SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

(Please feel free to direct me to a wiki or another post that covers this.)

My father is flying VIE-DUS-SIN-SYD (OS-SQ-SQ) in J on a redemption I made with my Krisflyer miles.

SIN layover is 19hr, but daytime, so he'd like to clear immigration and explore the city. Can he still get bags checked-through from VIE all the way to SYD?

Yes bags will be checked through as the default option.

Also Customs and Immigration is easy and slick in SIN, plus the airport train to the city efficient and cheap.

You can even sign up for one of the free tours. I haven't used it but there is a swimming pool at the airport. Last week I found out that there are also sleeping areas so no need to check into the transit hotel if you don't want to.
19 hours.... so much to do, so little time.

For those playing at home Charles Heidsieck is currently available in the Silverkris J lounge.

I would expect this to also be served on board SQ215 shortly.
J Cabin Champs invariably on offer in SKL SIN J Lounges unless supply shortage - Moet and Piper were briefly on offer a few months back due to shortage - thank god that was brief - I love CH and most times will wander out of TPR/F just to sample a glass.

I will be very disappointed in you S.SFC if you do not make a serious assault once boarded tonight.

I'm in the process of booking 2 Business Advantage seats for family. I want to add a Singapore stopover, can click and select the second flight a few days later but the NEXT button is greyed out and I can't proceed. I'm logged in and have enough miles. Do I have to call to book? Or should I book the straight through and then add the stopover by calling ... which I have to do to add an infant.

Thanks Cruiser. I gained the impression, somewhere -- possibly in my own head! -- that it was office hours and you got one of the other call centres if you called out of hours.

Can I just say (again) how wonderful this forum is, with help and sharing. In this case I'm getting family home, in comfort, at short notice, using many points but not very many pounds, which would not have been possible before I found AFF.

I tried my best but the Singapore Girls reman the undefeated champions, I conceded defeat after about half a bottle and moved on the the Bordeaux with my tail between my legs.

just redeemed:

5x on saver J on SQ232 for July '19. surprised I found 5x at saver on the same flight!
+
5x saver J from SIN->TPE->YYZ however split, 2A + 2A&1C over 2 days (EVA Air)

bit funny as the call centre said I couldn't have a stop over with partner airlines.
I said I don't want a stopover, I just want separate tickets and she said that was a stop over, went on in circles for 5min.

in the end I said what if I book SYD to SIN for 5x. then HUACA and book SIN to YYZ with a 2 day gap in dates. She said that was possible!
So I said lets do that, she said okay! :D

I feel I could've found a cheaper way to get there (less points used) but this way with a then 2.5yo we can break up the journey in SIN and TPE.
will ease the pain we inflict on the other pax in J *fingers crossed*

5 savers? Nice work!!

I wasn’t aware about the no stop overs on partner airlines...

I’m wanting to book ATH > IST > SIN > MEL with a 2 night stopover in IST in a couple of weeks when my dates are released.
ATH > IST is on TK, the rest is SQ. Am I going to be disappointed??

That's what they told me. It's my first experience booking partner airline as well, perhaps someone more knowledgeable can advise

You can book till IST as a separate ticket. Then leave a 2-3day gap and then book the rest. Will be separate bookings

You can get one free stopover on a Star Alliance return award, and up to three more at USD100 each. But my understanding is that you can't get any, even paid, on a one-way.

From the chart for Star Alliance awards:

The mileage required for one-way Star Alliance awards that includes at least one stopover will be calculated based on each flight sector in the itinerary, unless otherwise specified in our Terms and Conditions.

***
Then from the T&Cs:

2. Additional conditions for Star Alliance Awards

f. One complimentary en route stopover is permitted for round-trip awards, unless otherwise stated below. Up to three additional stopovers are also permitted at USD100 each, regardless of the class of service.

It also says:

i. Complimentary stopovers are not permitted for one-way awards.

***

So I asked (unsuccessfully) whether that meant that non-complimentary stopovers are permitted, but there really needs to be something explicitly allowing it in order to contradict what it says in the chart.

Thanks for the fast replies! I’ve got a couple of weeks to go, will consider our options- booking as a return is not one of them unfortunately as it’s mixed class.

EDIT: looks like separate tix is a solid option, requiring fewer points! 25k + 78k vs 105k booked through (in J) And I can book the day each leg is released!

Many thanks, I think this solution is a winner! (Let me know if I’ve missed something super obvious please!)

We have been assigned seats 12F and 12D in J for flight SQ228 MEL-SIN on a B777-300ER. We have no children and would like to avoid them if at all possible, no offence, just too old for children and too young for grandchildren sort of age. Is this the mini cabin I hear about? Is it nice an private, or claustrophobic? So stay or go? TIA
