SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Last week I was fortunate to be able to help a friend get an award seat on SQ 232 SYD SIN in Suites and then on to LHR in F to attend a funeral on Friday (she was expecting a Y seat). She has only once travelled J (an at gate upgrade) and has been blown away by the experience so far. I did ask whether she had received an invitation to the TPR, but as it was close to push back, I didn't get a reply.

Would you mind answering these Cruiser Elite - would she have/will she be offered an invitation to the TPR? If flying into SIN in Suites but stopping overnight, are you able to access the TPR on arrival? Is it only Suites pax who are invited or does it extend to F pax too?

Timely question Bazzi - I did actually get full low down on TPR / F SKL access this morn from Manager - quite a few things I learnt myself actually - can I give thorough response tomorrow when I am in hotel room in PEK and don't have to type with these fat fingers on a tiny phone screen?

So am back fairly and squarely ensconced in 3C again once more - and my best girl Krugerette has joined me again:

But Captain has just informed us - 'Due to weather over Sth China sea there will be a further delay 1,5hrs' - gonna be well and truly pickled by the time I get to PEK at this rate!

Damn right MEL - I will certainly look into AC when SQ stop flying

I guess for me it comes down to practicality. Sleeping on short sectors such as SYD-SIN and SIN-PEK makes SQ a difficult choice. CA offers me 8 hours uninterrupted sleep (allowing for service/food), and CX about 7.5 hours via HKG. SQ unfortunately can't match that.

CA (and to a lesser extent CX) allow me to maximise my time in Shang Hai.

Spot on the money there - bus dep on disgraceful KA J on 320 just cannot hold a candle to Suites on SQ 380 - you got me there MEL!

One must be totally flexible amongst the uncertainty of the modern era - no biggie - am assuming easier to change planes at ground level rather than upstairs huh?

When I arrived into TPR this morn I was 1st pax in for the day - 4hr 10mins later I am again on my lonesome in TPR - normally I don't drink but the loneliness and solitude has driven me to do so.

The sad thing is that your new friend is PH. :(

Absolutely! Look forward to it. Have read differing reports re access - thought if anyone knew, it would be you.

So wish I didn't have that very bad experience with (read far too much at one time) Moet in my younger days - have struggled to redevelop a taste for Krug et al since - feel like I am missing part of the fun of J (and one day beyond!) However those charming (but naughty) Singapore girls help me (?) make up for it with the Bordeaux reds and stickies!

Have my first SQ Y in a while (last 5 have been J) MEL-SIN-SGN on Friday, couldn't say no to $620 one way...

Is it only Suites pax who are invited or does it extend to F pax too?

Access to the TPR is for any SQ first class/suites passenger, paid or award ticket, and on any airline's ticket stock.

A boarding pass is all you really need for access, however passengers may or may not additionally have a TPR invitation.

Thanks MEL-Traveller

Here ya go Bazzi - hope this makes sense:

SQ First Class Lounge access:

Any passenger holding a SQ First Class / Suites Class BP - commercial ticket or award redemption - is eligible to enter both the SKL F section and also ‘Invited’ to access The Private Room.

Any passenger holding a SQ First Class / Suites Class BP - commercial ticket or award redemption -is entitled to bring one guest into the SKL F section – guests cannot enter The Private Room.

F Lounge guests must be holding a ‘same day’ BP for SQ / MI (Silk Air) or any BP issued by active Star Alliance member.

SQ F / R BP holders have ‘departure’ access to F lounge - clearly on departure from any port you will be holding intact BP and have access to F Lounge in that port – and if transiting SIN you will have intact PB of outbound flight – so you are eligible for F / TPR Lounge access there - or if your flight originates in SIN you can access SK F and TPR - that part is pretty straight forward huh?

SQ F / R BP holders have ‘arrival’ access both at SK F / TPR in SIN basically like this:

  1. If you had early morning arrival into SIN and had a stopover or indeed your flight terminated in SIN then you can enjoy SIN lounge ‘arrival access’ for a reasonable time before you head to your hotel to check-in or to another destination. I think reasonable here means you can’t camp in TPR for 3 days non stop.
  2. If you arrive into SIN on SQ F/R and have onward flight same day with another carrier you can still enjoy complimentary arrival access at SK F or in TPR – no guests permitted though.

I hope that makes it a bit clearer for all – I was unaware of arrival access until yesterday – spent 30 odd mins with Lounge Manager chatting – lovely lady – mother to all the TPR staff – they all call her ‘Mama’.

As for TPR 'Invitations' - physical hand written invitations to TPR are supposed to be handed to all SQ F/R pax - but this is not always done - ex MEL you have to ask - ex PEK/PVG they always give me one - I have posted pics here earlier in this thread and they are a FABULOUS souvenir for anybody doing first SQ F or R trip - just make sure you ask at port of dep or ask at entrance to TPR - they will be happy to provide you with one.

EDIT: I should add here that arrivals access to Lounges for F/R BP holders ONLY - does not extend to J arrivals holding J BP.

very helpful cruiser. We utilised this with a J onward redemption to BKK but presumed we got in cos of paying F price redemption whole way.

will now use next year when connecting to SQ Y from SQ R to get to MLE from JFK!

I am hoping the folks visiting this site are all "living the dream" CE. Have some ATO to pay this month and yes Citi still get most of the non ATO.

Thank you so much Cruiser Elite for the effort you have gone to. Very much appreciated and some embarrassment saved - I would have tried to access lounge on arrival on a J BP.

I like the discreet nature of Singapore Air with the J+lounges accessed within the SilverKris lounge.
When in J+, I just leave it to the staff to decide who always politely point us in the right direction or provide a nice escort to the private room.

On SQ218 this Monday (Tip of novices on this flight, it leaves at 5 past midnight so be there the day before!) in Y unfortunately, will be hard after my recent trip in QF F from LHR!

At least SQ Y is reasonably good in comparison to other Y services.

Just wish SQ would recognize VA Platinum status a little bit more, if anyone is in SIN on Monday and can guest me in to the silverkris lounge I'd appreciate that :)
