SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

For SQ 336 we have been assigned seats 18D and 18F in J in the A380-800. I assume this is a bulkhead row and is close to galley but not too close to the toilet. So am in two minds and out this pair. Stay or go? Seems to be positives of great legroom, negatives close to galley and possibly getting moved for bassinets. Any words of wisdom? Seems like will have a big wall in front, may not suit me as I am a bit of a sticky beak and like a look around. Also assume this is prime realestate for bassinets.

For SQ 335 A380-800 in J we have been assigned what I would think are the worst seats in this cabin. 96F and 96D.
Reminds me of the only bad Singapore flight we every had, was in Y seats 82H and K, absolute nightmare with the toilet, smell, light, noise, would rather not repeat. Also looks to be earmarked for bassinets so being moved also likely.

ive just had my first look at seat plans, based on the above comment,
it seems that there are two types of designs on the a380

1 has first class suites on glower level, but one on the upper?

is there any difference in terms of experience?
going upstairs seems very cool!

Final flight also next to the dunny. Is an A350 flight SQ207 SIN-MEL in J seats given 18F and 18D. This flight looks almost full and we will have to take 22D 22F to sit together otherwise separate window seats.

We have certainly enjoyed the upstairs cabin in the past, and are there not 4 cabin configurations, not 2?

This and all your other seating questions - very much depends on the aircraft configuration. There are lots of them. 96DF could be considered prime seats by many on the all upper deck J configuration. A single row cabin with lots of foot room (no cubby holes). 96A and K are arguably the best on the plane.

Bulkhead seats are prime seats because of the extra foot room.

Thanks for your thoughts and advice, that is the only way I can make a decision, especially as the configurations we are flying are all so different. Have you yourself flown in row 96? If so were you at all bothered by the toilet? My wife and I fly regularly but nowhere near as frequent as most AFF members, and we fly J so rarely I have no frame of reference. My appologies on of my failings is I am needy for information, and tend to be overly analytical. And I agree that the bulkhead seats are prime, but are there any downsides, I have never flown in a bulkhead seat.

I assume the picture 96DF shows the leg room, without the small cubby for legs. Does that mean it is also able to be made up as a double bed? 3B3161D1-804E-4300-9CB0-3E34E2B4941A.png

Yes - those are the seats. Unfortunately the middle armrest is immovable so you won't get a double bed. I've had friends who have taken that seat and said it was just like first class - a single row, extremely private. No issues with feet in the cubby hole. And with the galley behind, the crew pass fairly frequently so the service was always quick. They felt all these benefits outweighed the usual disadvantages of proximity to the galley or WCs.

In general, avoiding proximity to the galley/WCs is a good idea however (except in the case of bulkheads or row 96). So if you don't have a bulkhead, somewhere in the middle of a cabin is probably a good idea. On the 777 this should mean a forward cabin, as far away from the engines as possible, as the noise and vibration increases significantly the closer to the engines you are (that is, if there are two cabins on the 777, you want to be in the middle of the forward cabin, not the cabin around the wing/engines). The A380 doesn't have the same issue of engine noise, so anywhere is fine.

On some upcoming flights I can select the middle pair in either row 2, or row 3 (old 380 suites) - is one better than the other for a couple?

So row 12 in the small forward cabin just behind a small first class section would be a good selection in this case. Great advice, many thanks. The picture shown seems to give myself a slightly better idea of location than the expert flyer site, due to my lack of knowledge.

I don’t know. In this situation i’d probably be avoiding that row 12 with the proximity to the galley. IIRC that galley by the door is busy, and no real off-set in terms of a better seat (no cubby).

Row 16 or so would be my preference here. But I haven’t been on that particular aircraft with the new F.

Pretty sure row 16 was taken on expert flyer last night, and i have used up my quota of searches for today. Will have to check tomorrow. Ta.

If you have already purchased your tickets you just go into manage my booking on the singapore airlines site and select from the seat maps there.

Well that gets a little complicated. One is a points reward on a SQ flight number but claimed through VA. (don't shoot me) The other is a fully paid fare through VA on a VA flight number. (paid by my business) So not quite so easy.

In my opinion the forward J cabin (11-14) by beats the rest of the J cabin in the 773-ER. It is very quiet and private. My pick is 11A or K if you can get them. They go quickly.

might as well ask now, since Ill be asking in 6 months
SQ 218 Airbus A380-800

is my relatives flight in F
elderly couple,
all seats avaiaible excet the front middle two with the bassinet

obviously, side by side is better for them which is the seat behind which is the one in front of the galley

stick with this one
or split them up to the side but away from galley?
