SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Alcohol is cheap in China even at clubs and bars. Probably about one half to one third the price we would pay here in Australia.
Jeez what dodgy clubs you frequent in China MEL? Centro on Beijing - G & T RMB80 - AUD16 - Bar Rouge in PVG - G & T RMB70 - AUD14 / Luna in Xin Tian Di PVG - G & T RMB70 - AUD14 - Judys / Manhattan in Jing'an G & T RMB50 - AUD10 - need I go on? Anything that remotely resembles Western oriented bar in China spirits / wine are as expensive as Australia if not more expensive.

yes, but drinks are twice the size of Australia.

the long bar (Waldorf) IIRC a top shelf martini was around 110rmb. glamour bar was cheaper again. but double the size of somewhere like cookie in Melbourne, where martinis are now somewhere around $25 each.

there are a whole range of bars and clubs far cheaper than bar rouge... places where locals and expats hang out but are not designated 'tourist' venues. a drink would be in the 35-50RMB range (50 for say a mixed drink with cognac).

Has anyone done the IAH-DME-SIN route? How was the flight/catering? Lounge in DME non existant?

Thats the only route available during the xmas week. Have waitlisted JFK/FRA/SIN but the waitlist on those probably will not clear. Have been told its on the recently refurbed 77s?

If arriving in T PR at brekky time. You can still ask for the lobster. Have done before. Takes about 20 mins but they were happy to do

For the peasants here who have never been allowed into the TPR, if you stuff your face with food in the TPR, how do you still manage to eat all the nice F food onboard? ?

It is indeed a delicate balancing act kpc - one must learn self control and how to pace oneself - these are not skills that come naturally to most people - as infinity has indicated practice practice practice - it can take years to hone ones skills to fully enjoy and appreciate the total TPR experience.

Surprisingly easy! The food is not that exciting in the TPR... the menu is nothing on QF's F lounges, and the buffet items seem fairly lifeless (although I suspect that's just because the lounge has always been empty when I'm there... not much turn-over).

It's a harder job to stay hungry at a more dynamic F lounge like say LH's.

travelled in J doing this route (and onto SYD). i could dig out the menu if really interested. lounges in both IAH and DME poor - although there was a good looking pastisserie on the way to the lounge in DME - right near the newsagent selling USD20 magnets.

have been doing a little reading on the SQ forum on FT but thought that IAH was one of the last routes to be refurb'd?

TBH I am forced to agree with MEL here - I love the breakfast in TPR but post that I think the food offerings leave a fair bit to be desired. The Wing in HKG has better food offerings IMHO - but I am allergic to crustaceans so the lure of lobster any time of the day no value to me. I think apart from lobster the a-la-carte menu in TPR disappointing - a number of times I have actually gone out to F or J sections to eat.

But TPR still a wonderful haven - one you just can never get too much of.

A haven it is but they really need lie flat lounge chairs for a qick kip if you need one
Thats not going to happen though - lounge was slated for makeover commencing August but last I heard that has been put back a bit - it will basically be a surface spruce up rather than significant remodel - well so my spies tell me.

diningdecadence... would like to hear your thoughts on this route.. In the coming year I have some trips to and from IAH that I need to do and can quite often find availability on SQ for this one but cant seem to find much info on how flyers feel about it.. TIA

For December it's showing 8 seater F. That's the new updated version right?

I love ordering the satay and dim sum in the TPR. The gentleman is a fan of the burger. The buffet is pretty terrible except for the little desserts.

380 is replacing 77WN (777-300ER with new F fit out) as of June 18 on 227 / 228. 77WN was on 227 / 228 since March - whether it returns to 227 / 228 post the 380 stint only time will tell - it may be shared around to other destinations.

YES std F on 777, 77W and 77WN all have 8 seats in F cabin and all the same seat layout diagram so impossible to differentiate by looking at seat map TBMK.
