SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Available J and R / F possibilities March 31, 2024 - MEL 1 x F Cabin:

SYD 2 x R Cabin / 2 x F Cabin:

Still hard to fathom - MEL can only fill 4 F seats daily where SYD can fill 20? Seriously?

The issue, presumably, is that SQ has a fixed number of planes and has to decide how best to deploy them.

There are limited numbers of 777s and 380s, so SQ has to decide which routes to put them on. The A350s do not have F and they have to be put on some routes.

If SQ wants to add more F to MEL (and they do change their equipment from 1 April to put two 777s on the MEL route), then they have to decide which route(s) to take it away from. I imagine that is a complex calculation based on alternative airlines flying a route, how likely pax are to be satisfied with J, historical loadings, flight times and other factors.

Also interesting that as of Apr 1, 2024 5 x daily SIN-PVG (currently 3) but SIN-PEK still only 2 x daily.

That will help with getting to / fro China in J but ATPIT only 1 F cabin into PVG and zero PEK.

Sigh - long gone are the regular monthly visits to TPR on way over and way back at Saver rates - they really were 'the good old days'!

Guess you will just have to do zoom meetings! :)

Phew,
I booked the outbound BNE-SIN-IST for early July 2024 as soon as it became available.
Was waiting to book the return for 28th July and was very nervous as the availability over the last week has been patchy or non-existent.
Phew - at 10am I got 2 x J Savers for the 28th!
Slight panic when the credit card got rejected on the first go (typo).
Woohoo!!

Sweet-spot at 99,000.

One of my favourite redemptions. If you add connection to another ME port such as TLV for example it’s only 2.5k miles more (101,500 total) :)

I was told last year (by multiple agents) that SQ award flights cannot be combined with *A award flights. I know you could combine them before Covid but I assumed this had now bitten the dust. Has anyone tried to do this recently?

I have been trying to book return awards from Japan for July next year. I would go on at just before 11am which 6 weeks ago was when the new day would be added only to have the desired flights waitlisted. Finally dawned on me maybe they were adding them earlier so went online at 0958 and not up but appeared as 10 am ticked over. So obviously the savers were being snapped up straight away.
So correct time to search for a new added day is now 10am AEST.

Yes, but some flights are never available as savers or only ever available through waitlisting.

You were given wrong information. Practically all my KF itineraries contain at least one non-SQ *A flight.

There are many new and inexperienced agents at KF since covid who have little to no clue about complicated award bookings. Sounds like you stumbled on some of them.

Oh dear. I had wanted to fly MEL-SIN-LHR-WAW-OTP on SQ and LO. When I was told I couldn't have my LO flights, I decided to stop in London, spend the weekend with my mum, and travel from the UK to Bucharest by train. This was an adventure in itself and I had a wonderful Weißwurstfrühstück in Munich and a couple of nights in Budapest on the way - so it ended well for me.

Last week I booked MEL-SIN-FRA-WAW on SQ/LO.

There were flights available on LH but taxes on LO were almost half which is also something to consider when adding intra-Euro connections.

If you have miles expiring in a given month, do they expire on the first or the last day of that month?
