SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I had to cancel two rewards flights last week because I managed to book a better option. Phone consultant informed me that I had to do this on line.

How long does it normally take for the points to be recredited to your account?

I also cancelled 2 rdpts a couple weeks back and I noticed pts and $s back in accounts in only a couple days when I next checked - didn’t know exactly when redeposited* - obviously YMMV

And I just cancelled a 2 pax J Saver Rdpt FRA-SIN-MEL as Ifound an ex ZRH flt with better timing SIN-MEL sector - will post when pts and $s redeposit

* Edit - WOW - pts back into KF account immediately - I will edit again once $s show in AMEX

The new silver kris lounge in SIN isn’t half bad… but damn it’s small! There are literally people on the floor. Maybe a ploy to pretend things are fully pre-covid?

Isn‘t also only half re-opened? Plus the Gold lounge is closed…

Very crowded in the evenings as most long haul connections are during those times. It was almost completely empty early in the morning during my visit because intra-Asia flights were still few and far between.

The lounge itself is nothing special, I hope SQ are doing better job with the other lounges. Looking forward to visit TPR next month if indeed it will open on time.

It's half open plus the gold lounge, first lounge and suites lounge are all closed.
Exactly, hence the overcrowding during the peak times.

You’d think by now, they‘d reopened the Gold lounge - even if only during peak times. Especially since the rapid relaxation of SIN entry/transit rules and increasing PAX movements.

I read somewhere that the 1st lounge reopening was delayed due to physical works to be completed. I don’t recall seeing a revised date. Nor a date for opening the rest of the J lounge…

I don’t expect much improvement when I pass through next week but hopefully it’ll be better in May on my return!

The rest of the J lounge is currently dedicated to F pax.

Hopefully new lounges will be ready soon then J lounge can finally expand to its dedicated capacity.

Thanks @Matt_01 and @Cruiser Elite for your advice. I called SQ this morning and have now confirmed and ticketed Mrs Ken1 in F Saver for SYD-LHR on SQ242/306 on the original date we had booked the J flights. There was still an F Saver seat available for the day before so I have now booked and ticketed to travel on the same flights a day earlier than Mrs Ken1. I have put in waitlist requests for myself for the date of her flight and for Mrs Ken1 for the date of my flight so if one of the waitlists are confirmed we can travel together, but if not at least we are still getting to London. This will be our first time flying F so we're looking forward to it.

I can't click "Manage" for either of our bookings to try to select seats - it is greyed out. Also I had to go in and "Add frequent flyer number" for both of our bookings and even after I added our KrisFlyer numbers it still shows "Add frequent flyer number" when I go back into the bookings. On the original J booking our KrisFlyer numbers were on the bookings automatically. I'll see if the system updates overnight and I can go into "Manage" tomorrow.

I phoned SQ the day after I confirmed and ticketed our F bookings on the separate days and I asked him to do seat selection since I couldn't do it online. We selected 1A for each flight and they show up if I go to Check My Trip but they don't show up if I go to "Bookings" then "Manage Booking" when I'm logged in to SQ. When I go to "Manage" at the bottom of the screen while in each booking to "View rewards and select/change your seats, baggage and meals. Click on 'Manage' and go to the individual passenger's page to make changes" the "Manage" is greyed out and I can't select it in either booking.

He told me that the reason I can't access "Manage" on the bookings would be because I have waitlists requested. Does this sound correct? Also our KF frequent flyer numbers are still not attached to the ticketed bookings, even though I have entered them multiple times. They were listed on the original J bookings but haven't transferred to the upgraded F bookings.

I'm due for a work trip to Singapore in May, dates aren't finalised yet but most likely the first couple of weeks. Thankfully our policy allows us to fly Premium Economy for flights over 7 hours, which I believe narrows things down to SQ and BA (given the QF A380 isn't returning until June).

My goal is to upgrade using points to J. I have an abundance of points with QF, but I believe that it isn't possible to upgrade a BA flight using QF points. Is this correct? Assuming so, I have enough points with Velocity that I can transfer to KrisFlyer to cover the upgrade. A few questions, given my inexperience with SQ. If I can see business saver availability when searching, does that guarantee I will be able to upgrade my PE flight? I understand that Lite and Value fares cannot be upgraded - our work system has fares in L, which appears to be okay from an upgrade perspective. Is this correct? Anything else I should be aware of before booking the PE flights?

Yes, it was fairly crowded when we departed in early February. Must be due to *A Gold pax filling up the lounge too, as Gold lounge still closed.

Was so packed that we nearly weren’t able to find a seat.

Shows how ignorant I am with VA/SQ, completely forgot it had been suspended. I should be able to come up with the points from a family member or an AMEX card.
Also, if you're short the system allows you to buy the additional points needed it seems...

It looks to be an expensive option though - may as well have just bought business outright.

I'm hoping my SIN-DEL (Daytime) miles, some KrisFlyer Spree and hotel points hit my account by mid-April to bring this down, and the upgrade from PE to Business is still available

I have a +100% bonus available when purchasing points through IHG... which would work out a cheaper solution to my dilema above

Can purchased hotel chain points generally be transferred across to Krisflyer without restriction?

The rate of 5 IHG to 1 KF makes this expensive

$s also returned to AMEX and showing as redeposited 15/03/2022 - so FTR Confirmed 2 pax J Saver rdpt FRA-SIN-MEL cancelled directly on SQ Web Site under Manage My Booking at approx 16:00 Mon Mar 14 and pts redeposited immediately + $s refunded 15/03/2022

For clarification of my situation I will add some detail.

I originally called on Feb 27th to enquire about the cancellation procedure. I was given information by the phone consultant that to do so without penalty I needed to complete an online assistance request form as it is not possible to cancel on the phone.

At no time did they suggest that I just cancel in manage my booking and I assumed that to do so may incur a penalty.

I submitted the form and the two bookings in question disappeared from my bookings.

I called again yesterday and the consultant said that they could see that the request had been submitted an that the points and monetary refund would be processed in due course. I pressed her on what time frame "due course" was and she said she was unable to tell me how long that would be.

I am not a regular Singapore Airlines flyer but I have flown on them and used their customer service enough to see that there is a huge gap between the pre pandemic and current customer service standards.

I also tried the chat bot and it was completely useless for my situation.

Tonight again I used Chatbot to eventually get to an online chat with a live agent to send off a couple of Chasers to try to get a couple of WLs confirmed.

YES it took over an hour to connect but sitting and watching footy whilst in queue is easy as pie 👍
