SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

<snip>
I see no problem with this process at all - it is transparent - crew know they are there - TBH I saw zero change in crews actions / demeanour - they understand what it is all about.

All open; that's different than what I was thinking. :)

Oh sorry - I misread - TBH I do not know - I am off again on June 19 so I will clarify for you then - if they are still around then are not going to be when you fly I promise I will grab you a couple.

First only? No sign of them when I flew SQ J about a month ago.

hey hey now cruiser - does my S$20 voucher count for naught? you can be 2nd in line blackcat!
D'Oh - forgot - yep I will get you one also dd.

Not really a dedicated benefit for F - they are randomly handed by crew to kids first - then F pax as little gifts - especially when beds made up - they are available to J pax but again random and of course if you ask nicely. Pax wearing totally over the top SQ branded home made PJs get to scoop them up by the barrow load - so I have heard! ;)

OK, a paunchy old guy in Etihad F PJs probably wouldn't get their attention then :)

Better half & I plowing through the the points balance and trying F for the first (and hopefully many more) time. As newbies we are ignorant of the nuances to max enjoyment - however we have gone into weight-loss mode to ensure clothing will still fit post flights! Amazing just how many food adverts there are these days.

1) Flying out of CDG in F what is the best (available) choice of lounge to use? Any suggestions warmly received!

2) Decided to 'enjoy' the Singapore experience as much as possible so scheduled close to a 9 hour period between flights in/out of Singapore. F back to Syd. What wouid be the best use of enjoying the "F" access for the lounge etc?
Thanks in advance!

:)

Nah easy - turn every opportunity into a win - as you are boarding and right in front of a couple of the SQ Angels stop and exclaim to them 'My God - they have all SUPERMODELS on board today'. After takeoff and changed into your dodgy EY PJs get into a convo with one of those gorgeous crew members you complimented earlier and just by chance mention 'I am regular F and J on EY - my first flt SQ today - I might shift all my flying to SQ' - then casually ask 'What are these SQ teddy bears I have heard about?' - London to a brick on you will have a couple in your mitts pronto.

Rooey - you are a long time member of AFF - you should fully understand the AFF mantra to 'Never let the truth get in the way of advancement of flying experience!'

1. Bloody ordinary dep lounge CDG

2. TPR of course - come and go as much as you want - have you been through SIN frequently? 9 hr quite a long time to spend in SIN - you could book ST hotel and sleep but coming from CDG you will prolly had plenty - make sure you have access to your togs and go spend hour or 2 at pool in T1 - they have bar there and drinks not ridiculously priced.

Go back to SKL F and send the better half off shopping whilst you sit and chat to Mahommed for couple hours - he's a legend. Then dinner / lunch in TPR - of corse at end 9hr stint you will be seriously half giddy with Champs.

Many will say go downtown - might be a suggestion - but you may not want to - whatever you decide have fun.

I'm only slightly helpful sorry, but have been researching something similar!

1) there's only one lounge at CDG, and I have been told the entire CDG experience is less than optimal- do you need to leave from there? Apparently ZHR is the bomb!

2) with that time frame, I would duck into TPR, get out into Singapore for a look around then TPR again before you reboard to Syd.

Ps am typing this in my EK F PJs- I love them!! I'm struggling to understand how SQs could be more comfortable, but looking forward to comparing!!

Cruiser ... I tried to find the thread you started on what to do at Changi (plenty), to help RAM fill in the 9 hrs (I think TPR will only entertain for so long, notwithstanding Mahommed and his generous pours). Can you re-post?

Tough times at SQ, reporting $138m loss for the fourth quarter of their reporting year. More details here. Seems tough times are here and ahead for legacy carriers in Asia, CX similarly struggling, and EK is also facing profitability challenges.

A significant contributing factor may well be that bloody cove and infinity draining the CH Millesime in TPR and Krug in R/F - those cowboys just don't know what constitutes reasonable consumption!

But on a serious note - SQ has been experiencing less than profitable times for some time - and it could get far worse. I am under no false illusions that my flying habits going forward are going to be severely impacted unless I can find an alternative method to generate a substantial number of FF pts at a cheap rate similar to what I have been able to last 8yrs or so - whilst I hope not I do firmly believe the good times are over. My existing bank will give me a year or 2 - but change is imminent.

AJ did state a few years back 'I think our biggest challenge in years ahead will be the Chinese carriers' - how true that was - they are here and now. As I need 8 to 10 return trips to China annually I may well have to shift from SQ R/F to J on Chinese carriers - a move I am already actively exploring. I have done MU J Oz-Sino return several years ago - indeed pre the big FF earn times and SQ predominance - and now with several other players more opps abound. Indeed mid July will see my first test probably on a Hainan stable flt - No R or F - no TPR - no Krug - but direct J flt from MEL with lay flat bed - we are in for interesting times.

Maybe OT - but I did mention SQ once or twice

Funny one CE! Mrscove goes ice water and I do quite a bit of that too.
Must admit that I go the Krug, the satay, the icy vodka with the caviar and the French red with the main course. We just don't have any of that at home so I always look forward to the flights. Suites flights are really good and I think Mrscove loves it too in her SQ blue pjs. She becomes Sleeping Beauty and now I am not that far behind now helped by the French red.
There were 3 spare Suites on our most recent flight to London so it may be a sales problem rather than just infinity and myself.
