SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

looking forward to trying something new and would have loved to again experience that stair climb but alas not to be.

I just missed doing that. When I did travel J on the LH B747 they didn’t allow downstairs J pax upstairs for a sticky beak!

I am trying to nail down as to whether we are eligible for arr access into F Lounge FCT? Flt marketed by SQ but arr into FRA on LH 747. We dep FRA T1 4hrs later so F Lounge in FCT would be much better alt than any of the lounges in T1 - anybody able to supply definitive response. TIA
That was going to be my situation and my conclusion was that I would get access to FCT, as based on operating carrier ( LH).

We dep MEL on 228 Tue - 2 x F booked way back MEL-SIN-FRA - as it turns out Tue 16 is 1st day 380 back on MEL-SIN route so for better or worse we are now on 380. SIN-FRA sector is LH F on 747 - looking forward to trying something new and would have loved to again experience that stair climb but alas not to be.

Yes you can access FCT if dep on LH or LX flight on the same day. I did this last year. If separate ticket ask check in to marry them then you may get escort from plane. Don't forget the duck too if that is your thing.

May not be the right place to ask but does anyone know how to exclude Scoot flights on SQ website? We've had sane issue with JQ flights on QF website.

I'm searching for SYD-BKK and checking specific dates to see which dates are cheaper. Airfare of $1090 appears and outbound legs are SQ-SQ and then checking inbound legs and only availability for that price is Scoot for the longer leg. If wanting SQ-SQ then add $270 which is ridiculous.

I'd rather not check that date if the option is Scoot. Webjet/Expedia almost the same. Choose outbound and only availability inbound is Scoot. No thanks.

Use an Australian travel agent who can access all available flights for the route and all dates. The fee they charge is to take away the frustration (and limitations) you get by booking on-line.

That's a good suggestion but the travel agent cannot do my planning. Dates are not firm. I like checking. Each day and the plan changes.

You'd think it'd be a reasonable expectation not to want to travel on a LCC when booking via SQ. Yes I do realise that SIN-CNX is Scoot only so no choice but SYD-SIN has multiple SQ flights and to be given Scoot as the only/main choice is silly.

LOL @Quickstatus.

It’s not the only choice. It’s the only choice at the lowest fare! A common issue with SQ you get your hopes up that it’s a reasonable fare only to find one of the long sectors is operated by Scoot.

Best approach is to try to find the cheapest booking class, and use a tool like ExpertFlyer to search for SQ availability in that booking class (on the overall journey in your case all the way to CNX).

I know this is the old argument - who is responsible for timeliness of ‘priority’ bags delivered to the carrousel. Airline ( who “should” make arrangements at both departure and arrival airports for priority bags to be stowed last and delivered first) or the arrival airport who need to ensure (mostly?) contractors respect the tags.

But total SQ priority bag fail for me arriving in MEL from SIN in F yesterday. I desperately, desperately wanted to get through immigration and customs ASAP to catch a very tight ‘fly forward’ connection down to Hobart, for a very good reason. Immigration was deserted so I was first at the carousel and then waited and waited and waited and waited as most of the flight’s bags came out in the carousel. Delivery was halted at one stage because the carousel was full of bags, except mine.

Finally arrived, I flew up the inclinator to Virgin check-in to find check-in had closed five minutes before hand.

Not happy, Jan. After a flight 3 hours later, made it into Hobart CBD with 30 minutes to spare. So thank God for that but really disappointed in SQ priority bags, but again, don’t know where the fault really lies.

SQ priority bags
Fault lies with the service provider whom you contracted the service with - SQ.

SQ should then take it up with Swissport who operates airport ground services in MEL.
But who contracts Swissport?. The airline? Or MEL airport?

My SQ F tagged baggage was 20th bag to appear at LHR. Most of the bags before mine were non priority.

In any event, it was in MEL that the video of the Swissport baggage handler was depicted throwing QF passenger bags.

Baggage handlers in AUS don’t care about priority tags, they send whatever comes first. Of course it’s not their fault, they just follow orders. In Asia on the other hand priority tagged luggage does go out first most of the time so if anything I would blame the local port’s baggage policy, not the airline.

Yup, as confirmed by I Love to Travel, the requirement is (a) an ongoing LH group flight and (b) you must have arrived in F on LX or LH metal. So an SQ code on LH metal is fine.

Lots of reports of the catering going downhill since they changed supplier at the Fcls. Unless you have a pressing need to go to the FCT I’d probably go to the lounges in the Terminal. Exactly the same in terms of amenities, less crowded, fantastic views. But no car to the plane.

Does anyone have experience with the kids meals? The options are basically "western kids meal" and "asian kids meal" so its hard to know what to expect.
Ordered the western kids meal in J out of Sydney and back out of SIN last month over Easter.

My 6yo loved it, was just pasta with a meat sauce for the main. Other courses were the same as the adult meals which he skipped but did have the garlic bread. No chocolate etc except the standard dessert course

The size? Some kids meals are adult sized

.....

I will declare maybe to the indignation of some SQTTT readers that not a single drop of alcohol was consumed on the 2 SQ flights (J/F) from SYD-LHR. Mrs QS on the other hand...🤣.

As to crew gifting, instead of the ubiquitous Lindt chocolate, I gave the crew 1kg of sliced pork Bakkwa from an airside Changi shop - with advanced apologies to any Muslim crew. Luckily no Muslim crew. These are much loved items FYI. I also bought some for myself and Mrs QS as inflight movie snack

Bakkwa is square red sliced and marinaded chargrilled/BBQ pork. Sweet lots of flavour. Closest western would be jerky but it's not as it is not chewy. Slightly sticky but not messy. It's not preserved - needs to be eaten like any BBQ meat. Very easy to eat as a snack
