SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I've flown 1-row F a few times now. It's great, not claustrophobic, behind row one there's a walk way between the seats and the wall which separates F and J.

They still have 3 crew for F, same as when there are 8 pax, so just means better service (and less award availability).

First pics of F cabin on 77WN jolts my memory - it has been asked many times re program to implement PE and thus F 8 to 4 so following is my extensive research results from variety of sources - this is as much as I have been able to glean:

1. Addition of PE very much a trial concept - whether or not SQ will fully embrace going forward still up in air
2. Traditionally Sin-SYD and SIN-LHR are known as 'guinea pig' routes within SQ - always first test routes
3. As of Sep 14, 2015 there were 3 77WN with PE fit out operating (I think)
4. 773s currently in service will not be retrofitted
5. 77WN with F 8 fit out will not be retro-fitted with PE
6. Some but not all / well eventually all / well maybe not all 77W will be retro-fitted
7. For interim new 77WN deliveries will have PE fitted / F 4 fitout

Now this is as much as I have been able to ascertain - there is a limit to how high up food chain I have access to - but that is as much as my informants can tell me.

I have F MEL-SIN then R SIN-PEK booked for Nov 8 - I will try again to further check the status - hope that is of interest / benefit to some.

Again IMHO the sooner SQ fall out of love with PE the better.

They've fallen out of love before when they ditched Executive Economy class in 2008 for the all-Business class config on their nonstop USA flights. Remember this cabin had premium-economy style seats and served French champagne ;-)

On my first hop to jfk. Was very comfortable. I some ways I think I like it more for sitting than suites. Still wish could get a nice lazy a shape though. Was good to have a separate bed. Have a bit of a cold so gave up super and got 3.5 hours sleep. TV is amazing. So clear and vibrant.

Realised again I don't like krug. Can I twist a single bottle of VLGD pretty please :)

Showers in TPR need a reno. Was feeling a bit feverish but it felt like a sauna.

Jeffrey - when you were only pax in F cabin did they welcome you aboard like this

Oh sorry - my bad - that was when I was only pax in R cabin - let me try again - Jeffrey - when you were only pax in F cabin did they welcome you aboard like this?

Lovely warm welcoming bunch these SQ cabin crew!

I struggle to understand the PE value proposition.

It's marginally bigger seat, and marginally better food?
... And an excuse to extract points without actually upgrading you?

I get it! Quiet, exclusive cabin. Nice wide seats: no bashing shoulders or fighting for armrests. Much more leg room and recline. less baggage in the overheads. Better attention from the crew. Priority boarding.

Value for money? Perhaps not when you can fly business class for the same price with one extra stop and buy your ticket ex Asia. But for a straight-through flight it's gotta be more comfortable than economy!

I can see why people like it.

For me though, I don't think I could ever justify PE. If it's about money, it'll always be Y. If I'm going to spend extra, I'm going J without a doubt.

I actually think SQ's Y product cannibalises their PE product. Great service comes with every seat.

If J wasn't an option due to financial reasons, absolutely it would be PE every time (or buy a comfort seat), no matter what the airline.
