SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Just got off a 380 (J) and currently waiting to board a 350 also in J.
The service was great but the bird seems a bit tired and I did discover it is still the old 12 suite configuration. Interestingly the crew gave us a deck of playing cards each together with a list of their names and asked I leave good feedback, which I certainly will.

I have some Kris Miles expiring inside 6 months so I was looking at a Suites ride to London to use them up. We can go business class to Singapore out of Perth then Suites to London with a night at Crowne Plaza to break the journey.

Miles expiring - looks like you have not done enough flying/giving away flights - or just earning too much...

Do they warn you when miles are to expire or do you need to check and keep an eye on it?

No way to fly 1st out of Perth?

Not with SQ, no.
AFAIK, the only F products ex-PER are EK F (on EX421 PER-DXB) and QR F (on QR901 PER-DOH).
All other airlines (QF, SQ, CX, MH, etc) ex-PER top out at J. Maybe the market for F ex-PER isn't as strong as MEL/SYD? Though I can see that a lot of mining magnates could be attracted to an F product?

I looked at Suites ex MEL and SYD and availability was tight so I am ok with J to Singapore from Perth. I must have run up many Kris Miles about 2.5 years ago and we do have quite a redemption group chewing them up.

So just as a general rule, if im looking specifically for new suites from Melbourne. the first stop is typically ySingapore.
At present is it mostly the 777s during low demand and a380 (New/old) during high demand?

I read an article that the new suites will be rolled completely by 2020 which seems a bit ambitious

Afaik the New Suites are only available ex SYD & Not MEL, & other Long Haul routes.
If calling Singapore directly, be sure to confirm that it is a 6 seat cabin, (New Suites)
& not 12 seats (the Old Suites).

After noticing my mistake, I was willing to pay $40 to change my RT flight to BKK-SIN-SYD but I could only fly Standard award on the New Suites & as Saver awards had no availability at the time

Apropos of a solo bkg a bassinet seat, I was just moved from 2C to 3 C.
Looks like all the WL cleared o/night as now the only empty seat is next to me in 3 D.
Be interesting to see if I get a request to move for a couple next week.

Yurk, I could be sharing a double bed with a stranger. OMG. :( Now, I regret moving from my window.

Update: Just called SQ. They had moved me from a bassinet seat although not yet for a bubba booking. So, in theory there are still 3 empty seats.

There is a divider so you won't be sharing a double bed with anyone (unless you want to ;) )

I would doubt you get a request to move by SQ prior to boarding, the FA on board may ask you if you would be wiling to move if a couple request the center pair but you of course are free to decline the request (I wouldn't but I can't hold it against anyone that does).

ive been having a snoop around and cant find any new suites from MEL to SIN via EUROPE
however I know a few people on here that have recently travelled on new suites from melb,

I dont know what the rules or patterns are

Seeing as there is currently nowhere to move to, it could get awkward. I don't wish to sleep that close to a stranger although I know there is a 'barrier'.
Called them earlier, they say that I wasn't supposed to be give a bassinet seat, but those 2 are still vacant but not available, so hopefully it will work out OK. I will be watching everyday.

I think SQ will be harder to get with the world now awash w' ex AMEX points.

The privacy screen in between the middle pairs are full height. You won't see the other person.

The screen pulls down from the support above, you can see the latch in this picture.

Indeed I have had request at check-in, at Lounge and at boarding if I was prepared to move from 3C to a single Suite to allow a couple to sit together - not only for adult couples but also in a couple of instances it was to let a mum and child to sit together.

Common courtesy dictates I adhere to these genuine requests. Interesting point is sometimes I have been thanked and thanked non stop for total flt duration in giving up my seat - in other instances ZERO acknowledgement - clearly you don't really need to possess any class to fly First Class.

Can you please point out those who have enjoyed new Suites ex MEL because to best my knowledge new 380 has NEVER dep MEL as yet.

I guess that works both ways :)

And, the passenger may not even know who moved to accommodate them.
