SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

On the plus side CE you'll potentially save yourself 64-80 hours a year by flying non-stop instead of having to connect via SIN. And a 10 hour non-stop gives time to eat, watch a movie and a good sleep to arrive refreshed.

But on a serious note - SQ has been experiencing less than profitable times for some time - and it could get far worse. I am under no false illusions that my flying habits going forward are going to be severely impacted unless I can find an alternative method to generate a substantial number of FF pts at a cheap rate similar to what I have been able to last 8yrs or so - whilst I hope not I do firmly believe the good times are over. My existing bank will give me a year or 2 - but change is imminent.
Don't worry Cruiser. Economy is your saviour and is much cheaper saving you a motsa. You can use those savings to buy more Krug for the destination. You can probably squeeze in a few extra trips since money won't be an issue anymore.

And I know you'll love economy because you're a down to earth bloke who loves socialising. Those loners in premium suites/cabins/apartments are not your type. Enjoy....

All those things I can tolerate Johnny - it's the clowns I might stumble into in the *Gold lounge that scares me! ;)

You cannot believe I made it kam? Why so? You cannot believe I wear it with pride kam? Why so?

Let me give you guys a lttle tip - do you know how long it has been since I received less that spectacular service on ALL SQ flts I undertake? Like forever! And even more so since these T-shirts have become the top part of my standard BYO PJs.

View attachment 97735

The image is actually on rear of T-shirt - the pic I had taken with Ivy the auditor she asked would I turn T-shirt around to get image on front - she wanted to use it in some internal SQ social media platform they have. I can hear plenty saying if you are a SQ R / F or J pax you should not need to wear such attire to get stellar service - I agree wholeheartedly - BUT - their PJs are too hot to wear so I always BYO - adding this image elevates the service level I receive from stellar to unbelievably spectacular. We all run our own races.

The girl in the pic is not Ivy who appeared in picture - it is C****** who was a real live SQ Taiwanese crew member - before joining SQ she was within a bees knee of signing a contract as a full time singer / entertainer - apparently extremely talented with fabulous voice. But her dream was to travel the world which she automatically did in the SQ ranks. She regularly featured at SQ promotions / launches etc - I guess you can see why - she is now retired and living back in Taipei - married and with 2 beautiful little daughters - apparently happiest she has ever been (latest info supplied by some of her close friends still crewing SQ flts and who always come grab me when they see her image).

Back to the SQ Auditors - SQ have an onboard audit team of approx 30 members ongoing - they are selected from IFS level and invited to join Audit team for 2 to 3 year period - many do not take up the offer as it consists approx 50% in air auditing crew performance and about 50% on ground writing reports / meeting / briefing senior management. Audit positions are not permanent and upon expiration of term auditors melt back into IFS ranks - rarely do they get a second gig - and yes it does enhance their CVs going forward. In hundreds of SQ flts I never knew they existed and then in 2 successive ret flts ex PVG then PEK 24 days apart I encounter one on each flt - go figure.

CE, I could not believe it is more of surprise more than anything. I have never seen anyone in AFF or FT doing this. If you get extra services from SIA then go for it! I just found it hilarious though.

Anyway I don't fly SQ enough to have one of these shirts. My next SQ flights are in December and January .....

Maybe you should trade mark it and make a batch for a bunch of AFFers, and all meet up at TPR or something.

Well CE I appreciate times are tough and desperate measures are called for.

My first move whilst sitting in R drinking Krug/Dom/Pichon Le Lande will be to send my kids further down the back to save points.

Then perhaps "Plus 1"?? back to J,but that will be a difficult play if i value my life ;)

Next R flight is in 5 weeks to LHR ( with a week in Phi Phi island for some diving on the way over). So much time to contemplate your dilema CE.

Perhaps we can all do a deal with Cove to use his Westpac Krisflyer card as the engine to make points going forward and we pay hime to switch us to one of his 5 nominees ( Cove are you reading this? :))

Any rate, spent 1m points on R flights before the recent changes so lots of chances to put the thinking cap on ( maybe in a new suite).

Am trying a QF 35000 mile 5 stop world ticket later this year and will test QR F so lets see how that fairs.

In the meantime CE I await more brilliant SQ ideas to flow from that creative mind of yours!

Infinity it is Mrscove who is the soft touch. She has me buying a ticket each year on Qantas to stay Platinum so we go to New York from Perth and back.
My problem is my family use my account. Then there is my sister in law and my niece so you can see 5 redemption nominees could get crowded.
Fortunately my two sons have points and miles too but they don't have Social Security Numbers for US credit cards.
We need to figure out an easy way for CE to get a SSN as the Chase Sapphire card is working but the credit limit isn't large.

so whats the best way to get a bulkhead seat in business?

I thought being SQ gold might open up the bulkheads when doing an award booking online (at time of booking), but they were not available.
Is it at check-in or few days before departure?

just did my first redemption with KF points.

Status doesn't have anything to do with it, you could call them or just wait till seat selection opens up.

Indeed SQ have started to restrict J cabin bulkhead seat selection - currently restricted to Elite Gold status or above. TBH I do not know if agents can override if you call - I suspect they can but have not asked that specific Q.

Back to 380 on SIN-SYD route - call ctr agents TTPIT have not been advised which flts will be involved - I have been promised notification as soon as they are advised - I will post if info comes to hand. Word may well get out before staff officially notified but who would know.

Incorrect, sorry: having just done my first booking as PPS, I can report that it appears that access to the bulkhead rows does now indeed seem to be restricted to PPS+. This is apparently quite a recent change: previously, there was no such restriction.

Quick question regarding upgrades. If the below fare is booked (note premium economy for one leg, but economy on the A350 leg due to the class not existing on A350) is it still upgradeable, and at what upgrade rate. I.e. premium economy upgrade rate, economy or a mixture of both.

Might be a long shot question, but thanks in advance for any insight.

Must be something new in the past couple of months then? Strange that they would do that but that's life hey.

Hoping my Award booking bulkheads stick. BNE-SIN-MAN late November. 11D and G on both flights. No status with SQ (flights booked with points transferred to KF from VFF).

We are talking SQ here - not QF - once you have confirmed seat selection it will 100% stick regardless of status.

So best to be the first one 48hrs prior to departure to have the best chance of getting bulkhead seats I guess?
