SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I love it tania - just love it. Just ask nicely - very good chance you will be pleasantly surprised - worst case will be sorry we don't have any.

I recently contacted SAA Feedback regarding the matter of non supply of TPR Invistation at check in at both MEL and SYD - response here:

Hopefully this inconsistency will be rectified in near future - my next F dep ex MEL Feb 3 so will check then.

Thanks Cruiser. I'll also check PVG on Feb 1.

We are SO incredibly selfless taking on these quality control inspections personally. ;)

mrsmart you will get to try CA F lounge - looks fabulous but the food offerings terrible - they will have Moët and French red so drinks ok - at check in ask agent do they have vouchers for Cafe Deco if you are needing food before flying - you are on a midnight flt right?

A question - and no judging, we all have our little bucket lists, and one of the things on mine is a SQ bear.
I am in J from BNE - SIN, SIN-BKK, HAN-SIN, any chance any of these flights are likely to have the bear, or is it only ultra long haul flights that have them. Thanks

I think you will have no problem getting a bear on at least one of those flights. We have received on MEL - SIN, SIN - MUC, CDG - SIN, SIN - SYD and LAX - NRT. Come to think of it we might need to stop accepting them :)

Seems very nice – just looking at it here: Air China Showcase New Shanghai And Beijing Lounges | TheDesignAir

Yep, midnight dep so food prior will definitely be needed. Will ask about Cafe Deco.

The lounges look exactly like that! Just a pity the food (and to a lesser extent the drink) doesn't match :( But it's a lot better than the previous offerings.

The food voucher from SQ... very annoying for the midnight departure. They anticipate you will eat at the airport, but then the only meal available on board is dinner, served immediately after take-off - no breakfast offerings at all. Not sure if that's changed since I last took the flight about a year ago?

That is frustrating. Some of the meal schedules are just baffling. At least I'll be in the TPR for breakfast which will be at a much more reasonable time.

What kind of food is in the CA lounge? Is it just short on variety? Or completely inedible?

I dunno if the meal choice has changed?

No no, the food isn't short on quantity or variety. There's lots and lots of it... buffet tables full. Just it's a bit bland. Or tired. Or a combination of both. But it won't kill you.

I'm hoping to get one (or two) to keep Eeyore company...

The food offerings in CA F are disgraceful - do not expect to get a 'meal'. There are multiple mini questionable offerings - none that will satisfy hunger. I do not know if the Cafe Deco vouchers are still available but ask anyway. I was last there Dec 15 I think - same offerings as last year or so - mini Japenese Sushi - an ordinary salad - soup is ok - they will have a couple Westernised Chinese dishes in hot Bain Marie thingies - there is a half coughd A la Carte menu where you can order chicken wings or tiny steak niblets or whatever - but do not think you will have a meal there as you will be bitterly disappointed - but again Moët or the French red will satisfy your thirst.

Whats your plan in PVG pre dep? Midnight flt gives you a gazillion options downtown pre dep to PVG.

OK good to know. First time to the mainland, so no plans as yet. If you have any city tips please tell!

[Mainland] Chinese Airport lounges are a zoo. Plan to eat/drink before you go to the airport, or on the aircraft.

As Cruiser points out, The food offerings are mostly unpalatable garbage. Occasionally there is some Dim Sum that won't kill you, but certainly not worthy of the food cart on the corner, let alone any fine establishment.

IMHO The only thing worth touching is the sealed bottled water and sealed soft drinks (e.g. can of coke). I usually find a spot to sit down with a power outlet, but be warned airport wifi can be hit and miss IME.

Okay, expectations have been been lowered.
