SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

:) No really, hes response is "Are we sitting in Business Class?"

Then I start explaining the different planes and seats configuration and time changes ect and hes "So are we sitting in business class?" and repeat.

Haha

That's one of the reasons why Im hesitate to start changing flights around, I hate to jinks myself and ultimately end up with either similar to current booking or an A330 because SQ changed their plane again.

There's better information over on sqtalk about the refurbs I think. Although for a daytime flight I'd probably take the departure time that suits best, unless you plan on sleeping.

Just redeemed 2 seats HND SIN SYD in F with a 2 night stopover (1 included in the flight selection) in SIN. Received the 15% point discount. Asked and was told that there was no stopover fee. However, if I had booked this on the website with the one overnight in SIN as part of the itinerary, taxes etc showed as JPY 51,170 (AUD $600 approx in total for 2) whereas I was charged the taxes in SGD $946 which amounts to just over $954!

Any ideas from the experts as to why the $350 difference?
Sounds like it could be the $100 USD stopover fee for one-way saver tickets?

Thinking out loud, because my husband has no opinion.

We are booked on SQ241 SIN>SIN departure at 7.05am on a 777-200 with a 1-2-1 configuration.

I selected this flight because at the time the 9.35am flight was an A330 2-2-2 but I noticed that its now a 777-300ER 1-2-1.

Should I phone the help desk to change flights?

Im happy with the older seats but haven't sat in the new J seats yet.

All first world problems but they look so pretty.

cheers,

In the midst of planning Christmas/New Year trip for the wife and I.

Thinking of going hard and doing FRA-JFK-SIN-MEL in Suites/F - I can't find any available saver atm, all on waitlist but my question is.

Can I add a stopover between JFK and SIN? I *think* I can but wasn't sure, being saver I think it was $100 for a stopover. Thinking the stopover would be a good way to spend some time in New York on the way back...

I did ask (expecting there to be the stopover fee) but the agent definitely said no fee and obviously he knew it was a saver redemption. He also couldn't explain why there was such a significant difference between the JPY and SGD.

Will email SQ and see if I can get an explanation.

I'm confused. There's no direct JFK-SIN flight. Do you mean JFK-FRA-SIN-MEL? You can add a stopover in FRA or SIN on that trip.

Sorry I missed how far out in advance you have booked. But I often book at the maximum out and equipment changes are common before I actually fly. Sometime ridiculously so. Once it was about six times! I suggest you take the flights at the times that best suit you.

April so not that far out now - which means panic stations when I think about all the work I have to get completed first. Yikes!

Sorry yes I did mean that. A whole night of airport codes got to me! $100USD per person per stopover?

Now thinking of just doing LAX-NRT-SIN-MEL as I can see space available on that route in J...

Has anyone flown SQ237/238 recently? Partner and I booked these for April this year a while ago for our first time in Singapore J and they were both 1-2-1 configs. Now looks like they've been changes to 2-2-2 configs which I understand is the 'regional' business setup without fancy seats etc. I remember reading some people from Brisbane had been shafted with these but not from Melb? Have emailed Singapore Mel booking office as I found their call centre staff next to useless when I tried sorting it out at the end of last year when only our outbound 238 had been changed.

Advice and people's experiences very much appreciated!

I picked a couple of random dates at the end of April and the SQ237/8 are both showing as 777-300 refitted... this is 2-2-2, but the seats are ultra wide and are sort of angled lie-flats. Not the most comfortable for sleeping, but still spacious. They are not the very old cradle seats.

If you want full flat you'll need to try and change your flights.

Are they the one comparable to A330 config? My understanding is any 2-2-2 config is the angled lie-flat. Okay for daytime flights but not great for sleeping.

they are a bit different IIRC. 777 ones are much wider, but also the end of the footrest seems to drop off. The a330 on the other hand are full flat, but angled... a bit like the QF MK1 sky bed.

I would rank non-full flats as follows... a330 ->777 -> spacebed (now defunct).

i'd go as far to say that I preferred the SQ b777 refit seat over QF's MK1 sky bed, mainly because they are so wide you could curl up in the seat and sleep ok anyway.

Thanks guys. Agree the daytime flight of 238 it probably doesn't matter (although the newer product looks better!) but for 237 which departs Singapore at midnight, it seems crazy not to use hardware with a full flat bed. Will wait to see what reply I get/if any alternatives are offered.

Here's a pic for me cobber Uppy:

This is is the Tait you have been going all ga-ga over isn't it Uppy? Do you know I stayed up way past my bed time last night just to have one on your behalf? See the label? See the vintage? SQ J offerings! Here is a suggestion - how about you CX lovers save this pic and email it into CX - ask them why SQ can offer this quality in J and yet CX continue to offer that Deutz sheep dip they offer in J ex Oz? I have a CX rdpt ex MEL May 5 so I would like you guys to get this matter cleaned up by then if poss.

But back to SQ - I still much prefer the blue labelled Prelude though - a poor mans Krug if there ever was one!

No mate - that was last night as they were making my bed - time is precious - there is only a limited number of glasses of Champers anybody can consume in a lifetime - so whilst bed being made I zipped back into J to 'have one for Uppy' - (eye candy in J much better than F also) - then back to F to catch up on the beauty sleep.

Today it's R on 830 SIN-PVG as I type this:

Phew, the balance in the world is restored... or some other mumbo jumbo :p

We consumed the vintage Taittinger a couple of weeks ago on 232 SYD-SIN. It was so good I had several, just to confirm the quality

A quick lounge access question. I'm flying SQ J and my little brother SQ Y. Can I guest him into the silver kris lounge at SIN ?

thanks in advance
