SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I booked 4 premium economy tickets PVG - SIN - SYD during april end of school holidays, SQ has just emailed that the PVG-SIN leg no longer has Premium economy. Has anyone managed to pay more pts and upgrade to business class?

Yep that’s the current state of play - pre Covid 4 flts per day to / fro PVG - pre Covid 4 flts per day to / fro PEK - now 1 flt per day each - this is the current world in which we live - will that change short term? Hopefully 👍

I asked SQ HQ about this again last week. No time soon is what I've again been told. I understand there is geopolitical hesitance in both countries.

I checked in at the counter (J/F I can’t remember which) for 208 last month. But Y was using kiosks (not that many people queuing but I got there about 75-80 mins before departure).

SQ website seems to be giving me some grief lately, next trip takes us to the USA and for whatever reason it won't save our APIS details. I am guessing this is because it's part of a multi-city booking and the system is set up to save for more straightforward one-way/return trips. Would prefer to sort it out ahead of time but might just have to allow more time at check-in.

Separately the website simply refuses to retain my wife's VA number on the booking (not a redemption), one screen even seems to suggest I need to create a KF account for her and link partner earn that way? Another activity to sort out at check in I guess.

There was some discussion recently about the BTC menu from departing ports.
Turns out, they have the BTC options on the website:

SYD has Lobster Thermidor.

MEL does not!
Was this a post-covid change? I haven't flown F/R ex-MEL before, only other ports and the Lobster has always been available from memory.

Yes "covid" - Same as being unable to book the cook for kids meals due to "covid"

It is actually quite annoying that they got rid of Yummy, I really don't know what to expect now when I book my kids Child Meal in J. Maybe I will get my 10yo son with adult BTC?
I always BTC for my son, 9yo. Usually it's a steak. So long as no spices etc on it, he is happy to eat it and then easier to negotiate on the desserts etc. YMMV.
