SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

F is still F. J is still J. If you are happy with J go J. But F is a marked step up in all aspects (food maybe not so much). The bed is much better in F, day or night flight.

whats everyones opinion of first class on a 777?
am looking at booking a F flight return to singapore at last minute, but all the fliughts seem to be a 777
is it worth it, or is J the smarter option?

I've got no experience with suites or F or any other seat on SQ, but what I can say is when booking our first SQ ride last week I didn't hesitate in booking suites all the way CDG-SIN-SYD. Give me a couple of weeks and I'll tell you if it was worth* it.

* hope so as we've built a sizeable stash of points to burn on these suite things.

We flew to Europe in J last year (bulk head seat J, so heaps of space) and came home in F on 777 (had booked suites, but there was a plane change months out) First was still significantly better- food, service, sleep (& pyjamas!), we laugh about it ‘ruining J’ for us. We haven’t flown suites yet, but that’s booked for July.

What about outbound in J, then inbound in F? That’s how I ‘save’ points....!

Just flew J to Europe and unhappy with the seats. The 359 doesn't have F, otherwise I would be upgrading. Terrible seats

Each to their own of course but if I had the points* then it’s a no-brainer - F over J every day of the week. I guess you need to do multiple flts in both to truly grasp the diff - but more importantly MEL / SYD-SIN or vv o/n flt in F total waste unless you can sleep on arr - J if you are going to sleep.

As for 777 F - IMHO they are all fine - even the retro fitted 773 - SQ’s new F whilst not Suites is still a fab product - first thing you do when seated is request trade of those leather rocks masquerading as cushions and request one of the DJ type chequered cushions from J - or crew will give you a pillow instead - then you are good to go.

Bottom line - F for daytime flt unless totally out of your reach pts wise - J for sleeper service.

*My mission in life is to never be short of KF pts.

Hi everyone,

I waitlisted for SIN-ZRH in suites for 2pax on 29 March for a mid-April departure.
The availability to waitlist for a saver redemption only came up on the 29th March (I’d been checking daily for months).
Got confirmation on 10th April.
New suites here I come! (Fingers crossed)

Here’s hoping I can stay awake for enough of the flight to enjoy the Dom, Krug and fabulous SQ service.

Interestingly I needed to fly BNE-SIN.
On the KF website there was availability, however the agent said it wasn’t available to be booked together with the SIN-ZRH sector. Had to book it as a separate sector.
Small price to pay I guess.

Great news.

I have had the linked flights issue of late as well. What's even more strange, book it say on a Tuesday I could book all the way through AU to EU but on a Friday it was not an option even though the seperate sectors are on offer.

Married segments. Singapore controls inventory based on origin and destination. They may have a capacity control over the end-to-end, even though individual sectors are available. This can, of course, change on a daily basis.

Has anybody else noticed that no award space is being released from 30 Mar 2020 onwards. Usually they are pretty exactly with releasing it 355 days in advance but they are a few days behind this now.

I have noticed this as well. Similar anyway. I have been monitoring awards to/from the US. All of a sudden nothing after 28 March. Could still see to/from Aus up to 29th though.

Yes potm I've noticed the same as well, and was really wondering what was the cause of this (is it really the influx from MR that's causing it?), and I've gotten really worried.
I like to try out dummy searches to ensure the 355 day release is consistent, but suddenly there's no availability, even at Advantage level!
What route have you been searching?

Yes I've seen this too, my searches have also been awards to the US, haven't done searches from the US yet.
I wonder what's going on in the background...

It’s every route. Even a Y seat from sin to kil is not available. I haven’t seen any discussion about it on blogs or anywhere. Hopefully things get back to normal next week.

Ah, I see. Probably some backend changes happening to award booking systems then, as it's not a route specific problem. That's great to hear, but we'll have to all wait in anticipation to see where this all leads.

It is probably linked to system changes ahead of the Star Alliance devaluation happening tomorrow rather than any influx of AUS Amex MR points.

I flew the old Suites on the morning flight between LHR and SIN, and the overnight flight between SIN and MEL on the 773 F seats. Whilst not as private and spacious as the Suites, the 773 F product is still very good (Comfy non angled beds, great food and champagne, amazing service ) It is still a step up from J class. And let's face it, both F and J are heaps better than Y ! (I don't think i can ever fly Y on a longhaul flight again, after experiencing both J and F in various airlines)

Did some further searches today and there is the same issue with revenue bookings as well - nothing after 28/29 March 2020.

Anyone have any idea what is going on yet?

Seems ok searching via the app... Searched a few legs this morning:

Mel-sin 4/3 can see 2xJ Savers on every flight.
Mel-sin-zrh 4/3 2xJ savers on every flight

Also, found a neat little way of holding an award booking, but must have miles in account. Take it all the way through to payment screen but don't check out. That gives you the ticketing time limit not a few days to complete the transaction eight he flights held. Won't work unless you have miles, but for me watching flights open up to return before end of school holidays, it gives a nice insurance option if I don't get exactly what I want - knowing I've got flights reserved a day earlier.

Can you explain this? I'm not following
