SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Question for the SQ gurus.
I'm flying in F NRT-SIN on 15/4 and suites SIN-SYD on 17/4.
When it comes to meal selection, when does the inflight menu made available for viewing? Reason I ask is I want to decide between BTC and inflight menu.

My experience has been that the in flight menu is only available a few weeks before the flight at best (I think the menus are monthly but not 100% on that). So maybe check in late March or early April/

Curious as to any recent experience with how much difficulty I can expect to experience with the call centre for the following:

Have a return saver (booked pre-changes) J award PER-SIN later in the year (stupidly booked as a return and not 2x one-ways like I normally do in a lapse of judgement, as we didn't expect to have any changes).
We are thinking of adding a little trip to HK during our stay and the KF points for SIN-PER and HK - PER (with overnight lay-over in SIN) the same.

Will call centre easily be able to change return flight from SIN-PER to HK-PER, or can I expect a lot of hair-pulling??

As an aside, for those who have experienced it, what would you advise trying first over A350 J and new/latest A380 J (I've only flown suites / F and the "old" A380 J, so they're all new to me).

Cheers

general consensus is to avoid the A350 where possible.

Thanks for your reply. Ended up calling today and whilst there was a bit of hair pulling, wasn't too bad and had a helpful agent who managed to get everything changed for us.

Flying the hopefully new A380 J SIN-HKG (if current schedule doesn't change) and the A350 HKG-SIN (only one with 3xJ savers for a HKG-PER single itinerary). Another plus is that we were originally on the regional J back to Perth, but changed flights with the new itinerary and have a 772 with 1-2-1 both ways now.

Doing some planning for 2019 trip....hoping someone knows if this route is possible?

Mel-sin-nrt-jfk with a stopover in nrt, flying ANA nrt-jfk. ANA seem to have good availability in F a long way out.. hoping to do this route (or the reverse from JFK) next year. Would this qualify as an Australian to North america (east coast) award at *A rates - 154k of miles each. The airmiles is actually less flying this route vs the sq route mel-sin-nrt-jfk by a few hundred miles... And doesn't seem to fall foul of backtracking as SQ flies to lax from nrt?

I know the sin-nrt-lax route is SQ operated, but keen to keep transits at a minimum as time is a big factor in this trip... One week in NYC, one week in Tokyo.

Would be tremendous value if it can be a valid routing with a stopover in nrt.

Stop over on a *A award changes the number of miles required for the journey

See second point under general notes
So miles would be SWpac to nrt asia2 105k
NRT asai2 to nrt America 125 k
Total is 230k. A lot more miles unless you loose the stop over inNRT

redemption nominee question
first time tinkering with the KF members section,

just reading the bit, it says maximum of 6 nominees,
and after before 6 months you cannot remove
after 6 months you get charged a fee.

does any one know how much this fee is,
is there are a reason for this fee, seems unfair
how do people manage all their nominees

I just changed two nominees so I could comp our friends to London. The change was 3000 Kris Miles per person or $30 US. Our friends were getting dust trying to use their AA Miles in business or First Class.

That seems like extortion to me...
Or is it a case of you shouldnt need more than 5 family members or friends that you are buying tickets for?

So once theyre on your listm theyre on there for ever unless you pay to remove?

Over a decade I have paid for 3 changes on our two accounts. I think it is very reasonable as redemptions to unrelated folks is ok. My son can fly his girlfriend and we can fly friends.

I reckon "extortion" is perhaps a tad strong for USD30.

They already have a more flexible approach than many airlines in that you don't have to be related to the person you're redeeming for.

In your introduction you said "I feel like ive read every thread on this forum, so Im a paper expert".

I think you might need to read in a little more depth.

Extortion was a bit over. Yes im still learning.

40 aud to remove names i still think is too high

You can always vote with their feet and go elsewhere, but IME the grass is always the same colour, it just has different shades.
From what i can see. Kris has its strengths too.
Im still learning the ins and outs
Obviously one small con wont change my mind.

I am persistent

It probably helps to minimise those that may seek to sell reward flights like with Velocity and QFF.

Hi Lemon_Party

I take it from your post that there are two you.
Were you able to choose 1A/2A or 1F/2F on the new suites?
