SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I haven’t found it even under MMB. I resorted to looking at old photos of the cabins on various reviews.
mel-world may be referring to the second seat map both these seat maps are for the a350 from MMB.

This seat map is the a350, SEA-SIN.

The second is also an a350 SIN-ADL which is regional.

My bad; I thought my flights to MEL from NRT would have been on something better than regional 350s. I'm about to fly to PEK and back and it appears all four flights will be on regional 350s as I see the same seat plan on all four sectors. I'll just have to fly longer journeys. ;)

From Mainly Miles website last night:

Singapore Airlines has revealed to Mainly Miles the long-awaited restart of its non-stop service to and from Newark Airport in New Jersey, with the 18 hour 25 minute flight operated by an Airbus A350 ULR returning to the network on 27th March 2022.

The good news is this reinstated link will run alongside non-stop A350 ULR services to and from New York’s JFK Airport, which were launched on 9th November 2020, and will also coincide with an upgrade of the daily New York JFK via Frankfurt route to the Airbus A380.

From an email received a few minutes ago:

COMPLIMENTARY EXTENSION OF EXPIRING KRISFLYER MILES AND KRISFLYER MILESTONE REWARDS

To offer you greater flexibility as you plan your travels in the coming year, we will pause the expiration of KrisFlyer miles in 2022. This means any KrisFlyer miles that are expiring between January and December 2022 will be automatically extended in your account by 6 months at a time, at the end of each month. For example, KrisFlyer miles that are expiring in January 2022 will be extended to July 2022 at the end of January 2022, and if unutilised by July 2022, they will be extended to January 2023.

KrisFlyer Milestone Rewards expiring in 2022 will also be extended to 31 December 2022, to offer you greater flexibility in utilising the rewards earned from flying with us.

Are VA domestic legs able to be booked as part of a *A reward?

I'm trying to book YYZ-YVR-SYD-MEL, flying Air Canada and then virgin for the last leg to melbourne. Obviously can book through to SYD, but would prefer to have MEL on the same ticket rather than a seperate VA booking.

Any advice? Call centre is not what it once was... On hold again to try and get through.

Nope - as VA are not *A. HaPPE to stand corrected though!

Dang. Thanks for the reply..thought as such, but worth a query.

Man, the call centre has gone to hell with Covid. Nearing 2hrs on hold... Never in ore Covid days!

Wow - that's a LOT of seats to NY! Having 2x A350 ULRs and 1x A380 daily to the same city means that they're forecasting a lot of demand for the city; it's not cheap to put that many aircraft onto routes into one place.

That's great news - especially for a lot of people who transferred in a stack of KF in April 2019 (just prior to the sad news of the MR devaluation). I wonder how much longer they'll keep extending miles, eventually they'll just let them expire I'd think.

The call centre really has taken a beating and the days of waiting not long on hold and being teed up with a competent agent seems to be a memory of distant past.
In answer to your query, I don't think a VA flight can be included in the same ticket as an AC flight, however it wouldn't hurt to ask (given that you have to ring up anyway to make an AC booking using KF?)!

It's a relief to see they are extending miles (again).

I've got awards flights booked in J MEL-SIN-HND return in May, I was really happy with the flights I managed to secure, until they cancelled all flights on the day I was meant to fly back, bumping me to a lousy connection the day before. As it stands I'll need to now stay a night in Singapore in order to catch my flight home to MEL.

I also have flights in August -MEL-SIN-PEN return, I had great flights and seats in J, found out last week the SIN-PEN legs have been changed by several hours, and are now on Scoot. :(

I guess these are all part of the perils of attempting to book anything at the moment, but I was surprised that so many flights had been cancelled in May & August, as it's so far into the future. As we know, anything could happen by then! The call centre is so overrun I have decided to not try to change anything as it's all likely to change again. Has anyone else had similar experiences with flights being cancelled so far in advance? It makes it really hard to lock in any (fully refundable) accommodation, as moving flights from one day to the next means doing a whole new booking.

I booked these flights as I had so many KF expiring in March and felt optimistic about going to Asia rather than the USA trip I had been planning in 2020. I'm assuming if I have to cancel all the flights I will get the miles back as they would have been extended anyway?

Thanks for posting after about 60 minutes on the phone (including hold time) I have reshuffled our 2022 plans to the US/CA but now starting on the west coast and heading east and travelling back EWR-SIN-ADL. This flight works for connections to ADL as there is only a 5 hour layover in SIN, we had most of the flights needed when we were starting on the east coast however some were waitlisted and may or may not have cleared. Now all fights confirmed (pending transfer of around 5000 points) and more importantly have drained my KF miles down to zero. I like when an airline starts or recommences routes as there is normally a lot of availability if you get in quick.

I am due to fly tommorow morning from BKK Singapore with TG in the morning and later that eve with SQ to BOM both krisflyer redemptions but 2 separate bookings .
Does anyone know if TG and SQ currently interline ? Ie can I check my bags all the way through to BOM in BKK ?
If not will I have to clear immigration in Singapore , collect my bags and recheck in ?is that even possible without prior arrangements ?
I am travelling on an aus passport and have my negative pcr and international Covid vaccination etc .
Thanks in advance.
How did you get on with this. Did you have a successful transfer in Singapore? I’m am flying in on Qantas and then getting an SQ flight to Maldives the next morning but nervous they won’t be able to check my bags through as 2 different airlines. Thanks

As far as I know, unless both flights are on the same booking, QF will not check your bags through to the SQ flight. This was already the case pre-COVID and so I can't imagine they would do so now. If that's the case, you need to make sure you can enter Singapore (and meet all the relevant health requirements to do so) as you will need to collect your bags upon arrival with QF.

If both flights are on the same booking however, then there should not be an issue.

Anyone transit through Changi recently ex-Aus? I know that travellers from certain countries are held within a transit holding area if they come from a high risk country, but does thjs apply to Australians given our high case numbers, would love to be able to walk around the terminal/use the lounges on my stopover rather than be confined.

I returned a week ago from CDG via Singapore to Melbourne. They held us is an area which was suboptimal to say the least. I would not call it a lounge - it more of a holding area with chairs. All classes together. Food not worth trying. The area was fairly crowded with only a very small desk for a few passengers to do work/ computing. Very few spots to recharge a device. No shopping or lounges.
Then about 1 hour pre departure, they let us out and asked asked us to go to our gate - but nil supervision at this stage and passengers could have gone to a shop without anybody knowing.

My flight 3-4 wks ago from Mel to Europe via Changi had no restrictions at Changi. Could use lounge and shops. No 1st lounge at the moment. They told me 1st class lounge and Private Room due to open March - I tried to sneak a look to cough their progress but could not see anything. The new business class lounge is good - they have a temporary section within this lounge for 1st class passengers only - a very large area occupied by only the two of us.

The rules may have changes since our trip...

I'm transiting on Sunday next. This seems to indicate pax ex Australia can go to lounges and other parts of the terminal.

Remember you need a PCR test 48 hours or less prior to departure to transfer at SIN.
The PCR pre departure can be stressful. We lined up for 2 hrs on Christmas Day ( flight was 27th Dec). Result took longer than expected which was concerning - only received it a few hours before departing to airport.
We ended up getting a second PCR at Melbourne airport pre departure.

My fallback is a professionally administered ANT at the airport before departure.

How far in advance does Book the Cook open at the moment? I thought I read four months somewhere, but it's just over three months ahead of our flights and I can't seem to find any Book the Cook options.

BTC has been cancelled for many flights. Mostly available for flights ex Changi. They told me it depends on staffing and changes daily.
