SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Well Uppy not board coz you only heard 3rd bottle popping - when she is about there is more poppin' goin' on that cracker night!

Follow up to some queries about coughtails on board - primarily F - I did question 2 diff crews 2 weeks ago and both said more than happy to concoct any coughtail for pax - if they have ingredients and you have recipe you are good to go.

That's okay. I won't win any friends around here by saying this, but... I get so much more out of flying J/F than the champagne.

I would say that you are probably in the majority of Fcl pax as a whole. The food/beverages/amenity kits are neither here nor there (with the possible exception of Lufthansa and Swiss that actually serve some good food).

FCl is about tailoring your journey exactly as you want it... expedited ground services, peace and quiet, privacy, food and sleep when you want.

You're absolutely right. J is all about the seat/sleep. F is all about personalisation.

Yep agreed mrsmart. Its about being able to do what you want and when you are comfortable doing so, rather than just "getting value for money". if you down multiple bottles of Krug but then feel ill at the back end of the flight (which what would happen to me), thats not worth my points in SQ F/R IMHO

As I have previously posted, I'd love to know what Changi looks like with a clear head. I promise myself before each trip that I WILL find out; then the FA comes along and says "Come, come Sir, ...... 8am?! It's 6pm somewhere in the world! Dom or Krug?"

HALP!

I'd like to book a redemption DEL - BKK (Suites to SIN and J to BKK) around NYE but it looks like I might be breaching "routing rules" - the web site says I'm "backtracking". A quick check shows BKK is indeed slightly west of SIN (Who knew?). Does this mean two redemption bookings?

It looks like you might need to call on this one. While the SQ rules state no backtracking, for a pure SQ award you should come under the 'route restriction' exception (there is no other way to get there except via SIN).

This earlier AFF thread from 2014 gives some hope: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....sflyer-star-allaince-award-routing-61374.html

In the TPR, could somebody tell me which brand of body lotions they provide in the shower room please? I'm very fussy and I need to know the TPR is up to my standard. ;)

Also, is there a choice of F lounge at LHR for a transit?

Salvatore Ferragamo in the TPR.

In Queens Terminal at LHR in Satellite B
Silver Kris F
Air Canada Maple leaf -No separate F from memory
(one other lounge in Satellite B I think its Thai Royal Orchid)

In satellite A (its a hell of a walk to where SQ departs from in Satellite B)
Lufthansa

Great thanks, that will be acceptable. ;)

I arrive and depart into T2 apparently.

A question about SQ awards. Is it possible to book them as a multicity award, or am I stuck with 2 one way awards? I'm looking for ADL-SIN-KUL with a stopover in SIN.

Also need KUL-ADL on the return but VA seem to have that available and it's cheaper than an SQ award. VA doesn't have ADL-SIN, only awards ADL-KUL - so SQ on the way up.

Family trips complicate award bookings.

I think that you need to book a return (if saver) or at least a standard award to add in a stopover if booking online. You may be able to get what you want by calling up, asking for the 15% discount since it's not available online, and paying hte $100 stopover fee.

As the fare shows as two separately arranged sectors ADL-KUL (110,000 pts) and KUL-ADL (110,000pts) why not book as 2 separate redemptions. Book ADL-SIN redemption. Then separately pay for a cheap flight SIN-KUL. This then gives you the opportunity to accept the cheaper VA return KUL-ADL.
At 110,000 pts and $629 fees each way pp it is not particularly great value but that is just my opinion.

Booked as a one way redemption the points required ADL-KUL drops to 55,000. Unless there is something wrong with my browser it would appear booking two singles per passenger will save you 110,000 pts per passenger return booking.

Thanks Guys. I think you've confirmed what I can work out. My plan matches your advice, roughly.

I'm currently looking at Y awards, we need 4x and points are a bit tight. 126000 Amex that can go to SQ and 280000 ish VA points. SQ requires about 8 or 900 dollars extra as cash payment for the awards over VA. VA requires about 25000 extra points - I think those are worth much less that $800.

The other complication is there are 2 more travelling on cash fares. No need to be on the same flight between SIN and KUL, but it could be nice. Plan to keep them on SQ the whole way for he Changi $.

Lounge access is the next issue and Changi dollars might help. Otherwise, we revert to priority pass...
