SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

It must depend on who is working at the time. We only got 1 set when we travelled back in April.
The screws are being tightened on Changi $ eligibility also - as many would be aware previously if you booked 2 x o/w rdpts you could claim the SD40 vouchers on each leg - now not always.

Rules were changed on April 1 that if you booked return flt to your home country before dep from home country then that would render you ineligible to receive SD40 voucher on both legs - you are eligible to receive Changi $ vouchers once only.

Yes LC rules were changed April 1 - so if you had 2 o/w rdpts then to be given only one set CDs would be in accord with new rules - I have rcvd 2 X CDs 4 or 5 rimes post Apr 1 so yes clearly depends who is in desk.

Am currently posting from 35K ft on SQ217 in seat 2A courtesy 2 X 15MB Comp WiFi Access Cards from DBS - again I have asked IFS to note in his report that a First Class pax has noted it is a disgrace that SQ expect R / F pax to shell out USD15 for 15MB or USD29 for 30MB when EK provide 100MB for $1 - jeez this gets up my nose - and when you pay slow as a wet week if it works at all.

Anyways forget that - seated in 1D is a young mother with her 12mth old son in 1C - cannot stop watching them - is there anything more beautiful to watch than a caring nurturing mother attending to her gorgeous young child? Brings tears to my eyes.

Note: If your reply to above question was - 'Watching penegal finally putting his hand in his pocket to buy his mates a beer' - doesn't qualify - I meant within the realms of possibility!

Getting so far off topic I may have to issue myself with an infraction, but the last comment cannot go unchallenged. I find penegal to be one of the most generous AFFer I have met.

Sitting in TPR just now enjoying my eggs bene and the bloke on the table next door has just blown his nose into his serviette. Must be a cultural difference but really some poor bigger has to pick that up.

Ever been to China? Rarely do you sit for a meal that someone doesn't do same - you are no longer in Australia - your customs / expectations need to be tucked away in back pocket - you are in a new World today - all may just not be how you prefer - but you will survive.

Scheduled to fly 833 PVG-SIN in R on Dec 16 then 237 SIN-MEL in F - 833 delayed by 2.5hrs due to faulty fuel valve - missed 237 connection so SQ sent me to Mandarin Orchard to sleep and caught 217 next morn. So in total in 2015 I did 14 R sectors and 22 F sectors - only 3 sectors experienced any delays at all - and ALL in R on 380! Go figure - 380 unreliable? Coincidence? FWIW I never seem to get delays on SQ - when it does occur such a rarity.

I was wondering about airlines in general and prioritising the A380 ops given the large number of people impacted by any delays and the flow on effects. Fixing a fuel pump on an A380 in Albatross710 perfect world would be higher than a fuel pump on an A321 and definitely higher than collapsing the A330 nose gear at the gate.

And don't forget R and F pax if you check in at SIN F not only are you guaranteed to receive your 'Personalised Hand Written TPR Invitation' - but the indeed the writing will be in GOLD pen.

I can just imagine MEL and Af doing 'cartwheels' after receiving these. ;)

Is it possible to ask for an invitation in SIN even if one has been provided at the start of the previous leg?

Yes - if stopover in SIN and re-enter via F checkin they will automatically offer you a new TPR invite - if you already have one issued at dep port with your original BP - remember separate B/Ps for each sector - just leave original one hidden and flash your B/P - that'll do the job.

Flying on 30 April 2016 - 2 pax one way SYD to DEL via SIN using KR awards... currently it's showing availability in C and waitlist in F

Couple of questions for the experts out there...

1. if we waitlist in F and use miles to confirm in C, can I then get my miles back for the C award if the F waitlist clears?
2. choice for the SYD to SIN leg is 777-300ER or A-380 - which one has the best seats in C / F if we can choose?

Thanks in advance :)

MP technically they are 2 separate bookings so if your F waitlist clears you should cancel the C/J and wait until pts return then take up the F/R. Did you actually waitlist F (77W/77WN) or R (380)?

If your F/R waitlist does clear don't cancel existing booking just call KF and ask them to upgrade it to F/R - depending on agent you get they can do this - it is really quite simple and straight forward so should not be a problem - make sure you have both Booking Ref at your fingertips.

J seats 77W/380 mostly same same - 77WN better than both - R on 380 much better than F on 77W / 77WN - F on 77WN better than F 77W - does that help?

Hey Cruiser - thanks for the quick reply. I've yet to waitlist but it sounds like I will waitlist on R (380) then book on C and play the waiting game...

Awesome - does it mean they would simply take the miles difference between C & F/R without the need to cancel the C booking and wait for the points to return?

Also dumb question - how can I tell if SQ212 on 30 April 2016 is a 77W or 77WN?

YES - pay extra pts and few extra $s to upgrade.

NFI - MEL based - best some Swanette answers that.

FWIW whenever I dep MEL I set my expectations at lowest point - 77W - if 773 happier - if 77WN happier more so - if 380 - grin from ear to ear! SQ very reliable and consistent with aircraft operating routes as per schedule - but with ALL airlines substitutions can and do occur - upgrades are good - downgrades you are cryin' into your Krug - grin and bear it - the sun will come up in morn.

For business class, note the 773 (refub) doesn't have flat beds.
Where have you been MEL - I have missed you. ;)

You are 100% correct 773 has regional fit out - fine for daytime flts but not sleeping - MP did post it was a 777-300ER so I assumed it to be 77W or 77WN.

Totally OT: Change of pace tomorrow MEL - GA J MEL-DPS - am really looking forward to it - have you flown it?

Yes. Should be a good flight. GA has always been good service wise, but they were let down by their food and hard product in business class (first and economy were always good, and their new F on the 77w is supposedly excellent). Their business class offering is pretty good these days, although still angled lie flats on some aircraft.

Now here is a special post for young'uns Tommy, Boomy and infinity - the 3 AFFers who are certain to be walking down the aisle in 2016.

Now whilst you guys are still all lovey dovey with your gorgeous MUCH BETTER halves and R looks so attractive:

Double bed at 35K ft and all - and you will be wantin' to get those precious little bears as momentos of your honeymoons:

Just remember that old dogs like cove and myself are just as happy flying in F as it does have it's advantages:

This will all make sense in good time boys - in good time!

Did GA J MEL-DPS last year. Most enjoyable 5 hour flight to paradise. Food was hit and miss. My indo meal was decent enough. partners western meal a big miss. Champagne french. Service was abit harried, but somehow they picked up on the lushes that we were, and looked after us well. I think because everyone is in holiday mode on that flight staff are busy with wining and dining. And of course, there is nothing to compare on that sector (jetstar, virgin) .... SO ENJOY!
