SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

There have been a number of queries recently re having to waitlist flts involving multiple sectors and what appears to be limited availability. I have a similar dilemma for Nov 8 - I want to fly MEL-SIN-PEK and arrive PEK aft 8th - so I need to book 218 dep MEL 01:05 / arr SIN 05:45 connecting 802 dep SIN 08:45 arr PEK 14:50 - PERFECT - and always my preferred flts.

However flt shows waitlist - I have had it waitlisted for 10 days now - I have also confirmed 238 dep MEL 10:30 on 8th with o/n SIN dep on 802 on 9th arr PEK 14:50 on 9th - costs me a whole day. When I do dummy comm booking I can see only 3 pax F on 218 and 1 pax in R on 802 - remember 2A on 777 and 2C/2D on 380 blocked as bassinet seats:

YES I know may be more pax who have booked and not selected seats but that is not all that common.

When I call KF agent can see flts lightly booked but no rdpt inventory showing - he has sent request to back office to see if can get confirmed so we wait. This just highlights the fickleness of yield management - it is a totally 'unique beast' with no rhyme nor reason - and not confined to SQ either - QF F rdpts opening up last week then closing again - so we wait and we keep calling and we hope - but we never give up.

HI, does anyone have any brunch menus from recent Oz to Sin flights? I am on SQ 256 J class dep at 9.10am. I assume its a small snack before landing - am trying to work out whether to plan on having dinner out or not

Appears to be brunch then a snack pre land Anna - more info here on FT - What to expect on SQ256 - bit dated but will be along similar lines.

Of course if you want a 'lunch' specialty rather than 'breakfast' specialty you can BTC - I know I always do out of SIN if brunch is listed.

.

isnt that that showing three pax on the 777?

the SQ802 was sold out in F a couple weeks ago. I was surprised. So they might be holding that for revenue.

Yep sorry saw that after I posted and meant to amend - when I search each sector individually for F Saver rdpt 218 shows available but 802 shows waitlist - and obviously the married sectors show waitlist.

802 sold out? I am totally surprised - R is always close to empty on that flt.

Here is 238 on 8th: Resize of 238.JPG and 802 on 9th: Resize of 802.JPG

Go figure!

Cove you mentioned that 2A on 777 is blocked as a bassinet seat. I was given 2A on 238 on 26 November and 324 to AMS in a phone booking with KrisFlyer on a saver reward. I originally had a J booking from BNE to AMS on a saver reward that left a few days later but due to changes at work could go a few days earlier. As there were no longer any J savers from BNE to AMS for the earlier date found first savers from both SYD and MEL.

To change the booking it was necessary to phone KrisFlyer as could not do on line for the change in class ( I still got the 15% discount). The very helpful girl at KrisFlyer asked me if I wanted to select a seat and when I asked what is the best seat on 777 she said 2A and selected that seat for me for both flights.

I am still the only passenger in first on 238 and there are two passengers on 324. Can not wait to experience first and the TPR for the first time .

In trouble at home as wife is going over 10 days earlier and is having to endure J on MH!

You could be moved from 2A for operational requirements (pax with baby). 2K would be a safer bet if you want to retain row 2 window with more certainty.

moffat39 if you look at the images I have posted earlier you will see that 2A is indeed blanked out as 'bassinet seat' - this applies to all 3 777s - 773, 77W and 77WN - BUT - in actual fact 1A is the real 'bassinet seat' - bassinets cannot be suspended from seat back in front which 2A would require - they are suspended from bulkhead which necessitates 1A being actual 'bassinet seat'.

You can indeed select a bassinet seat on phone with KF - but they will advise you at that time that indeed you may need to move seats if on day a bassinet seat is required by another pax.

I have no idea why SQ continue to do this - it just does not make any sense at all.

Totally echoed my experiences.

However just jagged R back on 3 NOvember from LHR SIN SYD.

1st time I had to pay Standard points but will be bringing home RWC trophy for teh Wallabies so don't mind the extra spend on this occasion

Cruiser having re read my post my post I called you Cove! Apologies for that. I enjoy all the posts from many on the Singapore threads including Coves and yours. For the last 3 years I am a once a year flier on SQ in J using saver flights and I have picked up many good tips from the regular posters.

I understand that I may be moved from my seat on 238 and 324 "for operational reasons" but don't really care where I sit in first.

I check my booking every few days to see if there will be any other passengers in first on 238 but I expect that I would not be lonely on my own with the attention from the cabin crew. I recall from a post some time ago that where one of few passengers in F or R you can sleep/sit in one seat and eat in another seat. Not sure if I will get to do that on 238.

Hi Guys,

Myself and the missus have been lucky enough to snag two seats in F class from Syd to Ams in December. I know it's not R class but I'm sure we'll still be very pleased since neither of us have ever flown 1st class before! In fact, the missus hasn't even flown J class yet! I'm not much better in that I have only flown once in J class but when I got a taste of it I was hooked! So, we have a 9 hrs 40 mins layover in Singapore before we take our onward flight to Ams. Is this too long a time to stay in the lounge? If so, it probably makes sense to see a bit of Singapore since I haven't been there before. Also, I assume we can go in and out of the lounge as often as we want, is that right?

You can go in and out as often as you wish - and even visit different lounges if you want. Whatever takes your fancy.

However - 9 hours is a long time! So I'd take advantage of the free singapore tours. These are run directly from the airport, are free of charge, and you have a choice of a day time heritage tour or an evening 'lights' tour.

The tours are around 3 hours. Registration is first come first served, so I'd get in early once your flight lands.

After you get back you can have a shower and a snack. You'll get dinner on the plane.

Full details of the tour are here, and there are links on that page to the heritage and lights tours. Plus all the times and location to register: Airport Attractions - Singapore Changi Airport

If that doesn't take your fancy, and if the pool is open, the pool is a great place to spend a couple hours in the sun and have a drink or two.

Firstly congratulations tirtytree on snagging your F flts - you will have an absolute ball on your maiden voyage.

As for lounge access YES you can come and go 100 times if you so desire - you will be treated like royalty.

9hr 40mins is certainly a long time to spend in an airport between flts - as good as SIN and TPR is I think it might be a tad too long. You can easily take a trip into town and spend a few hours - then when you return you will get to access SIN via the specially designated SQ F check in entry - experiencing is believing.

Whatever you you do enjoy every second and please report back.

Personally I would hit the lounge for a feed and drink, look at a few shops/most recent displays or gardens/wander all the terminals (T1 Kinetic raindrop)/maybe a massage then the transit hotel (min 6hr booking) for a shower and nap.

But that's me, we love Changi and we've visited Singapore quite a few times. I recently brought our Syd>SIN flight 8hrs forward so we can spend more time at Changi (14hr layover instead of 6hr).

Definitely head into town - I'd explore Gardens By The Bay if you're a first timer. Then a drink at Marina Bay Sands and return back to the airport for a shower before the flight. You will need to after the singaporean heat.
