SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I am in the newly reopened lounge at Incheon. It just started back up yesterday. It's a quite nice small lounge renovated before covid like Changi but shut done almost immediately. Food is okay.
Same can't be said of the wines. No champagne at all, white wines very average. I know it only services J but it is still a bit surprising.
Am flying out from Incheon next Monday, and wasn’t sure about lounge so will look forward to checking it out.
As long as I can get my sui mai and crystal prawn dumplings in Changi I’m good.

First and hopefully last time ever flying SQ J.
Oh dear. Can you elaborate?

It's not bad. Some nice food. 3 showers, decent seating. It opens 3 hours before flights -there are only 4 per day. White wine was pretty rough.

The coffee is pretty horrible though. Use the Barista not the machine. It's a bit better!

Hopefully because it's SQ F/R ?

What happened ?
Yes, because it wasn't F/R as above.
Also mistyped - looks like they may have changed champagne offering from morning to evening.
There was only one type available at a time, for those visits I went to the SIN J SKL.
Or maybe it was different because of different days of the week.
Taittinger in a J lounge is excellent ... for those who aren't in TPR 😂

SKL J in T3? Isn’t there 2 spots where Champs available? At the bar manned unmanned and down past food area?

And then f it’s not out just ask and they will fetch it for you

Yes SKL J T3.
In the early morning it was too early for the bar to be manned, but there were some self pour spirits on the adjacent stand.
At the same time, there was the self pour champagne past the food area.

An evening visit, different day, had both champagne behind the bar (served by bartender) and the self pour area past the food. Same brand.

There was only one offering at a time. I wouldn't expect a J lounge to have more than one option of champagne.
Given their volume you'd expect a contract with one supplier and one offering. Or maybe the supply can't keep up with demand and they had to change!

For those interested in the third First class champagne offering, this from MileLion ...

Quite agree with the author - grower champagnes are often more interesting than the house brands and I just cant stomach Krug - too rich too woody. The only problem with grower fizz is that there are hundreds of them..

And for those who do like wood in their champagne, an article on the return of oak maturation: A Decades-Old Champagne Style is Trending. Here’s Why.

does anyone know if you can change travel date on a redemption ticket of a nominee, who is now no longer your nominee?

So, after being stuffed by Covid with my original European trip way back when and points probably set to expire have decided to treat Mrs Phoenix and myself to a Suites Redemption SYD-SIN Return in November. No point having points unless you burn them after so long I guess. Just after some more up to date (even though likely lots will change between now and November) on the must do experience things. Syd Departure 12:15 return Departure from SIN 00:45.

Both of us enjoy good champagne, we're spending roughly a week in SIN (and quite happy for any thoughts on best things there) but just curious on the must do best thoughts on enjoying the flights, lounges and experience while on our way there and back for our first time in First class let alone those fancy new suites.

Well, start with the last few pages of this thread: warnings on hitting the cheap stuff too early in the lounge on departure, new champagnes onboard and so on and so forth.. nicest thing we did last F/R trip with long layover in Sin on return was to enjoy airside hotel until late arvo, head to TPR for a normal dinner and then 💤 very soon after takeoff on the onight back to Mel. It made a difference to what is always an unreasonably short night.

but a serious Q: what are you going to do for a whole week in Sin ? Will be intd to see what’s suggested..

Lots to do in Singapore for a week, maybe search the Destination Guides sub-forum and ask the question there. Lots of local eating houses / hawker centres to visit, east coast park seafood, sentosa military sites, pulau ubin, raffles, changi museum, other museums, botanic gardens, pub/food crawl at venues along the river, nip over to batam for a round of golf.

Again to the coughpy Senator Lounge in FRA where LH think this quality of Lounge is acceptable to offer SQ R / F pax when in SIN LH F pax get to experience SKL F Lounge - OMG totally chalk and cheese in all aspects- no level playing field here:

Cotton towels - will post more in an hour when airborneIMG_1692.jpegIMG_1693.jpeg

OK let me start by saying with all due respect to previous posts and I may well be way off the mark but I totally reject the position of supply issues for no cotton towels in SQ WCs

Supply issues from China are way behind us - supply chains are totally back to pre Covid levels and indeed with almost any product today Chinese suppliers have warehouses full of products they would dearly ship at a minutes notice

SQ is an intl cargo carrier - you think they cannot get product A to point B within 24 hrs?

But here is what I was informed by a senior Crew Member today whom I believe is on the ball.

Pre Covid supplies like toilet paper, hand towels and most other non F & B consumables were stored at flt dep stations and loaded onboard pre dep. Post Covid this changed and all these items were warehoused in SIN and loaded onboard for ALL SECTORS of multi sector flights SIN-SIN.

Now clearly there is limited space within pax cabin for supplies so some supplies like toilet paper etc clearly take precedence over cotton towels - it was only on last sector of some multiple sector flights where supplies ran out.

SIN warehousing of supplies will soon disappear and SQ will revert to pre Covid status of all stations warehousing of such supplies. If AFF members have input to contrary I would love you to post but this totally makes sense to me.

OK so as to totally rebuke any misunderstandings that Cruiser is a ‘whinger’ or that Cruiser does not totally ‘LOVE’ SQ R and F today we are back in F on 777 SQ25 from FRA with a 55min connection to SQ207 to MEL - given we are over 1:00hr late push back then catching 207 is gunna be interesting - but I digress - my office for next 12 odd hours:
IMG_1683.jpeg
I love 1C on 777 - just seems like home - no doors - I can view entire F cabin - 4 pax - 2 toilets (albeit small for changing) - 3 Crew Members looking after 4 max pax (incl contrib from IFM) - not debating or wanting to enter into further discussion right now but this product suits me just fine - more than acceptable hard product and world’s best soft product - BUT - it does have 2 shortcomings that get up my nose:

1. No o/h bins in F Cabin - I just do not get this - old 777 did have - theory is that with no bins new F still affords pax plenty room under ottoman at ground level for pax onboard luggage so your luggage is within arms reach:
IMG_1684.jpeg
Bah humbug I say - here is my carry on and laptop under ottoman - impossible to stretch out of you over 5ft 9 or so without lifting your feet up onto ottoman - not acceptable - but just a quick request to Crew Member and cabin bag housed here with the poxy rock hard F cushion - I’ll get to that next:
IMG_1700.jpeg
IMG_1702.jpeg
So now we get this at our feet - not that complicated huh?
IMG_1691.jpeg
Now to the F Cabin cushion - these are as hard as rocks:
IMG_1686.jpeg
So talk to Crew and request sub for J cushion:
IMG_1690.jpeg
Perfecto - 👍👍👍 - now you are good to go - sit back and enjoy the best experience you will ever have in the air 👍👍👍

One last thing - for those who sook about treatment from SQ Cabin Crew - interact with them - they are humans - say something nice to them and it will come back in spades.

Crew today are returning from NYC roster - they left SIN Jun 1 and return on June 9 - yep they are professionals and it’s an occupational hazard - but seriously be reasonable - give a little love and lots will come back your way 👍

Cotton towels - will post more in an hour when airborne
Check a few hours into the flight (when the chooks have been fed and the lights turned off) and see if it is refilled.
housed here
Was offered this by CC on the SQ242 777 after I requested similarly

these are as hard as rocks
Perfect for me. (Of course YMMV). A bit small though.
But overall the 777 F is a very good product
