SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

i gifted relatives a J to Singapore and they recently came back, and they said the service was great however the lobstar for book the cook, one was still frozen/cold inside, and the other tasted like it had been defrosted and then frozen and then reheated, and was inedible.

all my lobster experiences (3) have been very good

Some would disagree😂

These are just gimmicks. It is not possible to cook lobster for airplane catering any other way other than without cooking, chill then reheating on board by non chef flight attendants.
Indeed. Despite the expensive sounding ingredients, even First Class meals are just factory made ready meals and most of them are not really very good.

defintiely, i am not expecting them to be carting in a live lobster tank onboard, i did watch a documentary of airline food and even the premium classes, the food is either frozen or premade
however for F/J i wouldnt expect it to be inedible/still frozen

I did a J from singapore to taiwan and the lobster was still quite nice,
admittedly a cooked lobster in a normal restaurant didnt blow my socks off though/

but the sashimi version of lobster was amazing!

I had the lobster last week on a Singapore to Europe sector. As many others have said, aircraft food is nothing to get excited by, but mine was perfectly pleasant. Your relatives may have been a bit unlucky.

What I will say though is avoid chicken on flights ex Singapore at all costs at the moment. Singapore has been experiencing severe supply chain issues since Malaysia stopped its chicken exports and all dishes I’ve had on SQ recently have been completely inedible.

The chicken rice I had last month was delicious. It adheres to the KISS rule.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t order lobster on a plane. I like my lobster fresh off the boat.

SQ Crew stay at Marriott when transiting FRA - they have their own designated Crew Lounge area:

Given they have a 380 + 777 in and out each day it looks like a continual steam of SQ uniforms in Lobby coming and going.

The same crew who brought me in on 13th are taking me out on 19th post their FRA-JFK/JFK-FRA sectors

Made by the same factory by the same people using the same processes, heated up and served by non chefs on airplane. I can’t imagine the expectations should be any different. (Not that Neil Perry could do any better inflight compared with the FA). There are just too many steps for any QC to be right all the time

own designated lounge / bar area:
I wonder what their allowance is.

Does FRA security have "express lane" for J/F?

My last trip was mid 2018 and check in took 5 min, security took 1.5hrs.

Advice plse which / where is EWR lounge prior to 350 J to SIN?
Just wondering if you have taken your trip and if you were directed to the Clubhouse or the UA longe. Also if directed to to the Clubhouse were you able to gain access to the UA lounge under the *A rules. Just asking as I am the same route/ flight in a few weeks.

@Matt_01, I may have failed as a proper frequent flyer on this occasion because I don’t know which lounge I was actually directed to. They just said go to gate X and the lounge is there so I did. It was small with an order on an app at the table. The simple egg and bacon type breakfast seemed most popular. The lounge was small and felt so and was empty when I arrived but quickly filled up. I had eaten in the Marriott lounge already and expected breakfast on the plane and wanted to spin that out to fill up a few more minutes of the 19 hours, so didn’t order very much in the lounge.

As departure time was around 1000 it was a fairly early morning. I spent the night before at the Marriott Newark International Airport which was closet to the a/p and comfortable enough. The lounge dinner the night before was quite tasty.

I wrote a bit about EWR - SIN at post 8882 here.
