SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I find it really strange when standard awards are only available for waitlisting, but saver awards are available for immediate booking. There are multiple instances of this for SIN-MEL in J in late May 2017. Cruiser Elite, do you have any idea why this may happen?

Bad news everyone

Called this morning to change my ticket beyond 12 months of the original booking date and no can do.

The clause of 12 months from the first ticketed date is only for when you have actually already flown that leg. To go beyond 12 months of booking without flying requires reissuing which means pay the difference in points (along with a refund in taxes). the guy I spoke with referred to his supervisor to try and push just 3 days beyond the 12 months, but couldn't.

Am going to have to cancel my suite booking- devastated!!

In case any is needed, just some further confirmation that moving out beyond a year from the original booking date requires the higher points amount (offset by a sizeable refund), based on my three phone calls today and yesterday. Each person I spoke to seemed to be entirely on top of things.

So just to be clear.

Would they reissue for $US20 or did they advise that you would have to cancel and then re-book from scratch for $US30.

Also does anyone know if the above fees are per booking rather than per person in the booking? I am assuming in is per booking.

They were happy to reissue for USD20 at no extra charge up until the one-year mark or at the new rates beyond then, but I took the USD30 option so that I'll be free to book online when the time comes rather than needing to call.

Hoping for a clarification from the Singapore Airlines veterans on here.

Flying J Singapore in late July Beijing-Singapore-Sydney. Ticket purchased with Velocity points.

I know I have access to SilverKris in Singapore but I also assumed I would have access to a few reciprocal lounges in Beijing. A poster on another forum posted that this is not the case unless ticket has been booked direct with Singapore.

I know the lounges are not great in Beijing but I will be arriving early by train and they are still a far better option than hanging around the terminal.

So will I have access and are there any recent updates on which lounge to use?

of course you have you have lounge access in beijing!! Singapore airlines business class comes with lounge access, and it doesn't matter if you booked direct or via a partner. Your business class boarding pass gets you in to the air China business class lounge, if you have other memberships or cards you may have more choices (for example priority pass gets you in to the air China first class lounge in PEK).

Hmm ok, I might just cancel my booking too then. Worth a shot.

We have a transit in SIN from 1:30am to 6:55am. We are flying SQ J. Is the business lounge in T3 the best one to spend our time (rest and eat)? I have been there before, but was only there for about an hr earlier in the day, not at this time. Thanks!

There's not much choice really. By the time you get to the lounge it will be ~2 and you'll need to leave around 5.45. 3 hours 45 is an ok time to spend. There'll be a few people sleeping on the couches. The lounge has a few blankets they can hand out. No point going to the hotel.

Personally I always think that a nice hot shower does wonders for the next leg of your trip and morseo if it is a long 12/14 hour one.

So I would take a shower and then have a nap in lounge.

I can't remember the thread this belongs to now so I'll post it here.

There has been some discussion about the pricing of mixed class SQ redemptions. Other than the award chart (where it states a lower cabin may be used if the preferred cabin class is not available), I just found it is also listed in section 22 of the Kris Flyer Terms and Conditions: https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/ppsclub_krisflyer/termsconditions-kf/

22 (d) states:

22. Award Redemption - Award Calculation Rules

d. When a member claims an award in a class of service that is available on only certain sectors of a trip, a lower class of service may be substituted by Singapore Airlines for the other sectors of the trip. The award redemption level for the entire trip may be determined according to the actual classes of service flown or the highest class of service flown.

This is probably a preferable reference for call centre staff than the award table. They can't argue the Ts and Cs are out of date!

There has been a bit of discussion about changing award flights booked under the old rules. I just did such a change and this is my experience.

I booked two seats as J Saver awards last December for CPT-JNB-SIN-ADL, departing in late May 2017. The cost at the time was 123,250 KF miles and ~A$1000.

I wanted to change the SIN-ADL segment to SQ207 SIN-MEL on the same day. CPT-JNB-SIN-MEL was only available for waitlisting but SQ207 as a separate booking was available. I made the call and the change was made. The CSR was very knowledgeable.

The change cost an extra 32,750 KF miles and US$20 each re-issue fee each, but ~AS800 less cash in total.

I hope this helps someone.

This is the short version of the story, the long version is here.

Going back a few days there was discussion about soy on SQ, particularly in F.

I wrote to SQ and got the following reply today:

Dear Ms Tam

Thank you for your patience.

We wish to advise our catering team have approved your request for soy milk for your flights on booking 123456.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

We look forward to welcoming you onboard.

Perhaps worth trying again for those who received a different answer.

GET OUT!

Can you PM me with where you're flying to and from?

herded my parents and brother onto SQ212 this morning.

Was reminded of all the "simple" things you just know as a frequent flyer that you need to explain to someone on their first international flight.

They'll be spoilt flying SQ J on the way to the UK.

Since they all don't drink I'll happily pass on a bottle of red and white to the AFF community

Hi all

I wrote to SQ asking for a birthday cake for my son on 29th July (his birthday is 27 July) and got this reply:

Please be informed that we are able to cater birthday cake if passenger’s flight falls on the birthday itself, one day before or after the birthday. Hence, we are sorry that we are unable to arrange a birthday cake for your son on flight SQ308 as it is departing on 29th July.

Pretty tough if you ask me - and I am flying suites also.

Is there a paid option? I thought i saw somewhere that you can arrange champagne and a cake in economy for a fee. But I can't seem to find that anywhere. Maybe o got my airlines confused.
