SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

TBH Ken 1 I am a little confused at all the flts you mentioned - I would 100% confirm J flts that suit you and gets you where you want to go - from there no limit to number or combo of R/F W/L you can add - 'Reserved' means it's basically there for you when you want to confirm it - TTL should be removed for ALL your 'Reserved' bookings if it exists - I don't think they do exist but I might be wrong - if W/L clear can easily upgrade J Conf Bookings to R/F - straight forward

Thanks @Cruiser Elite. I'll call tomorrow and confirm the J flights that we originally booked and ask them to add a long TTL for the F bookings, hopefully giving me until June if they will, or if they will remove it completely.

So would you suggest that if the waitlists aren't opened up soon that I ask them to extend our original J SQ222/322 seats, possibly until June, and that I confirm Mrs Ken1's SYD-SIN-LHR F Saver and hold my MEL-SIN with waitlist SIN-LHR and hope that this clears by June, or that I confirm the original J flights and ask them to hold these F bookings?
Waitlists may or may not clear from anytime the booking is made up until the flight. I am a little confused on what you are doing and it sound like you maybe over complicating your travel. I would just book what ever works for you and put in for waitlists as you can.
I am "Reserved" on F Saver SQ228 MEL-SIN and waitlisted SQ306 SIN-LHR. I asked about waitlisting SYD-SIN SQ242 so I could be on the same flight as Mrs Ken1 and originally I was told that this couldn't be done on the same day as the MEL-LHR
I do not think this is correct, I had booked Mrs&MissM BNE-SEA and then waitlisted MEL-SIN (same day) connecting to the same SIN-SEA flight they were on.

I called on Sunday to ask to change our booking from the J flights to F Saver flights, one from SYD and one from MEL that seemed to be available at the time. He had it ready to confirm the Saver F bookings for both of us and my flights from MEL were no longer available as he tried to confirm it for me. He had cancelled our originally booked J flights by then and I was told that he had requested a Waitlist for my MEL-LHR flights and that he had requested that a seat be released and that he would call me back the next morning.

It was on my third call about this yesterday that I asked if there is a way that they can re-instate our original J flights and she checked and said she could so they are now showing as "Available for Confirmation" for both of us. I was under the impression that I would have to decide in the next few days whether to wait and see if my F Saver waitlist for SIN-LHR is successful and not know if we would both definitely be able to get to LHR or to confirm and ticket our original J bookings and lose the chance for the F Saver flights. I didn't know I could do as @Cruiser Elite and you have mentioned to me, about having the TTL extended for a long period to hold the F Saver flights we are trying to book. I will call tomorrow to ask to have both the Reserved and Waitlisted flights held with a long TTL.

Thanks again to you both for your advice. It is much appreciated.

If it was my flights I would book and get the flights tickets between AU and LHR that you are after be it 1 F and 1 J or 2 J only you can make that choice. Once you have ticketed flights you can still waitlist for F. Your comment comment about 'losing the chance for the F Saver flights' is not that accurate, they are on waitlist as SQ has not released them and may not release them. I am only guessing that someone who has a confirmed J booking and waitlisted for F may get cleared before an unconfirmed/ reserved booking. If your waitlist clears you will receive and email and you just call up, they will go through the additional points, taxes re ticket you agree and its done.

Thanks @Matt_01 and @Cruiser Elite for your advice. I called SQ this morning and have now confirmed and ticketed Mrs Ken1 in F Saver for SYD-LHR on SQ242/306 on the original date we had booked the J flights. There was still an F Saver seat available for the day before so I have now booked and ticketed to travel on the same flights a day earlier than Mrs Ken1. I have put in waitlist requests for myself for the date of her flight and for Mrs Ken1 for the date of my flight so if one of the waitlists are confirmed we can travel together, but if not at least we are still getting to London. This will be our first time flying F so we're looking forward to it.

I can't click "Manage" for either of our bookings to try to select seats - it is greyed out. Also I had to go in and "Add frequent flyer number" for both of our bookings and even after I added our KrisFlyer numbers it still shows "Add frequent flyer number" when I go back into the bookings. On the original J booking our KrisFlyer numbers were on the bookings automatically. I'll see if the system updates overnight and I can go into "Manage" tomorrow.

An old post of yours from 2016. But I thought I'd share that my partner travelled out of SIN on Saturday night, and was very pleased to report that Mohammed is still working the bar for SQ in the SKL (I guess/assume/hope he will be back in the F Lounge once it reopens).
Seriously? Fantastic! Great dude 👍 Hope I can bump into him on Mar 31 - I did have his number but somehow lost it.

Hi all!
My partner and I are looking to use points to book J class flights from Singapore to LAX.

Can see there is SQ12 and SQ38 both available, but not sure which one would be a better flight, for standard, seats and overall experience.

Does anyone have any recommendations, and where do you typically go to find this sort of information on specific flights and legs?

There are trip reports/reviews to be found online without much difficulty. Not going to mention any partic commercial sites but you could always search for, oh I dunno, 'review sq 38' and see what pops up? Ditto for seating guides, tho seatguru is one site I will happily identify..

Rang this morning (2.5hrs hold) to extend the ticketing time limit on a booking. No issues, staff very good.

Also put in a chaser for one of my waitlists. Assuming it is successful (understand it may/probably won’t), how long does it usually take between putting in the chaser and receiving a result?

In business class I prefer the non-stop flights, as they allow you maximum flexibility in terms of sleep, rest, movies etc, with the mid journey disruption, and unlike economy you don't necessarily have the burning desire to stretch your legs at a layover enroute. SQ38 is non-stop, SQ12 is via NRT.

The other variable, do you prefer arriving evening or late morning? We took SQ 38 3 years ago, in premium economy, it was fine, and arriving in the evening, we went to our hotel, used the lounge, slept and woke the next morning ready and raring to go.

Just spent over an hour on SQ Chatbot to upgrade 2 x J Savers to F/R Adv Rdpts - upgrades were seriously straight forward and could easily have been done online pre-Covid but so many simple transactions now just cannot achieve.

Still the Chatbot was way easier then waiting on hold for an eternity - definitely way to go after this experience 👍
