have both done BTC for supposed Dinner (although the intention is to have them hold that meal until breakfast and order off the menu for Dinner)?

is that the 0045 flight? have done exactly that before, although it was last March.

Not sure if this is the right place, but I'm sure you Changi Gurus can help out regarding Transit hotel.

Landing in Changi at midnight and have a flight out of T2 at 7am. Would it be best to reserve now or just walk in to book.

Also our flight home lands at about 2.30 pm and we are overnighting in SIN with a flight out at 7.45am in T3. I don't really want to move our luggage in and out of the airport just for an overnighter. I worked out that 11 hrs in transit is about the same cost as Crowne plaza. Would Transit hotel (extend hours) or Crowne Plaza be the go to?

Also how do you go about extending the stay in Transit hotel longer than 6hrs? do you just notify staff upon check in?

if you definitely want a bed i'd recommend booking in advance - it does get full (sidenote is the T2 transit hotel reopen now?)

extended stay - crowne plaza all the way. the transit hotel is very basic, clean room and clean bathroom - that's it.

and to the guy re soy milk - i know this isn't the ideal situation - but could you ask a cafe in the airport to sell you a carton before you board?

Or call the SQ First Lounge in SYD and ask if they have in lounge, and therefore if you can could take some on board .....

There's also "Low Lactose Meal", but obviously selecting that negates the ability to BTC.

Caught up with a SQ Auditor aboard 831 PVG-SIN on Saturday - only 4 pax in F and he was ensconced in 1A. Apart from an hour he spent talking to me he did not stop taking notes / assessing on board performance entire trip - his job is to critique every aspect of on board crew performance. He also actively addresses individual crew members during flight.

As I said I spent an hour talking to him - WOW - WOW what an interesting insight he was able to provide. He has been with SQ >20yrs - 10yrs as IFS before accepting promotion to Audit team. I asked him do SQ employ 'mystery shoppers' at all on flights - his response was that he has heard YES and NO over the years but genuinely does not know.

In 100s of previous flts have never come across an Auditor in flt - just had a fabulously enlightening talk. I have always had a gripe at no USB outlet on 773 or 77W and thought a retrofit should be made - after hearing what costs would be involved I now understand why no refit.

I have used the hotel at about that time three times, and each time they were turning away walk-ins who did not have reservations.

This included one irate passenger whose on-going flight had been delayed and her airline had given her a hotel voucher for accommodation at the hotel, but had not reserved a room for her. She was advised that their hotel was full and so she would need to get her airline to find her somewhere.

In my limited experience, if you don't book the transit hotel in advance, you will be turned away as they will be full.

Interesting, I didn't have that document attached to my tickets. I did have this in the email though.

I did not have it attached as a PDF either.

However looking at my e-ticket now there are four clickable links on page 2 of my e-ticket. The first one is to a page with the same text as the referred to PDF, and the referrred to PDF is available as a clickable link on that page as well.

ok- have done it on that flight too.

just be upfront though, as the 8pm flight is full meal service, whereas the midnight one is the (dreaded food offering wise) sleeper service

Thanks. What about catering vs. pax load? If I order a meal for "dinner", and we are still the only 2 pax in suites, will they cater other choices from the menu still?

have done so previously when i've been on the midnight flight. YMMV.

i would be VERY surprised if that 8pm flight stays as only the 2 of you - I have trouble getting a saver award on that flight regularly. sorry for the dampener

Cruiser Elite did you find the service / quality was any better than any other flight? Did the crew make an extra effort because an auditor was there?

Would that not fall foul of the LAGS restrictions? Assuming unlikely to get a container less than 100ml in size.

Edit: although I could take a 99ml empty container with me. Enough for a cup of tea, but that would be about it.

are you still subject to that if you've cleared security? appreciate it wouldn't work at, at the gate security such as in SIN, but can't see how it's an issue in e.g. SYD

ps - the old daylight savings time is quite amusing - you've posted in the future!

Is fine ex SYD. You can take whatever liquids you want on board, provided they come into your possession after security. At Changi, unfortunately I suspect that DF liquor stores don't sell soy milk and 7 eleven is unable to put it into tamper proof bag ...
