SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Seems there's still regional aircraft coming into Sydney. I had seats selected on a long haul config for the midday SYD-SIN in a few weeks and noticed my chosen seat had dropped off. Seatmap now shows a regional A350. Can't remember if it was a 777 or 350 previously.

It would've been a A350, the only 777 service is SQ212 in the morning.

Again return to some semblance of normality is painstakingly slow - I need to be into PVG late March for factory visits and then a trade show near PEK so dep there early April - ZERO rdpt inventory has been showing around those dates but last night up popped availability on suitable dates.

But 4 x single sector bookings to piece it together:
F Adv MEL-SIN - 155K pts + AUD 89.77
J Sav SIN-PVG - 43K pts + SGD 59.20
J Sav PEK-SIN - 43K pts + CNY 90
J Adv SIN-MEL - 90K pts + SGD 84.70

All daytime flts but req o/n in SIN to and fro - single sectors req extra pts but at least it gets the job done.

Current pricing for a comm flt on same dates:

I did have a comm CX (ugh) back-up flt I purchased for AUD 6.1K but that now cancelled.

How often were you checking ? I was looking to travel to PVG too in late march/early April and put in some waiting lists that never cleared.

You cannot ‘book’ with a rdpt - only claim if available within 96 hrs I think - in the good ol’ days when I had Crystal, Elly and Mia in KF call ctr at my fingertips they were able to break them free - but alas those days way behind us - am now working on a new contact in MNL call ctr and it looks promising
I tried to claim within 96 hours and i keep getting this message : -
"
Sorry, we are unable to allow changes to seat selection for your booking at this time. You may change your seat during online check-in (from 48 to 1.5 hours before departure)".

So I cant even look at what seats are available etc? My booking is a points redemption and i dont have any special status with Krisflyer. Is that why?

On your laptop your will not be able to see the seat map but if you log in on your smartphone or tablet and click Next once the 48 to 1.5 hours announcement appears you’ll be able to see the seat map briefly while the system takes you to next page. If a better seat is available you’ll need to call customer service and ask them to make the change.

In fact only yesterday I was looking at one of my +1 bookings for next week, she was in 12A on 350 and noticed 11A became available (as shown on the photo below). Called KF and they changed the seat with no issues.

A possible work around (not for all,I know), set an Expertflyer Seat Alert for the blocked seats you would like, If/when they become available you get the reminder, check the seating via the Expertflyer seating chart, then call and request.
Or has this been blocked as well?

I tried this before and expert flyer sent me an alert the seats were available. I logged to SQ in and they were still blocked. Expert flyer was showing they were not. I emailed them to ask what’s happening and they replied they are available however may not be for you.

yeah i wasnt sure if that was the updated one, if it is then no better seat is available anyway so it doesnt matter i guess.

Yea,but.. I am specifically talking about the 48 to 1.5 hours prior to flight period where the blocked seats are released if not prior taken by passengers with status.
We did this last month BKK-SIN J in the A350- got the bulkheads.
One row forward than were we were..
I know, I know, not much of a gain, but it's the principal of the thing...
I have had 'false' availability notifications from ExpertFlyer where it does not work, but usually well before the 48hr releases.
YMMV.

Hi SQ/Krisflyer experts,

My wife and I have points redemption flights SYD-LHR 16-Aug and CDG-SYD 17-Sep and it looks like my wife isn't going to make this trip.

1. What's the best way to cancel only my wife's ticket without impacting mine and getting the points back? Can this be done online or do I need to call SQ? Any recommendations to avoid unintended consequences?

2. Once 1 is completed I plan to try and change dates (based on availability) - should I try and do this at the same time?

Thanks for any assistance.
Phil

There’ll be better-qualified replies but wud:

1. check alternative Avail dates so you know your options
2. then call SQ to discuss cancelling one and changing the other.

and, based on advice seen here many times, If you don’t get the answers you want from SQ call centre (Manila?) the first time then HUACA…

Phil - are both pax on same booking? If YES you will firstly need to call KF and get the booking/s split to single pax bookings - this should be straight forward - I have done this for the Ette and myself for a FRA-SIN-MEL F booking late June.

You have plenty time bw now and flt dates to make changes - i would firstly split the bookings then wait until much closer to flt dates for next steps as who knows circumstances might change again

Thanks @Cruiser Elite - Yes, both pax are on same bookings and that's good advice to split them first and then proceed with other changes. I might even be able to convert my 2 x J flights to F ;)
