SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

TPR is available to all SQ F & R pax

The T&Cs seem to state that access is granted if you are leaving or arriving Changi in Suites. That may have changed but the number of people in (and size of) the separate 1st class lounge you pass through is many times the capacity of TPR.

It is also listed separately to the 1st lounge details on their site:

SilverKris Lounges around the world

To gain access you need to have the personalised invitation as a couple in the 1st lounge tried to follow us in on (one of our return visits through the day) and were politely but firmly told it was by invitation only. When they asked why didn't the people in front shoiw an invitation they were told equally politely that we had arrived some hours earlier and were 'enjoying' all that Singapore had to offer.

They did not get admitted.

I think you're saying you would have more time in TPR by taking the night flight on the 777....

Another consideration is there has been a lot of discussion about lack of award availability of Suites lately due to the rollout of the new A380 Suites, initially (supposedly) slotted for the SIN-SYD route. So depending on when you are flying (I assume next Nov, since you are booking your return in 10 more days, to wait for the 355 day release of seats?), are you wanting to take a gamble on snagging a flight with the new Suites? There is also talk about certain flights (A380 SYD-SIN) not showing avail for Saver awards in Suites, suspected to be due to the new Suites rollout as well which aren't updated on seating charts etc.

As for TPR... We had about 4 or 5 hours in the TPR a coupe of months back. It was ALMOST too long for me. I was getting bored (and drunk). An hour or less and I'd feel like I didn't have enough time. So it comes down to what your lounge need/likes are.

We have flights next July in a mix of 380 and 777 (but all F/R), and to be honest, we are looking forward to the 777 new 4 seat cabin. The A380 flights meet our timing for the SYD-SIN legs, and we are hoping MAYBE we might just happen to get a new suites config, but not really banking on that.

I would love to try the new suites, but it hasn't been something I have been considering when choosing flights.

I am on an 8.00am flight ex SIN at the beginning of my trip, so will get to have breakfast in TPR after overnighting in SIN, I guess I could also have dinner there on arrival.

Well booked a trip for my wife and I next year SYD - ZRH and CDG - SYD all in suites... Last SQ flight was F on 777 so looking forward to return trip on the A380..

It felt good burning 800k VA points to get this on SQ :)

Did a similar trip this year. Suites are very nice :)

Had previously posted with a question about early check in for SQ 232 Sydney to Singapore with the excuse that it was nicer to work in First Class lounge instead of my room at the Mercure Sydney Airport. Firstly a big tick for the Mercure. Thought it was a great airport hotel with very comfortable rooms. Far better rooms than most Mercure's I have stayed in. Would have been more than happy to work in the room but early entry in to the First Class won! Whilst there is a shuttle every 30 minutes or so ($7 each) as there were two of us caught a taxi for the trip which is only about 1km. There are taxis outside the hotel who are happy to do the short trip which is around $12. Arrived at the terminal around 8am and check in completed for SQ 212 but staff still at counters and they checked us in.

Long walk to the lounge and arrived about 8.15 as passengers leaving for SQ 212. A very helpful staff member explained the lounge and said he would tidy up some seats for us looking out at the airport as those were popular seats and they were expecting a busy lounge for SQ 232 as Suites was full and also about 16 Solitaire members on the flight. Ordered Eggs Benedict with smoke salmon. Was great. He opened a Veuve Cliquot for us and great champagne breakfast! Did end up doing some work whist enjoying many more glasses of the VC.

There were already 3 others in the lounge who were on SQ 232 when we arrived who were great fun. A father and two adult sons. The father is known as the captain and is well known to the staff and crew.

Left the lounge around 11.30 and another helpful staff member took our boarding passes, had a look at our passports and then walked with us to the door of the plane where she then introduced us to the crew. What an experience!

Will post later about the flight which again exceeded expectations.

Thanks for your comments on the Mercure Sydney Airport which we are about to invest in. This hotel has been acquired and will be syndicated to sophisticated investors shortly. It is probably going to be rushed as it will get renovated/improved.
We still think about flying to Sydney from Perth just to extend the Suites experience but the business class flight out of Perth is only 5 hours so we do that instead and stop at the Crowne Plaza at Changi for a night.

Just wanted to confirm a rumour. Very sadly SQ has decided to replace Krug NV on it's F flights.

However there is some good news, It has found an adequate replacement.

So cheers everyone here, especially Cruser Elite, as we had our first Suites flight this week, SQ222 Syd-Sin, to be greeted by this,

Etihad, watch out with your petty cost cutting, SQ just raised the bar (so to speak...)

At 5.09 am this morning I received a picture by text from a traveller. Yes he was being served 2004 Krug on SQ. I guess he runs on Melbourne time.
My next go is December 27th so that is quite a wait.

And mine 5 days later. I would be obliged if you could leave a bit for me. :D

My previous comparo between the DP 06 and Krug NV had the DP come out on top. IMHO.

Apparently Krug being served in the PR now? Someone messaged me but I don't know if they are having me on since they know I'm only flying F from SYD-SIN and J from SIN-SYD so no PR time on this trip.
