I'm sure this has probably been discussed, but thought in the current environment are appreciated... I was looking into a trip to Singapore and notice the ex-Syd flights cost more or less the same to other SE-Asia destinations as far as Bangkok and Manilla.

Thought to book multi-city and do a quick (even same day) stop in one of these destinations for the extra KF points? Is this recommended or a bad idea due to other concerns (eg. Customs / immigration)

No… can’t see any major issues with this. The only problem I had with an immediate turn-around was in Seoul, they refused to believe I was there for three hours connecting back to where I had just come from (HKG). But places like Thailand I can’t see them even caring.

Bulkhead seat for extra foot space, makes big difference.

Row 11 opens up few days prior to departure, keep checking the seating from time to time you might get lucky.

Although you are on the same aircraft type take a look at the seat map not just row numbers, it could be you are on the regional configuration exPER and the standard J seat to MXP. If the seat map looks offset it will be regional, if the seats look like they are inline (behind each other it will be SQ standard J. Also with SQ last minute seat selection opens up at different times depending on the route.

I am wondering if you can see out of the window down to the ground from seat 17K A380 SYD-SIN. Or do you look down on the wing? It looks like the configuration of the plane also has J seats at the rear to row 97 if they have better views. Thanks.

The passenger accommodation is split across two decks. The main deck is occupied by Premium Economy and Economy Class cabins whereas the upper deck accommodates the First Class cabin, plus three Business Class cabins

Yes you can but will need to peer out the window. The position of the seat means you won’t be directly at the window

Zero, zilch, nothing in the last 3-4 months.

This is from my partners account, who is a Solitaire PPS (the top published tier, although I'd assume though they do more for those who blow the spending limits out of the water), so I assume chasers are basically useless now.

A couple confirmed as economy savers, but only because the right booking class (M) came available anyway, which Solitaire's have access too for economy saver awards.

Yes it’s really become incredibly difficult in the last couple of months, regardless of class. Chaser requests via the call centre are almost doomed to failure and there is now a message at the start of the call to indicate they are not able to expedite confirmation requests. Having a personal relationship with SQ is the only way to have a remote possibility.

That said, flights are so full at the moment that even waitlisting commercial bookings, in high fare classes, is not even likely to yield positive news any longer for Solitaires.

I’m just back from Europe…all four sectors were 100%. I wanted to make a couple of date changes - all impossible as every other flight was completely sold out. For weeks!

yep. i'm off to LHR on the 3rd and its rammed for all 4 sectors. i was hoping for a free seat next to me (i'm in Y) but no such luck

Can confirm, trying to change a flight back from Europe in paid business class… nothing available to australia with any sort of reasonable connection for three weeks!

Meanwhile we see sub $3000 fares on SQ ex BKK to europe. So the seats aren’t necessarily being filled by top-dollar fares. We just get lumped with the ‘australia tax’.

And great for profits. 30% reduction in your wages bill. Pax on higher fares. Not like there’s any competition for departure airports for 99% of the population

I wonder how long it will last. People in US forums are reporting huge drops in domestic airfares (25%+ — as you can often rebook for free in the US, people carefully watch the prices of flights already booked) over the last month as demand has cratered. As interest rate rises and inflation start to hit people's pockets, it's possible we'll start to see the madness slow. I don't think it'll help FF redemptions as interest rate rises and inflation don't directly affect the value of FF points, but it could help take the bite out of revenue fares.

also, theres a ton of built up demand from those who had bookings during covid but could not travel. I expect that once feb comes (post christmas and school hols) fares will start dropping as demand does, coupled with an increase of seats as airlines return to australian airspace

Cash fares might come down once inflation hits next year but I’m not optimistic about award availability. KF points expire and once SQ stop extending them there will be a lot of members sitting on a lot of points forced to book flights. On top of that SQ heavily restrict award seats on some popular routes.
