SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

You called SQ for a chaser, what was their advice on this?

Not unusual. Award seats are seats the airline doesn't believe it will sell (or can sell). Cathay does this frequently, releasing anywhere up to 5 F on the day before departure for TPAC.
SA said they would send a msg to the relevant department and you will hear by email if they have an update.

Have not heard back yet. Which i assume means no change

Not sure what you mean by 'missing out' in your original post? The waitlists will sit there. The duplicate booking is the one I have pointed out concerns with. Digging a bit more some airlines have a policy of keeping the last booking made in the event of a duplicate... so if you made the 2 x J fisrt, then the confirmed F, they could cancel 1 x J without notification.

I should have used a different word,
I dont want to be penalised or lose out, obviously Ill need to cancel the confiremd 1x F PAX before its too late, which I need to confirm when the latest date is with minimal penalty

yes, I appreciate your concern, I will need to double check which went first :)

edit; just checked the 1x F PAX was booked first, what would you do? the flight is 28 days away, should I just cancel all the confirmed and waitlists just in case?

Just called Sing Air again, Asked about chasijng up a flight, got told as of at this point there is no update ,

I also asked what the process of chasing is, and they said if a full paying ticket or redemption ticket is cancelled, then it will become avaiaible and you will get an email saying its become available, and that doing a chaser doesnt change anything or make it go faster or make you skip the queue

does this sound right?

edit: just checked $75 USD cancellation fee for my F flight, OUCHY!

USD75 is a bit of a bargain! (Other prgorams charge up to USD200 to cancel :()

Sending a chaser isn't going to allow you to skip any waitlist queue, but if you are near the top of the waitlist yield management may decide they're going to convert a paid seat to an award seat and give it to you.

It's basically just asking someone to have a look at loadings on the flight and see if they are willing to release seats earlier than they otherwise would,

But if there is someone higher on the waitlist than you, you might not be able to skip them just because you called (in fact they might get the seat!)

thanks for your helpful reply
yeah, I wasnt expecting special treatment or skipping the queue,

was hoping that if one was aviaialbe and if it hadnt been released or was stuck in limbo, that it could be released

they also did say I could cancel as late as a few hours before the flight, so I might as well wait until last minute

We really liked our flights. I’ve already booked a couple of SIN suites return weekenders and will book a couple of JFK suite specials in the next week or so.

May struggle with the JFK flights unless you’re prepared to go the full rate for at least 1 seat.

Pretty popular route for the Americans given only SQ A380 and their insanely generous points game over there.

Next time you may want to contemplate an add on to places like HKG where the redemption cost is the same as only to SIN

I just did F CBR-SIN-FRA-JFK as a reward flt in old suites. I needed to do lots of WL and be very flexible. It’s a very tiring route as there’s a long transit in SIN. Look fwd to hearing of yr success, (if redemption bkg).

GMOH we just overnight in Singapore Changi Crowne Plaza to make a split of the longhauls. That helps us a lot.

Might be common knowledge for most but for me its not so ill post

a booking I made that Im going to cancel soon had 500 points as a opening promo part of it, they told me this wont be refunded
so if you are going to cancel a booking funded with bonus/complimentary points, it may not be refunded
Points were given about a year ago

Yes @cove, have done that previously. It’s just awkward when the next flight leaves at 11 pm it really needs two nights at a hotel.

This time, six hours in the transit hotel worked quite nicely along with the historic tour, and time in the TPR.

hello folks, just a simple question, as im new to making any reward bookings

if I were to travel from Melb to Taiwan using Kris points (happy to use Qantas points as well) but prefer kris due to expiry

I want to travel J or F, but reward bookings are just referrring me to Y because I assume the SING to TAIWAN flight is economy only,

what would be the best way to do this?

would my best chance be

Melbourne to Changi in J, and then Changi to Taiwan in Y, and back to melb, booking 4 separate flights individually?

SQ does fly to TPE in J. You can search MEL to TPE in J and if there is availability then it will appear.

MEL to SIN will also have F seats. You could fly F on that route and J to TPE. Search each leg separately but to make the mixed class booking you’ll have to call up.

You can also do it for J and Y seats if there is no J availability on a segment. The price will be the cost for the highest class on mixed class bookings.

you are right! its coming up for me now, thanks

do you pay more in points if I call up and say i want MELB to SINGAPORE in F, and J to Taiwan?

I assume that if you book 2 legs separately and the first one is delayed then you are pretty stuffed

No extra. There’s usually a booking fee for phone bookings but it doesn’t apply if you can’t do the booking online. That is the case for mixed class bookings.

No reason to book as separate bookings, it will cost a lot more points.

I most cases you'll just pay the applicable F fare (in points) for the entire itinerary, even though one (or more) sectors might be in a lower cabin. This works out cheaper than pricing the MEL-SIN in F and then adding SIN-TPE in J.

youre right again!
thanks,

ive just discovered
(all in J)
Melb to Sin is
62k
SIn to Taiwan is
30k

Mel to Taiwan is
65k

so its virtually free to go to taiwan, only 3k,

final question, am Iable to book a single trip from Mel to Taiwan but stay in singapore for a few days?
