SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Booked myself on SQ222 in suites to SIN and J onto HAN during Xmas period for 80K krisflyer pts plus $cash. Transit around 12 hours. Really looking forward to this flight .... my first Suites/First ever flight. Woohoo. Am I allowed into the TPR if my outbound flight from SIN is J?

Arr into SIN holding GOLD SUITES BP or MARRON FIRST CLASS BP entitles holder up to 24hrs TPR arr access post flt arr time regardless of pax intended activities post arr into SIN - ie 1. Terminating in SIN 2. Onward flt on SQ in any class 3. Onward flt on any carrier.

This is an 'unpublished benefit' and can not be found listed anywhere on SQ web site.

I did this exact flight last Christmas and had no issues with TPR access and F Lounge access in T2 before our flight to HAN.

We couldn't get a room in any of the transit hotels so we ended up sleeping in the TPR and J Lounge - staff were very accommodating with blankets and pillows. If you don't end up at a transit hotel then I'd recommend getting over the back left corner of the J Lounge early enough to get yourself a good spot on the couches. Take some ear plugs with you if you're a light sleeper as the lounge can be noisy right up til 1am - we had screaming kids running around the lounge at 2.

In Hanoi, there was a massive line for Visas on arrival and we ended up waiting over an hour to get our Visas. We did the Visa on arrival, but there are other options too - you can either send your passport to the consulate or arrange a 'VIP' transfer on arrival. I used Vietnam Visa Pro who were very prompt with my Visa letter.

Yes. Your inbound boarding pass + short transit = TPR access.

Yep, 100% TPR access is granted. I did this no issue 2 weeks ago and had breakfast at the TPR on a 14hr transit to HAN.

Thanks guys.

Should I book the Changi Transit Hotel a month before I leave?

Book the transit hotel asap. I tried booking 2 months in advance and couldn't get in. On the way back I stayed in the T1 transit hotel which is roughly a 15min walk from T3. it was the only option available.

Crowne Plaza just outside customs is often available, though is more expensive. Though if the stay is a bit longer than the 6 hours then works out about te same as the extra /hour cost adds up. Crowne Plaza rooms are also much nicer.

But also no guarantee of availability - I could not get ST rate from them on Apr 1 due to 100% occupancy so I would not be surprised if ST rooms only made available if occupancy permits - but I might be wrong.

Yabba dabba doooooooooooooooooooo! 2 x F MEL-NRT seats confirmed and ticketed for April 2018 to kickstart our honeymoon departing Melbourne at a perfect time the day after our wedding.

Have also waitlisted the MEL-HND flight which matches up to our MEL-SIN flight perfectly as its a more convenient airport to arrive into Tokyo, and the call centre staff member has sent a chaser already for the HND leg as its for our honeymoon, but even if it doesnt come through, we're set to get things rolling!

Wow, so emailed them back, saying a colleague has advised me that their request for soy milk on flights between Australia, Singapore, and Europe has been approved.... can you please confirm the availability.... and SQ responded with "we are unable to assist with clarifying the matter further".

Giving up. What a way for SQ to make an impression before we even arrive at the airport. They missed the mark on their values on this occasion:

Going back a few days there was discussion about soy on SQ, particularly in F.

I wrote to SQ and got the following reply today:

Perhaps worth trying again for those who received a different answer.

Gosh, this is really disappointing. FWIW, I have no SQ status either.

Best to call reservations directly.

I called reservations and no problem adding my birthday cake, they didn't even check the birthday.

Give the call a go.

Compensation for downgrade 2 x F Savers May 5 from R 380 to J 350 just lobbed into KF acc - 2 x R SIN-PVG still existing on same BRs

Would have much preferred the R exp for 2 of my sisters I am taking to SH / BJ for 8 days - they have never flown in F or J before and they think they are flying Y - but guess you have to roll with the punches hey.

Will be interested to hear your A350 review...

Yes I promise some accurate reporting on the 350 J product
this is cheeky of me to ask - but is the refunded difference at the new points cost, or the old one?
Not refunded difference per se - technically under SQ Award Rates I now have 2 x mixed class rdpts J/R so SQ entitled to price at R/F rates for entire booking and no requirement to refund any pts.

The sub 350 for 380 was well and truly trumpeted prior to KF rep calling me to advise of sub / downgrade so I was prepared. My first and only question was OK but what compensation do I receive? Agent got back to me 2 weeks later and offered once only offer 17K pts per pax which I accepted as soon as evident they were not going to budge. So pts credited are indeed 'compensation' rather than 'refund' but clearly SQ/KF have noted the pts as a 'refund'.

I subsequently rcvd email from KF in MEL apologising for the sub and offering me a one time upgrade certificate J to F on MEL-SIN route. I requested 2 x upgrades as I was paying for my sister and she would never be flying SQ J again so she could not use the upgrade - unfortunately upgrade can only be used by ticketed pax - bummer.

I also requested access to SKL F Lounge in MEL for 4 of us now all travelling in J MEL-SIN and that was referred to 'the relevant dept' who knocked the request back. No biggie with that - have already got that prob sorted with MEL staff who have OKed it - gotta love SKL F anytime access huh?
Dragging your sisters through the TPR eh CE. Poor ladies...
Yep 3 sisters who will share 4 x TPR access between them - and 6 F sectors to share between them.
