SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Which cities?

Just Shanghai this trip.

mrsmart how long are you in SH? Where are you staying? What plans do you have re sightseeing / leisure time?

Staying at the Andaz for three nights. No set plans as yet, but will be catching up with a friend (who also hasn’t been before) so I’d imagine the weekend will be spent eating and drinking, with as much xiaolongbao as possible. I always like to run when travelling, which I find is a wonderful way to explore, so parks/outdoor spaces will be sought too.

Had a great crew on 217 SIN-MEL (sub flt due to late arr into SIN previous day) pre XMAS so I sent off email to SQ passing on my appreciation of the crews efforts - and again I pointed out my disenchantment with the cost of WiFi on SQ flts when compared to others such as Emirates - response received yesterday:

Dear Mr Elite

Thank you for contacting us through our feedback channel regarding your travel experience with us on Singapore Airlines flight SQ217 / 17 December 2015 from Singapore to Melbourne.

We are pleased to learn that our crew members, particularly the ones you have named in your email, have delighted you with their warm and attentive service. Our cabin crew go through rigorous service trainings and are expected to serve in a manner befitting that of a world-class carrier, being professional at all times, and ensuring that the well-being of our passengers are taken care of throughout the flight. Thank you for your affirmation. We will convey your kind words to the respective crew members through their managers, and I am sure they will be motivated to keep up with the good work.

On a separate note, we are sorry to learn of your disappointment with the OnAir WIFI price plans. Let us assure you that we are fully cognisant of the increasingly competitive landscape in which we operate, and we recognize that moving forward, it is necessary for us to reduce and manage the existing price plans.

We have shared your feedback with the relevant team, and we were advised that our connectivity OnAir WIFI price plans have been revised with effect from January 2016, in response to feedback from discerning travelers like yourself.

You may wish to know that the revised OnAir WIFI price plans with effect from January 2016 are as follow:

OnAir mobile (volume-based):
-15 MB for US$6.99
-30 MB for US$12.99

OnAir laptop (volume-based):
-30 MB for US$12.99
-50 MB for US$19.99

At this juncture, the price plans have been reduced to more than half of what was previously charged. Moving forward, taking into account of what is feasible, we will continue to review and revise the rates progressively to suit the needs of our valued customers like yourself. This is our commitment and we hope to demonstrate our commitment to you in the near future.

Mr Elite, we appreciate that you care enough to share your experience and thoughts, so that we may have the opportunity to improve in these areas of shortfalls to serve you better. Thank you for your continued support of Singapore Airlines, and we look forward to the privilege of welcoming you on our flights again soon.

Yours sincerely

We have 8 Suites treats booked thru to December this year. I guess we like the product!

I have J flights booked for April and Ive been eyeing off Suite upgrades but Im too stingy with my points. Im telling myself for our next Europe trip I will splurge but in the meantime, I don't think my husband knows they exist.

One in my family wasn't stingy with my Kris Miles.
Suites is a great treat and a really good way of spending your Kris Miles.
We offered another family member a free ride to Europe and he said no thanks.
Remember you will never know if you never ever go.
Another family member runs his friends to Europe in business class but has never flown Suites himself. I booked him one and he changed it to business class when he changed the flight date.

Does anyone know when SQ's A350 will be running on the SIN-KUL route? Hoping to give it a try in March.

The first 3 A350s to be delivered to SQ are still on the front production line (9V-SMA, 9V-SMB and 9V-SMC.)

SMA has begun ground testing and will begin test flights shortly. It is due to be delivered to SQ on 24th Feb with commercial / familiarisation flights normally beginning a few days after delivery.

SMB and SMC are likely to be delivered by the end of April.

The 4th and 5th A350s for SQ have just emerged from asseembly, awaiting painting and cabin fit out.

The delay in production is said to be due to slow supply of cabin fittings and lavatories by Zodiac.

SO there should be 1 A350 operating by early March and 3 by the end of April / early May.

Thanks for such detailed info! Will keep an eye out. Fingers crossed I can score it, but I guess it's going to come down to luck.

You'll know if you're flying on one of these as the lavatory will be a hole in the floor...

SQ experts, a question on award availability. I am looking for availability on SQ 326 SIN-FRA dep 13.55 on any day in July - September and can find nothing in J (using lifemiles). Nothing is ever availability -does anyone know whether SQ block this flight for some reason?

ps not asking in avianca thread as I am asking about SQ in particular

extremely popular route and difficult to find even with KF miles.

i thought the SQ opening up was still only at T-14 for LM - could be wrong about that?

Have you looked at the SQ booking site to see availability?
I checked and selected a random day, 19 July. 2 passengers, one way in J.
Doesn't look like availability is an issue.

That would coincide with the dates that the A380 will be back in town
Ah huh - but if you do a dummy search would appear 380 not the metal PE available on. I did not search must as TBH do not care for PE - go check it Tommy - let them nimble little fingers do some exploring.
