SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Pretty tough if you ask me - and I am flying suites also.

They have to draw the line somewhere... if they make it a week either side, someone will complain about their flight being eight days away.

Why not ask whether they could arrange something for a fee?

Disappointing for you. BYOC? :)

Hi all

I wrote to SQ asking for a birthday cake for my son on 29th July (his birthday is 27 July) and got this reply:

Please be informed that we are able to cater birthday cake if passenger’s flight falls on the birthday itself, one day before or after the birthday. Hence, we are sorry that we are unable to arrange a birthday cake for your son on flight SQ308 as it is departing on 29th July.

I would call them.

I'm flying J Singapore to Australia in a couple weeks for my 30th bday. I will be getting a cake onboard even though my actual birthday is a few days before flying. So worth another try!

Only 6 seats in new suites (1/2 current number)....getting one award seat will be difficult, 2 just about impossible!!

There are plenty of 4F cabins exMEL ATM and availability has been pretty good for 2 seats - admit it was booking ~10 months in advance. But availability was there.

I hope the availability in Suites remains.. I would love to get back into one for at least 1 way flight.

Currently sitting in TPR with Mrs tizey about to board a 4 seat F with only us two loaded in. Enroute to T3 after visiting the priority pass lounge for the fish foot spa, we both agreed that whilst business class is nice, first really is pretty special.

Now, to hopefully score some F flights for 2018 when they start to open up!!

A quick question for the brains trust. If I make a confirmed award booking MEL-SIN-HKT//HKT-SIN//SIN-MEL can I then waitlist on other preferred flights for some of the segments?

In theory yes. It can depend upon whether those preferred flights already have been waitlisted by others so the waitlist is full.
If you call and ask, the CSR will be able to tell you if you can waitlist any/all of your preferred flights.

Okay, thanks. Still a little confused. I can see waitlists are available online now. If I go ahead and book the confirmed flights, is there then a function online where I can select to wait list different flights for some of the segments? Also at this point my account would be at zero because I would have confirmed the booking.

I have added a waitlist to a confirmed award booking without needing the extra points in my account as I did it over the phone. I haven't had a waitlist clear yet so I don't know how it works practically when you confirm a waitlist. But I thought if you are adding a waitlist to an existing booking over the phone, so that you are hoping to swap one flight for another, you didn't need extra points. But I could be wrong.

Thanks so sounds like it can be done but has to be done on the phone? Can't be done online?

I think you can't add a waitlist to an existing booking online, only create a new one. Hence, why you need the points if you book a waitlist online. But you can add a waitlist to an existing booking over the phone. Just call up and tell them what you would like to do and if you need additional points to add the waitlist. Now there is no 'penalty' for booking over the phone so make the use of the service! In my experience the call centre is usually helpful. Just be clear on what you want to book as the award booking and what is required to add the waitlist to that/those bookings.

I had a few Saver award bookings made under the old rates, and was hoping to change them once actual travel dates entered system range. All travel dates over 12 months after date of ticketing.

The first booking change went really well, must have gotten a dud operator as my dates were amended with no questions asked. Pricing didn't even enter the discussion.

Not so lucky on the 2nd attempt. As others have observed from their interaction with call centre operators, the "12 month after date of 1st flight" validity clause refers to the maximum stay period on a return itinerary or an itinerary with a stopover. This in turn has to be read in conjunction with the CoC which gives the ticket a 12 month shelf life from the date of ticketing - same as a commercial ticket; if date of travel is extended past 12 months from date of ticketing, the ticket will need to be reissued with a $20 fee (as opposed to the usual complimentary revals) at which point the higher Points pricing/lower +++s will apply.

I see quite a few people have managed to use the 12 month from date of 1st flight rule to get around mileage expiry in the past, but I guess the redemption pricing changes have heightened the level of attention paid to 'simple' date changes.

Yes. But that is now.

If a lot of the 12 seat Suite Capacity gets converted to 6 seats then there could be a cascade effect in more people chasing those F Seats. Moreso if the 2 Saver Seats in the new Suites disappear.

As it is those who have been getting Waitlist F/Suites may also in future years then find it harder to get and have cleared.

What time do Singapore flights open up 355 days out? Is it midnight Singapore time?

Want to make sure get best chance at some flights this week opening up. Had planned some CX flights originally, but they didn't open up as hoped, and with it being honeymoon flights, i want to make sure I've got departure covered.
