SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Thanks for the reply.

I'm going to try and find where it says that on the ticket T&Cs.

EDIT: I couldn't find where it says this. Not arguing with you PDog, just arming myself for a discussion with SQ...

Wrt the second point, yeah I can leave them tied up. I've got nearly 18 months worth of holidays booked in advance lol. I've been working all this time to get points I should've been working all this time to get more leave as well haha!

Apologies for the second reply....

There was a 4 page PDF attached to both of our e-ticket emails called 'conditions of contract'. Point 8 says the ticket is good for carriage for 1 year from the date of issue (with some unless they decide otherwise elsewhere wording)

hope this screenshot works:

Any ideas how to book BCN-SIN in J class? For July 2017, when I try to make the booking in redeem flights it just redirects to home page. Cash fares come up fine? Does this happen when both saver/standard fares are taken?

That route does not fly every day. So try alternate dates.

I looked at some dates and on some days I can see waitlist in Saver. Never any free Savers on the dates I looked at. There were some Standards bookable though. so if you do not mind the higher point cost you can book.

July 2017 is not far away and is a popular destination. So does not surprise that availability is not open for Savers.

Well, SQ has disappointed my better half before we even leave. I wrote to SQ, and asked if Soy Milk is avail, or could be avail on the flight. Although impressively, we received excellent and immediate personalised communication, and follow up as promised, the answer was:

Dear Mr xx_xx_X

Thank you for your patience while we liaised with our catering departments.

After following up with our Singapore catering team, Singapore Airlines
regrets to advise that Soya Milk is not available on our flights between
Australia, Singapore and Europe, and we would further be unable to provide
this option on board.

Singapore Airlines apologises for any disappointment, and appreciates your
understanding in this matter.

Yours Sincerely,

Nicholas | Service Centre Officer | Singapore Airlines

Ok, I get it, this is a first world problem here, but flying Suites on such a service oriented carrier, I would have thought they would find a way to get some soy milk catered into first class on request.

Considering the number of lactose intolerant people in Asia - I would assume this is no problem.

Uber Black is your best bet. If you have the Citi Prestige card you can arrange a complimentary Meet & Assist + Complimentary Car Service to the hotel.

Another SQ catering question.

On all of our flights, according to EF and even on the SQ map, we are the only 2 in suites.

On SIN-SYD flight, I wanted to BTC for the Kyo Kaiseki.

How well do they cater F/R with only 2 Pax on board who have both done BTC for supposed Dinner (although the intention is to have them hold that meal until breakfast and order off the menu for Dinner)?

Are you on a revenue fare or points through a partner? If points I can understand they may not be going out of their way (although you'd think soy exSIN would be fairly easy given they cater for it on Asian flights).

If on a revenue fare I'd escalate direct to Singapore.

Just get Kris Miles so you can book Suites and First class.
I tried the lobster salad one way and went back to caviar on the way back.
Went the RWT red for a change.

Seems like a technicality to me. You're still buying them through Krisflyer.

Not a big fan of the revenue vs. award argument anyway.

I agree. Award v revenue should make no difference when it comes to on board service or general amenities. But if you're asking the airline for a special service it's a commercial consideration for the airline.

And I'd argue there's a difference between a solitaire PPS and someone transferring points through a credit card or partner, the former has done the BIS miles and generated the revenue.

Anybody been able to find a list of routes the 777-300ER fly? I'm trying to find an alternative First Class route from Europe -> SYD/MEL

Award, but I dont see what it matters. We've "purchased" a product one way or another. Its not like they say "oh, you're an award seat, let me go get the Moet".

yes, you've purchased a product...but that product doesn't include soy milk.

revenue v (some) award tickets might matter from the commercial perspective when asking for amenities over and above what might normally be offered (ie, a change in product).

If you were paying revenue you could cancel and go with an airline that meets your needs.

Pretty much a different point entirely, but agreed (albeit not when it comes to soy milk). My first few SQ F flights were with the team of a former contributor here (for work), and it wasn't until after around a year that I realized not *all* F flights come with chauffeur transfers.

I don't think asking for a substitution for a food allergy, for a first class pax (or even a J or Y pax), is a huge ask. It's not like I'm asking them for a particular brand of soy, a different coffee to what they serve, to find my favourite 2009 Bordeaux, or to substitute New Zealand lamb for my dinner over the local product they are using.

I'm asking them for a common item (that they apparently have on their flights within Asia) so my partner can enjoy a coffee without spending the rest of the flight destroying the F lavatory. The $2 for the soy will cost much less than a few glasses of Johnnie Walker Blue that my partner doesn't partake in.

I've also never bought into the argument about a status pax vs. an award pax treatment. A pax sitting in 2C is entitled to the same treatment as the pax in 1A, regardless of status, or if they bought a ticket, upgraded with points, or used points for the entire ticket. The airline still made revenue, either by the credit card company buying those points, or from fees (not taxes) or from the lower class revenue prior to upgrade. An award seat is by no means a non rev pax for them.

The Solitaire PPS (or other airline status pax) has their dedicated phone line, increased luggage allowance, better access to award seats, their premium seat selections, free upgrades, and all of these are well earned and a great benefit from the airline to loyal customers. I liked having them when I had my status (although I could have cared less about the "welcome aboard MR. xx_xx_, its such a pleasure to have you back with us again, you are sooooooo important, I don't know how we could stay in the air without you" while I'm watching my movie). But any claim that they are entitled to better treatment onboard, meh, I don't buy it.

looking at some trip reports it seems SQ might offer soy milk if you select a vegan meal (even for flights to Australia and Europe).

Wouldn't a lot of Asians prefer soy to cow's product and therefore it would be somwhere on board? You could check out the vegan meal and the steak on board. ;) If you do, let us know what a vegan meal is like. Your partner I mean.

Lol. I could.....
"Honey, good news, you can have a latte on your flight, bad news, your short ribs ex LHR and Lobster Noodles ex Singapore are now Quinoa and Kale salad and seared tofu"!

And yes, I get it... #firstworldproblems
