SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

yup, forgot to add the additional USD $20 fee. That got lost when he told me I could purchase the additional points for USD $2000!

Hi PDog
just playing catch up on the last few pages. So Sq want US$2000 for the extra points. Is that once you have factored in the refund of YQ ?
For 2 x suites return to CDG the YQ is about AU1600 which ok doesn't cover the total cost of the US$ needed but aleast it brings the goal posts closer

Hey Danger, thanks for the maths & encouragement!

The US$2000 was to purchase the 48000(?) points we were short to reissue just a J ticket under the new requirements. You are right though, the tax refund can be deducted from that: AUD$350-ish- I thought that was for 2, but maybe it was each. The R ticket goal posts are unfortunately even further apart, as my points gap there will be even bigger!

Win some, lose some :-) Apologies if it sounds like I'm whinging, I certainly do appreciate that this is still a significant discount from the regular ticket price. We booked tickets for this year just before the Etihad devaluation and successfully changed those with only a $240 penalty... you can't win them all!

ps think the interweb ate my reply... sorry if this is duplicated somewhere else!

Hi PDog
This can be an option if you have a Amex and part of the acsent program- you can purchase points @2.5c per point, and then transfer them over to KF. So for 46000 points, you'll be looking at $1200 AUD. Much cheaper than buying it from KF!!!! The refund in YQ you will receive will cover this cost of extra points easy. :)

thanks firstclasser, I did not know that!

I don't have an Amex in ascent but could rectify that I guess :-) I had been thinking about the AMEX platinum charge card as a solution too.... nice to have options!

the amount of YQ will be listed on you emailed ticket underneath the interary. Should be 1500 to 1600 for two returns YQ does not vary much between J and F

Thanks! $362 in J outbound, €257 in R inbound per pax (entertainingly, google tells me €257 is smack on 362 Aussie pesos!)

Bad news everyone

Called this morning to change my ticket beyond 12 months of the original booking date and no can do.

The clause of 12 months from the first ticketed date is only for when you have actually already flown that leg. To go beyond 12 months of booking without flying requires reissuing which means pay the difference in points (along with a refund in taxes). the guy I spoke with referred to his supervisor to try and push just 3 days beyond the 12 months, but couldn't.

Am going to have to cancel my suite booking- devastated!!

I've been away, just catching up with this thread. Thanks for updating us, appreciate it.

Damn, really disappointed to hear this. Although there were no guarantees this not what plenty of us (not all) believed would be the case. I'm going to have a dig into the T&Cs again.

Ah well, got to be in it to win it. Only small cancellation cost. Better get CC churning.. Luckily I have until August to an extra gather 150k KF points.

Yeah here it is. I don't get it... I will leave my ticket and try to change in August quoting the below.

"19. All award tickets are valid for twelve months from the date of the first flight as ticketed, unless otherwise specified."

I guess there is this too

"11. An award ticket may be reissued, but only for travel by the same person and provided no part of the award ticket has been utilised. Additional KrisFlyer miles may be applicable. If the new journey requires fewer KrisFlyer miles, the excess cannot be refunded. The award ticket at the point of reissue must still be valid. There will be a reissue fee for each ticket. The reissued ticket must have the same expiry date as the original ticket and it must be for the same airline. However, if the date of the first flight on the reissued ticket is earlier than that of the original ticket, then the expiry date of the reissued ticket will be readjusted to the earlier date accordingly."

yup, I quoted that many times, but they were insistent that only comes into play when the first flight has been taken. And they referred me to the 'unless otherwise specified' clause, and pointed out that the terms that came with my ticket said it was valid for 12 months from issue date. I even tried the 'can you stretch your terms for 3 days because your wording is unclear' line, but computer said no.

If I were you though and could afford leave the points and the dollars tied up, I would definitely try again in August. As I mentioned up thread, Velocity / Etihad came to the party last year outside of their T&Cs :-)

Thanks for the reply.

I'm going to try and find where it says that on the ticket T&Cs.

EDIT: I couldn't find where it says this. Not arguing with you PDog, just arming myself for a discussion with SQ...

Wrt the second point, yeah I can leave them tied up. I've got nearly 18 months worth of holidays booked in advance lol. I've been working all this time to get points I should've been working all this time to get more leave as well haha!

Hi all, I'm flying Y SYD-SIN, SQ212 and a KF Gold.

Choosing my seat, but the only seats available on my flight are "Priority" bulkhead seats (I can see 4 open bulkhead seats) with a USD50 surcharge, and all the other seats appear to be occupied. Does that mean they are actually almost full and I will be allocated a Priority seat on the day? I just don't want to sit in the middle row - worst fear!

That's quite normal for SQ, in advance they seem to block most seats in the cabin, various suggestions as to why (group bookings, codeshares, allowing for families to book and sit together, etc), but they tend to open up at ~96 hrs before flight. Set a calendar reminder for then to go back and allocate a seat.

Will try & find it- am at work (clearly... how many posts today?!) and it might be on my ipad. Mine were one way tickets, maybe that's the difference?

I hear you on the leave, I have 0.4 days to last me until next March after the leave I booked this week  Lucky I've also got a secret stash of LSL ;)

Hi all, have an upcoming MEL-BNE-SIN-DXB trip, MEL-BNE-SIN is VA ticketed with the BNE-SIN leg on SQ metal. SIN-DXB is SQ ticketed on SQ metal.

What are my chances of having luggage checked the whole way through from MEL to DXB? If VA can't do that, is my only other option to collect the bag in SIN (including the trip through immigration) then re-check? I have plenty of time between flights but I'd prefer to avoid having to do this.

If VA can't do it all you need do is go to a transfer desk, present your tickets and they will find your bags and tag them for your next flight. This is all airside, no need to pass through immigration.

Ok. The new Booking Window has just gone past the 12 months past ticketing date for my recent booking.

I can online at 0 points and $0 change to dates within 12 months of the date I made the redemption on.

Online I cannot go past that date though. It just states to call SQ.

If I make a new booking on those dates I can make bookings and so I know that there is availability.

I have not called yet as I do not actually want to book for a couple of months yet. But from what others have recently posted it is not looking good.

That was the case prior to the changes, though, which is the reason for at least some of the doubt/confusion.

I agree that it is not looking good. It was never a sure bet, though.
