SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

SQ326 swapped from 350 to 380 next year. Normally it’s a good thing but we’re in J and our saved bulkhead seats in row 19 are now just normal seats in the main cabin :(

Been a while since my last time in 380 J, any better options to pre-select (apart from bulkheads which are now blocked)?

Try moving fwd from 19 to mid teens maybe. Sitting together you won’t get a view anyway, the 4 x loos are aft, behind row 24, galley is in front of row 11 and I think that’s also the entry/exit door. There is a smaller cabin, rows 91 to 95 and an even smaller cabin aft of that, but it can get quite bumpy back there in turbulence. Aero Lopa has the best aircraft maps..

Hello everyone,
How is the queue at the SQ check in desks nowadays at Tullamarine Airport ?
I will be flying Suites tomorrow afternoon at 440pm.
And what kind of food do they serve at the SQ lounge ? (It has been a while since i visited the lounge)

The SQ checkin area will probably be a zoo, but just head to the First counter. You may have to wait for staff to finish helping a J customer but you will be up next.

I don’t find the First lounge that exciting, but the laksa is enjoyable. The onboard beverages are much better, so pace yourself in the lounge.

The flight will be very enjoyable. Have fun!

Thank you for the well wishes and helpful reply, much appreciated :)

I must have been very lucky, or SQ has just released a whole bunch of J Savers. Yesterday I've scored 4 J Savers on SQ J HKG-SIN-BNE for mid- January 2024. Actually, I wanted to fly to SYD, but everyday in January is on Advantage waitlist for J's. I guess I will just buy my own way back from BNE-SYD then.

I flew Suites from MEL to SIN on SQ228 yesterday afternoon. Fantastic service by Kelly the Leading Stewardess ( The rest of the cabin crew were good too) The barramundi fried rice is a nice light option for a main meal too.

Overall it was great trying out the new Suites for the first time. ( One just needs to fiddle around and get used to the seat and TV controls) 20231008_204844.jpg

So I just tried to book DPS-MEL (advantage 4 adults 2 children) with a stopover in SIN for few days but instead of allowing me to select seats and pay, it immediately went to a Waitlist redemption.
Thought I accidentally did something so I cancelled the waitlist and redid the entire process of adding my nominees details and went to click select seats and it went through to You're on the redemption waitlist again.

Called up KF centre and managed to get this fake "waitlist" confirmed and paid for albeit was on the phone for 45mins. The agent couldn't explain why it went to waitlist but was able to rebook the entire flight again seperately. The "fake" waitlist booking is still in my profile.
So I had this exact situation again when doing a Stopover trip
ICN-MEL with stopover in SIN.

ICN-SIN was Labelled as Reserved but SIN-MEL was labelled as Waitlisted. I re-did booking and it happened again, then I remember this happened to me before.

I checked those 2 legs seperately and both exact flights showed Availability.

Does anyone know if this is a common occurence?

I'll have to call up tomorrow morning to fix this up again.

So if you call they will allow it as one redemption at the lower rate ?

I called up yesterday to enquire.

They said they couldn't see the availability on their system. I logged in and could see the exact same booking with availability (ICN-MEL and ICN-SIN and SIN-MEL) all with availability for 4 pax. Screenshot it and sent it to them. The operator said he'd have to follow up and call me back as they couldn't see. I even told him about having same problem last year and it was able to be booked on telephone.

He called back after an hour and said they tried everything and it was not available and not possible to book.
He said I can confirm the reserved leg (ICN-SIN) and book SIN-MEL separately as that's available online but obviously at higher rates.

A few hrs later I go check the flights and all concerned flights are WL.

So currently I've got my ICN-SIN "reserved" and SIN-MEL WL.

A couple of questions for the SQ brains trust. I want to write a story (Trip Report) about a very memorable trip I took around the turn of the century and need some research. I've tried Dr Google but hoping someone here has a good memory.

1. I believe Krisflyer was started in 1998 or '99. I moved to SIN in late 2000 and it was definitely operating then. A month would be fantastic.

2. SQ ran a service to ORD around that time. I believe it may have operated via MAN but not sure. An SQ flight number would be perfect.

3. Has the JFK-FRA-SIN service always been SQ25? I remember it used the 747-400 with Business upstairs in a 2-2 configuration. No lie flat seats, more like PE today but a private space with dedicated service from a couple of FA.

Thanks, in advance for any help.

1. It was started in 1999. See here.
2. It was SQ36/35 SIN-AMS-ORD-AMS-SIN.
3. Yes, JFK-FRA-SIN has always been SQ25. There was an alternative SQ23 EWR-AMS-SIN service, also on a 747-400 but I don't know if it was daily.

I had a slightly similar situation to you where I was seeing availability on the Singapore Airlines website but their reservations team couldn't see it on their end.

I was trying to change the dates on one of my award bookings and they said that the availability for new bookings vs existing bookings come from different buckets. So what I could see as a mock new booking couldn't be seen by their team for amending existing bookings.

Has anyone heard anything about the discounts from the 31st October? Can't seem to find much info on it anywhere.

They just had the early bird sale as well only ending a few weeks ago - did they perhaps miss their targets by quite a bit? I wonder if it's a sign of a slowdown in travel demand.

Not sure about shutdown in demand.
Just paid for x2 tix in J for next May; had to wait a week for waitlists to clear to get the flights wanted
