SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

How long before the flight can one Book the Cook and special meals?
And - while I'm here - what is the recommended check-in time for SQ flights from LHR?

I think that BTC is about 4 months out - the wife booked it for our August flights a while ago.

Regarding check in
I do hand luggage and print bp at home so means straight to lounge as soon as…..
With luggage I would say minimum 3 but this variable is massaged by your risk tolerance if there is a ‘hassle’ getting there etc ie you plan to be there 3 hrs but allow for x eventuality. Some figure minimum recommended time but thats not me !😂

Well I checked in about 5am London time for an 11am flight. But I checked-in at GVA as I had to get to LHR first 🤣

However, counter opens 4 hrs before departure and closes 1 hr before departure, and usually my answer to these questions is check in at the time you feel comfortable checking in. No good recommending you check in 3+ hrs before the flight, if you're a last minute person. Conversely no point recommending checking in 1.5 hrs before the flight if that would give you a heart attack.

Also traveling J/F or have star gold status? If so, you get access to faster security and business class check-in which reduces the risk of being faced with substantial queues.

That's odd. For all my flights MEL-SIN-LHR and return at the end of June and mid-July, I'm seeing the message "Our meal selection is temporarily unavailable. Please contact your local Singapore Airlines office for assistance."

@MARTINE and @dajop I'm in J and planning to have hand luggage only, so thanks for the reassurance.

Had the BTC lamb for lunch on the day flight to FRA recently, was really good, and followed up with BTC for second meal of Bak kut teh, a local pork rib soup, which really hit the mark about 10hrs into the flight, as not so heavy.

You are most welcome
HLO means you can spend hours +++ in the lounge and drift into that paradise state. I reckon I could have taken double HLO (I wouldnt) and not a problem

Does anyone have experience with the kids meals? The options are basically "western kids meal" and "asian kids meal" so its hard to know what to expect.

MasterC is a bit older than your two little ones so their prerences may be different. I never got him a kids meal as they are often high carb and lots of sugar too. I'm assuming you're not flying Y, so I would do a book the cook. They do have kids meals in book the cook, so you can have a look through and work out what they are most likely to eat and choose accordingly. I order a steak for MasterC as he won't eat much else that's found on the menu. YMMV.

Yes, we're in J. Hopefully Miss TC will be able to choose something from the options available. Might just have to take a punt with the 2yo.

Not sure if your two are anything like my son but there's always bread, crackers, cheese and fruit! MasterC would be happy if I just let him eat that! 😆

Rcvd from SQ MEL Mgmt after feedback I had submitted:

Dear Mr Elite
Thank you for your email. I am well, having returned from some time off.
I’m concerned to read your feedback on the food and beverage in the lounge. We are addressing the food now. We review this quarterly to ensure produce is fresh and seasonable. We have our chefs create a menu plan and we review this for suitability.
The wine - I am aware of the comments on the price, but yours is the first comment that the quality is substandard. I have not received any feedback that the wine is not good. That being said, we are reviewing the beverage offerings. I’ll let you know the outcome shortly.
As always, I really appreciate your taking the time to give your feedback. It is valued.
Regards
SQ MEL Mgmt

So allegedly my feedback is first time SQ MEL Mgmt have had feedback re wine quality and yet I have seen postings by others that they had supplied feedback - something doesn't add up

Absolutely my two would be more than happy with those 😂

Miss TC has them bring out one dish after another on QF F last year, and she barely took more than a bite of any of it.

Typical bul***t response. They’ll do nothing about it.

I used to send feedbacks myself and got sick of those generic responses saying it’s valued and doing nothing to fix the issues. These days I keep to mostly positive feedbacks about staff onboard as I know it helps them, particularly when coming from J or F pax.

This is what we have mostly done with NoName Jnr. We will try to get him to eat something from the menu but when he inevitably refuses it’s bread. A long-haul J cabin is not somewhere I really want to argue with him so it’s a case of just get as much of something down his throat.
