SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

380 is replacing 77WN (777-300ER with new F fit out) as of June 18 on 227 / 228. 77WN was on 227 / 228 since March - whether it returns to 227 / 228 post the 380 stint only time will tell - it may be shared around to other destinations.

YES std F on 777, 77W and 77WN all have 8 seats in F cabin and all the same seat layout diagram so impossible to differentiate by looking at seat map TBMK.

But those 77Ws that have Y+ installed will drop to 4 F seats yeah?

Quick q's about SQ218 MEL-SIN in F from my partner - I understand the 'sleeper service' means you will be served either supper OR dinner either at the start of the flight OR the end so you can either meal at either end of the flight but not both.

If the flight is not full (Im expecting an almost empty F cabin) can you get both by asking nicely or are they strict on you only having 1 meal (regardless of when or what you order). Given the 'sleeper' mindset - are they proper meals or one-tray quick affairs?

I cannot help you smit - 218 I always take sleeping tablet as soon as seated and sleep all the way - I do not even look at the menu - 217 coming home same - I ask them please do not wake me under any circumstances.

I was planning to do the same but its my partners first tiem flying F and he insists on 'experiencing everything'. Maybe Ill sleep and he can just have my meal too!

Have you looked at seat map? How many other pax showing? It seriously won't be a prob for any F pax to consume any food that is not reqd for other pax - just ask away and I am 99% sure crew will oblige - any food leftover is thrown out anyway.

1A and 2A are selected/unavailable (2A is bassinet so possibly blocked?), we're in 2CD, all other seats free, so expecting a fairly empty cabin!

2A does show as bassinet seat but indeed 1A is bassinet seat in all 777s - a bulkhead is required to mount bassinet - cannot be mounted on rear of seat in front of you - it is a bit misleading. 2C/2D are the prime seats for couples.

Yes ex MEL if cabin looks sparse it may well be - just enjoy - don't be afraid to ask crew for whatever your little heart desires - they will oblige if humanly possible.

Thanks - the last time I flew SQ218 (in J) F was completely empty.

Im going to be very low maintenance - glass of champs and a comfy bed is all I need. Unfortunately Ill be travelling with a very excited puppy!

Allegedly but I have not seen one of the seat maps so cannot comment.

Yes I believe the y+ planes will shrink F to 4 seats, however, they have not taken delivery of any 77W with y+ yet. The last plane to return to active duty was 9V-SWJ a couple of weeks ago . This plane received a complete fit out inside with F,J and Y all receiving the new seats like the 77WN and the new IFE, but no y+. 9V-SWG has also been refitted to the same spec. That makes 6 77WN and 2 refits in circulation

I'm pretty sure they have now changed this... you can have both if you want. And even if the menu says 'either/or', the meals will be catered so you could ask for both meals.

diningdecadence... would like to hear your thoughts on this route.. In the coming year I have some trips to and from IAH that I need to do and can quite often find availability on SQ for this one but cant seem to find much info on how flyers feel about it.. TIA

HMMM it was October 2013, our first long haul trip in J. at the time very exciting. on board service is excellent (as i have realised is par the course). SQ J seats a bit awkward on the recline, as to get into bed mode you have to fold it down.

menus to come separately.

i recall having a service dog next to me with a lady, and the dog coming for a cuddle at my feet at one stage whilst she was asleep. slightly awkward but a cute beagle so it was all good.

sorry - uploaded from the app and not sure how to rotate- mods feel free to help! otherwise turn your phone/ laptop upside down!

Is that meant to be permanent and/or daily? Flying 228 on the 5th of August (Wed) but the website still says that it's a 777.
Yes it appears daily - and no It will not be permanent - appears to be on MEL route June 18 to July 20.

I have F/R MEL-SIN-LAX booked for Sept 15 - when I made this booking on Oct 2014 the 380 was showing then to be on 227/228 rotation but it no longer is. No doubt SQ are swinging metal around onto routes most deserving on an ongoing basis.

i have lucked out on the A380 on SQ227 in july in a F suite. It is the last leg in my RTW that has been pieced together with the extraordinary knowledge gleaned from this site. ;)

I was able to book a suite saver some months back (velocity transfer), and the A380 was back listed then. That was the clincher for me to book F then. Was a bit of a points splurge for the night flight, but being the last leg, i couldnt help myself. My first SQ flight!, and in addition it is my only A380 leg of trip. (plus there is this thing called TPR....)

I maybe over it all by then .... but cant imagine a better place to be exhausted after 30 days of travel! cant wait!

While there is a small difference between day/night flights in terms of the amount of food you are offered, I don't think the 'experience' is any less. You might not be awake as much... but in reality there's not a lot to be doing between meals anyway in terms of service. Maybe an extra drink or two... but it's not 'non-stop' pampering... there's no continual service element to be missing out on.

Great to hear MEL-T!

Indeed, the biggest difference will be my attitude/demeanor/stamina/bloated liver disease from first legs to last leg of trip 30 days later! I will be talking advantage of the bed dont you worry. Pity those poor ANA stewards in 3 weeks time when im just starting out!

The clincher for me was the A380 and flying out of Changi. IMO, you have to judge an airline on it home turf. If an airline cant get it right out of their home base, you are in trouble from the start.
