SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Is that what it is? I remember I returned from LAX one time and then had to back track to China - reqd an overnight in SIN right in middle Grand Prix - didn't even think of booking hotel til a week or 2 beforehand - rooms were going for 1K+ for the sh*ttiest hotels - ended up sleeping on a bench in airport.

"... ended up sleeping on a bench in airport..."

How did the Suite FAs greet you in the morning ?

Operation Seat 2D was a no go.... even after saying DYKWelitecrusier is !!! :p

would appear your advice was taken up by someone else. 2D occupied, 2C avail - although shown online as not avail).

3C/D also occupied. Plus 3 other F seats. So at this rate we are 7 occupied, 5 empty. Looks like it is party flight home.

I concur hotel prices the 2nd week of june also nasty due to SEAsia games being on. After more than a couple trips to BKK in the past 5 years, i was shocked at SIN hotel prices. Luckily got an accor sale, but even then entry level rooms were not on sale... have to stay in suite!! but sale price brought it down to same price as entry level, so fine by me.

380 back on 227 / 228 on MEL route as of June 18 - hop in for your chop boys and girls.
I've been slow in picking up on this but I just checked my seat allocation (lowly Y) for SQ 227 on 18 July and found there were still a few Y seats available in the upper cabin so I was able to swap to one of those - good news for the very last leg of my trip.

Had my first SQ F experience last week - MEL-SIN-PVG 77W and A380. My thoughts:

SQ F lounge in MEL very dull - I think I prefer the J side because as least it has a bit of atmosphere!
77 old F still extremely comfortable - given it was 777-300 with the regional J I was very happy we were up the front.
Had a PHENOMENAL F crew member names Fiona - by far the best crew member I have ever had. Genuine, charming, interesting and interested. Nothing too much trouble - extremely proactive, excellent wine knowledge, not robotic at all. Addressed by name every single interaction, given teddy bear which will be a great gift for my new nephew. Supper was delicious, 1 other pax in F. A noticeable step in in service and F&B over J. Can I send feedback through to SQ about her?
Didnt find 77W F bed overly comfortable, mainly because my seatbelt was a bit short and tight around my body. Didnt sleep that well because fairly bumpy ride most of the flight - seatbelt sign went on every hour.
We both felt fairly wrecked when we arrived in SIN. Straight to TPR which was nice but its just a fancy waiting room. Proudly told my staff who could and couldnt enter TPR - thought this was a bit odd - I dont care whos in there. They could do a lot more with the space. Breakfast was nice - had a shower and then tried to nap a bit in a chair.

Very exciting boarding A380 Suites. Its just as ridiculous as it looks in the picture. Loved the sliding doors. Still felt exhausted from only about 3 hours sleep overnight so asked beds to be made up ASAP. We were in 3CD and with only one other F pax hidden up in 1A (I did not see them once the entire flight) they proactively offered to make up 2CD for our beds. A380 beds much more comfortable - with the doors closed slept solidly for about 2.5 hours and felt much better (was sleeping so deeply the crew couldnt wake me lol).
Lunch with the trimmings dining together in 4A. Very nice. Service not as polished as the previous flight but still very good - a bit of a case of too many cooks. Would have been better if 1 person just did everything - they seemed to have loads of crew for the 3 of us in F.
On time arrival in PVG which I understand is quite rare!

Overall, my partner summed it up as 'I only want to do F again if we have these Suites. Otherwise J is fine'. I guess I feel the same - for overnight flights I dont think there's much difference between the long-haul J experience and the 77 F experience and SQ dont have an A380 out of MEL anymore. I absolutely adored every minute of the experience though - if the A380 is an option or day-flight 777s are practical its going to be very hard to settle for J with my points without stretching for F. I felt like a king and reconfirmed my love for SQ as my favourite airline.

Thanks for all your assistance here all - it was a wonderul experience!

Many moons ago Mrs UXB and myself received one..we were on our honeymoon. In those days, and we are talking 10 years prior to AFF membership, travel was paid for with $ and travel was down the back of the bus. Ahh the good old days;)
Shared the cake with the other pax in our row who was most greatful, Victoria sponge cake if my memory serves me .
Must have been the travel agent who tipped them off cos it wasn't me and Mrs UXB didn't even know where we were headed for the honeymoon ,let alone the airline.
Three years ago MrMac & I travelled MEL_CDG, in F with SQ, our first time in the A380, to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. I mentioned this to one of the (fabulous) crew. We were subsequently awoken by same FA at about 90 mins before landing with a card made and signed by all the crew incl the Captain, and a big chocolate mud cake covered in ganache, plus a bottle of excellent French bubbles (sadly due to the volume of bubbles consumed inflight I can't recall the label)to smuggle off the plane. A lovely gesture. Mind you trying to eat rich chocolate cake at about 5 in the morning was a battle, till we thought to ask for a glass of bubbles to wash it down! Crew were very happy to share the cake. A very thoughtful gesture and typical of SQ's great service. And yes I did give feedback - but not the free points!!

You certainly can - and it will get through to Fiona and the relevant department - and it will be greatly appreciated by Fiona - [email protected] - do not hesitate - just do it.

Yes SQ Customer service staff (FAs/ground/call centre) have regular appraisals and their career path can be dependent on good customer feedback... So if you have a great experience, write in! Also, for Australia its [email protected]

Tonight I tried to do a mixed business and Suites set of flights on line but the web switched to all business class. A call to Kris Flyer and they fixed it for me. Gee I am happy now that I have 2 Suites Savers to London with a 2.5 hour stop in TPR.

I had no idea you could do this!

Perfect for my next flight J MEL-SIN and then F SIN-ZRH and then back to MEL

From MEL there is no point as you will pay the full F price. A mixed redemption is only an option from PER as there is no F from PER but it is cheaper than 2 seperate awards.

Yes 195.5k Kris Flyer miles for the 2 one ways out of Perth plus about $900 in charges. Picked our favourite Suites because we could.

A question please for the SQ experts - if I have a confirmed Standard J booking but have a waitlisted Saver Suites/First that clears would I get a refund of the points difference?

yup - have to cancel your standard J, and then re-book the saver F.

I was comfortably ensconced in 3C on 380 awaiting push back to head to PEK - had my best female friend Krugerette keeping me company:

Captain comes on PA - 'Ladies and gentlemen we have a minor problem and we will be facing a 2 hr delay - we may even have to change planes' - ok no biggie - plenty Krug / Dom on board. 15 mins later - 'Ladies and gentlemen we will indeed need to change planes'!

So now firmly ensconced back in TPR with a new friend Pippy Heidy - born in 2002 so only a young'un hence the reference as friend and not girlfriend:

Taking to challenge in ur stride!

One must be totally flexible amongst the uncertainty of the modern era - no biggie - am assuming easier to change planes at ground level rather than upstairs huh?

When I arrived into TPR this morn I was 1st pax in for the day - 4hr 10mins later I am again on my lonesome in TPR - normally I don't drink but the loneliness and solitude has driven me to do so.
