SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yes SQ are really actively trying to restore Crew numbers as flight operations and demand is seriously stretching them

Applications for new walk in Crew Members currently available only to Singapore or Malaysian residents - other countries such as India, Thailand, Phil’s etc apply online and just wait - again Covid rules this process

Also ALL retrenched and voluntary resignations due to Covid are being contacted and invited to reapply - we certainly line in a tipsy turbo Covid world do we not?

Naive question as I never really paid attention to loadings before, but how would the above passenger loading compare to the same aircraft/route pre-pandemic?
umber my apologies for not replying sooner but I wanted to actually get access to an In Flight Manager to get a reasonable response to your question.

OK so no short answer but to say these are currently very high yielding loadings - but even pre Covid certain flts / sectors were always full.

Ex AU SYD / MEL very well patronized - some times overbooked others not so - SIN-FRA-JFK route both ways always very popular

But currently capacity availability still not back to pre-Covid levels and demand is strong - seems Airlines just cannot keep up to demand - what a different world in which we now live 👍

Well CE i flew to LAX from Singapore via Narita in a 4 seat first class 777ER.
Food and drinks were excellent and of course I went the Krug as we do Moet at home.
Only 3 seats taken as there was a no show.
I had no competition for the Krug.

How many SQ flights does one need to take before being allowed to comment?
Well at least 1 - then we are all experts
well ive had 3 so that makes me an expert :)
and yes theyre not going to be as good as a lobster that was in the fish tank moment ago thats been cooked, and the whole your taste buds are more densitised at whatever 1000 feet (according to experts) and yes quality drops once frozen but i feel if done well, theyre still very decent .

admittdly all mine did taste a bit bland but that was probably all the champagne talking

A bit of homework I promised to flllow up on - just had a conversation with Lounge Supervisor Sandra:

T3 SKL J Overcrowding - at 9am lounge very quiet - Lounge Staff inform me that even with TPR and F Lounges now open J Lounge still bursting at seams in peak times - BUT - T2 is due to reopen in Oct where majority of Asian destinations will be moved to - this hopefully will take enormous pressure of J Lounge.

That is the plan but Singapore like the rest of the world is struggling with a chronic labour shortage - come Oct will they be able to adequately man T2? ATPIT plan is to retain 100% checkin in T3 and not reopen T2 checkin - what other services will be restored at T2 still being worked through - time will tell

Guesting into Lounge: No change to guesting into all SQ Lounges:
  • R and F pax can guest 1 into F Lounge but not TPR - guest must hold same day SQ boarding pass
  • J pax who are Elite Gold or higher can guest 1 into J Lounge - guest must hold same day SQ boarding pass
  • Y pax who are Elite Gold or higher can guest 1 into *G Lounge - guest must hold same day SQ boarding pass
Nap Rooms: 4 nap rooms in TPR - 2 with bed + recliner and 2 with recliner only. There are also 4 nap rooms in F Lounge - 2 with bed and 2 with recliners. Nap room usage has been a bit lower than they anticipated. Nap rooms are allocated strictly on first come first served basis - single person rocks up in TPR and says I want nap room with bed and recliner and it is theirs - they are not held in any way for couples.

Yes time is restricted to 2 hours but if there is no wait list at expiration of your 2 hours they will not boot you. TPR guests also get priority over nap rooms in F Lounge you might just need to wait a bit. Not exactly sure how this works

Also 14 recliner pods far end J Lounge where old TOR was located - just checked and 12 of the 14 currently being used 👍 - plenty snoring going on

Shower Doors Opening Out: As mentioned by wise old owl serfty yes it is s safety design reqt in SIN that these doors must open out. Indeed this morn there was a medical emergency in J Lounge - a dude waiting in line for a shower just collapsed on the floor and required ambulance - I guess we can all work it out from here.

TPR Acceptance: Sandra’s feedback is basically 50/50 - half love the new Lounge and half yearn for the old TPR. There are no windows in new TPR so no view outside - some have complained about this which kinda surprised Sandra as most times the blinds were down and you could see little outside anyway.

Some like me totally miss the old world English Club decor and feel - others love the new sleek modern design - plenty old timers wanting table cloths back - others no matter - but at the end of the day I am sitting typing this in a totally comfortable chair just finished a perfectly good breakfast and beautiful Champs served by gorgeous young ultra professional girls and boys - I am more than happy to embrace the new world order 👍

Thanks CE. Hopefully we can put those J lounge recliner pods to good use on August 3/4 with our long connection on the SYD-MLE flights.

new suites... consensus on best one for solo traveller?
go with row 3 to keep the others free for couples but they seem the smallest

You can choose any suite you like and if there’s a couple who wants to occupy the double bed they can always ask to swap. Row 3 might be slightly smaller but still grossly oversized with heaps of empty unused space.

Has anyone had an experience where SQ hasn’t been able to check you into the final destination? The desks at LHR tonight are being staffed by people wearing DNATA uniforms. I had to walk the woman who checked me in through the steps because she didn’t have a clue. I suspect they have a lot of new recruits. When I only received two boarding passes instead of three, she said she couldn’t check me in to HBA because the last leg is operated by VA (it has a SQ flight no though). Oddly, my bag tag says HBA. I’ve never not been able to check into a domestic connection before. The check in staff directed me to their supervisor who was equally as unhelpful. He said, the transfer in Melbourne is “easy and short - just down the hall”, which indicates he’s never experienced MEL customs or a late flight before. Has anyone been told this before? If so, are you still protected if a flight is delayed if you are on the one ticket but not checked in?

Just flew J on the 350 MEL-SIN, and then the 777 SIN-ZHR. That 350 bed, it's like there's something sticking up the middle around the lumbar area when flat and there's not a lot of room to move. Couldn't really get a good sleep.

OTOH, on the 777, I got close to 6 hours of sleep on a 12 hour flight.

I had the same experience on the 350 last month - I thought at the time it must have just been my seat/bed.

Does anyone have experience of the new T3 Krisflyer Gold Lounge and whether it also experience severe overcrowding at peak times? Thanks in advance.

looking for some advice...

booked a return redemption.. (SYD-SIN-CMB and return)
flown to the destination, now wanting to change the return dates...

1. is this possible? option to "change flights" under manage my booking is greyed out
2. Availability is also 0 in August/Sept in J. was thinking of keeping CMB to SIN as a redemption still (plenty of availability) and pay $ for SIN to SYD in J. is this possible to do?
