SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Interestingly SQ and VA have a agreement which credits SC to VA and also receive PPS Value (like KF SC but based on $ spent) to PPS Club for revenue J or above flights - if Velocity number linked to KF number in the SQ partner profile. But need $25k spend less taxes p.a to get any benefit from PPS Club

This is a standard arrangement, you can credit your KF miles to whoever you like, but accrue PPS value for Business or First class travel ticket cost. BTW, as this is AFF and not SFF it's more like $28.5K spend less taxes p.a. ($25K is in SGD not AUD).

By the way, I am interested in your experience with SQ Y. 👍

They also love their hot dogs. Just like Iceland. But don't ask for a 'danish' at a bakery. Apparently it's an Austrian creation. Denmark does the best cinnamon (and other flavoured) scrolls. Iceland does pretty good ones too. I can't recall what they call the danish in Denmark though.

I couldn't fault SQ Y. Best Y meals I've had in a long time. Legroom was reasonable - we even got bulkhead seating on the CPH-SIN leg which was auto-selected as I didn't choose our seats on this flight. Staff are great but everyone knows that. Only negative was the wifi didn't work for me on the return trip and it's only two hours which wasn't made clear logging in the first time. But they are changing all that apparently.

There goes the bandwidth unless SQ increases the bandwidth with their provider. This will be a 5x increase in users.
Yes it took ages to get on in my experience and sometimes not at all.

With SQ I think you log in with your seat. so I wonder if they can quarantine certain bandwidth for their premium passengers?

It's the only way.
Have to put in surname and seat number (and email) . I don't know if putting in a dummy entry makes any difference

If it cuts out, it will remember your entry details

There is only one wifi SSID inflight. Interesting if the router can quarantine bandwidth for certain seats.

This article suggests you must have a KF# linked to your BP (and seat) to get the free access.

Fine for KFlyers and SQ award seats but will cause some angst for VFF (and other *A members) when they inadvertently start earning miles on SQ for their paid flights.

My recent experience on SQ278 connected to free Wi-Fi and received full quota of VA points (+ 50% bonus due special VA offer) + SCs. VA KFLY denoted on BP

Business class or whY? and were you prompted for a KF#?

Perhaps this expanded access for whY requires the KF#…?

Business and first get it no matter what FF number is on the BP. I read it that if flying Y you will need a KF number on the BP.

Currently the free wifi access only requires
Email
Last name
Seat number

I did not try a random name/seat number

I had J redemption. KF not entered but still got free wifi - well, when it was not dropping out
Yes you’re getting access based on class of service not KF membership.

It in theory should work for those who have a “foreign” program entered for accrual (FQTV field) and KF entered for service (FQTS field). But who knows until someone tries.

I used the wifi a lot when flying J MEL-SIN-USA return over December/January. No real issues that I can recall.

I’d say my odds of success with the wifi are about 80%. The two aircraft types I have problems with are the last tranche of 777s (SWU-SNC) and the A350 Medium Hauls. I rarely have issues with any other aircraft in the fleet.
