SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

guys any tips as to using Krisflyer miles to fly from SYD to LAX?
surely by not having to go to NRT first?

You can use krisflyer on any star alliance partner... United Airlines is the obvious for non-stops, Air New Zealand (if you can get availability), or else via SIN on SQ, or Japan on All Nippon.

You can use United's tool to find availability for star alliance flights. You need to look for 'saver' availability (in either economy, business or first).

Wasn't someone asking a week or two back if they are still giving away free coughtails upstairs in worlds greatest DF store? They sure are:

Muhammed has resigned his commission as barman in T3 F and Nasi has taken over - but Sat nt Nasi off so Andrew looking after me tonight:

bc / JT - what you think of my Teddy Bear 'haul' this last week?

They do do actually have girl and boy Teddy Bears so ask for one of each on each sector.

tried using the tool for almost a year out and can't get business savers for direct flights for 2 pax, argh! seems like krisflyer is far more generous

If you arrive in suites early morning into SIN from Europe and have another suites flight to Australia that night, can you visit TPR in the morning, spend the day in Singapore and then visit again in the evening?

sure. Singapore doesn't have segregated arrivals and departures. You are in a common area on disembarking. Just head straight to the lounge. After shower/breakfast, head to immigration to enter Singapore as normal.

Mark you can come and go to your hearts content with same day arr / dep. When returning to SIN from city make sure you access the dedicated F checkin area - if coming by taxi impress F checkin apon them as some are unaware it exists.

SQ's availability for its own members is pretty generous.

The problem with UA (and AA) availability is that it's a popular route, and many awards are snapped up the moment they're released - this is either a business award outright, or through upgrades.

Doing the same next month - suites from DEL arriving in SIN at 6:10am continuing onto SYD at 00:45am the following day - the mother of all layovers :(

Planning to sleep as much as I can and skip brekkie on the DEL to SIN flight, then off to TPR for shower & brekkie - then off to Singapore for the free tour - see http://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/au/plan-travel/privileges/free-singapore-tour/ - then staying in the city for lunch / shopping / drinks then back to TPR for dinner & (several) drinks before boarding the flight to SYD. Gotta make the most of the layover in general and TRP in particular ;)

If anyone has any good suggestions on other things to do let me know - BTW layover is on Saturday so not the best day for Universal Studios / Sentosa (way too many people...)

Thanks very much Mel-Traveller, Cruiser and M@rcoPolo.
Here's another question to consider, there are 4 of us traveling, 1 adult and 1 child each in J and F. Is there any chance we would all be allowed in or just the 2 of us with F boarding passes?

You can ask, but Suites/First class can take one guest into the F lounge, not The Private Room.

(There may be an exception for a suites/fcl pax to bring in a child with them to TPR, but that doesn't get around the other adult unfortunately.)

Cut through the Hilton in Sydney today and had to get my way through about a dozen SIN crew all frantically puffing away on cigarettes before their bus turned up.

I was surprised, given the charm of the Singapore Girl image, that crew are allowed to smoke in uniform.

Two of them are in F though as I read it. If so, wouldn't that be a guest each?

Yes - but guesting rights are for the First class lounge, not the Private Room.

SQ has two lounges for its F pax - they can use either the PR or First Class. TPR is passengers only, no guests. First class lounge will allow 1 guest.

In this case they could all go into the F lounge.

Mark as you enter SKL you are basically straight into J section - F section off to your right but SQ staff will escort you there - TPR is seperate lounge again and entry is down far back end of F lounge. ALL holders Gold R and Maroon F BPs are eligible to enter TPR.

How old are the billy lids? I am not 100% sure from your post if you have 2 adults F / 2 kids J or 1 & 1 F / 1 & 1 J. If both adults in F and kids are kinda young then do ask staff about possibility of kids also joining you in TPR - they may allow it. If 1 adult F and 1 J I think your chances much slimmer. TBH I have never seen or heard of a situation like yours and I am sure others have not either so you are in unchartered waters.

I just have a gut feel that if both adults in F and kids are under 10 or so you might stand a good chance but that really is only a guess - good luck anyway
