Based on a 2006 design with slight changes in 2013 and 2017

The issue for me is the firmness of the seat, each update made the seats more firm
Having to fold down the seat to go into bed mode
Small area for your feet/having to sleep on an angle (Except bulkhead seats)
Quality of the TV screens - Way overdue for HD/4K

Being in MEL we'll have the oldest product for the longest, so it will be 2030 before we get new seats... :(
 
Sounds like a married segments issue. If you are doing it as an Advantage booking can you break the married sector logic by having a stopover of more than 24 hours in SIN?
@Mr H, the booking I'm trying to make has the SYD-SIN leg on one date and the SIN-HND leg two days later (therefore >24hrs): is this what you mean?

Had a similar issue a few months back, only noticed when the email came saying I'd be waitlisted..

So then went in and cancelled the booking.

Tried again and same thing, I didn't bother calling as I knew it would be a waste of time

Ended up getting J savers instead....
@lovestotravel, I feel that this is what they're trying to do to me. That is concerning.
 
When comparing Suites on the A380 to First on B777, how would users compare between them?

It looks like I'll have to make a choice of on or the other due to the website being a bit odd.

If flying one-way to Australia, the price of the taxes is shown in the currency of the country that you're departing from: is there any way that this can be paid in AUD to avoid foreign transaction fees?

What is considered a good deal? If it's still there, I can pick up connected First flights, with a layover in SIN for 200k Kris Flyer miles (or 155k for one leg): is this good value or overpriced?
 
When comparing Suites on the A380 to First on B777, how would users compare between them?

A380 suite is obviously far more spacious and private, and is a definite bucket list cabin, especially if flying in a pair.

I found the A380 bed to be very firm and narrow. The 777 bed was a fair bit wider and had better padding.

Possibly a controversial take but if it's an overnight flight and you're travelling solo, I'd say the 777 should give a better night's sleep.

The service was otherwise identical.

If flying one-way to Australia, the price of the taxes is shown in the currency of the country that you're departing from: is there any way that this can be paid in AUD to avoid foreign transaction fees?

I don't recall seeing an option, but SQ taxes are so low that you'd be talking max 3% of a couple hundred? So less than $10 fees?

Yeh, I don't recall seeing an option either. In any event, if they did (for some origin points you can nominate to pay in a different currency for cash fares), it's more or less DCC - and probably looking at 5-10% difference instead of 3%.

Get a better card that doesn’t charge the fees or a markup. That will stand you in better stead for all your travels anyway. See the relevant threads on this page or just go with Bankwest.

Krisflyer have set award pricing. There’s no such thing as value or overpriced. It’s saver and advantage and that’s it. That route is what it is, no ifs ands or buts.

Thanks for the quick reply, @sudoer; much appreciated. I ended up going with the B777s in the end, but I definitely want to try out their A380 suite at some point. If I went with the A380 option, I would then need to catch a domestic flight and the timing to meet up for an event that I want to catch was going to be very tight (I just didn't want to take the risk of any flight delays on unlinked tickets).

@dajop, at the point of payment, I was provided with the option of paying in the origin currency or AUD. The AUD amount might've been slightly more than the converted amount with a foreign transaction fee added - I went with the the origin currency. (Oddly, it hasn't appeared on my card transactions yet, not event under pending - every other purchase I've made, including non-AUD purchases, have always appeared under pending straight away.)

@Cynicor, I'm in the process of getting a new foreign transaction fee-free card (I was using Coles before NAB ended that). I looked at the BankWest option but I think that the CBA Ultimate will suit my needs a bit better. I need to pay a largish non-AUD amount next month so I better get a move on with the application process.
 
Hey AFFers. I consider myself to be an advanced skiled mile and point utilisation/maximisation person, but I need help.

I've managed to book us a 30-day holiday luxury holiday for my 50th b-day and our 10th anniversary. SYD-LAX-SAN-JFK-EZE-CUN-LAX-SIN-SYD, all J and USA "F" or Delta One, with an antartic luxury cruise/expedition in there somewhere, and we only paid for 2 of the seven flights (8 segments), and that was becuase of the point to $ value ratio. One is for J for $1200 each (EZE-CUN), now selling for $4500 each, and 1 for "F" (CUN-LAX) that was $800 each and now $1300. Anyway, we've decided, that after a month of luxury, that we would be doing a diservice to ourselves (and all frequent flyers) if we only flew J on the final leg, so we said let's finish the journey in F/Suites (plus I can down a lot of Cristal in 7 hours on a daytime flight). ;)

But... Here's the dilema:

We are booked on SQ, SYD-SIN-LAX, in J. (Saver), on a single ticket booking, even though I had to explain to the SQ KF agent I was trying to get help from that this booking was in fact NOT impossible and it did NOT include a stop-over, as we are not staying in SIN for 2 days but only 2 hours due to the internationa date line and departure time from LAX....

She has led me to understand that the point difference between J saver and F advantage for SIN to SYD is about 125K each.

But, the actual F Advantage WAITLIST is 225K each for the segment on its own. The agent told me she "can't" make me an unticketed waitlist booking for that segment, even while I have the upgrade miles needed in my account. I "have to book online because there ain't any availability on that flight" (yes..... ain't... I didn't know KF opened a call center in Alabama, Man, Trump works fast). But if I book online, I have to have 500K KF miles to waitlist. She could only "unmarry the segments" and then cancel SIN-SYD J saver, and book SIN-SYD F Waitlist"

The questions for your assistance.... (those who didn't skip ahead, sorry for the long post!!!):

1) How do I get on the F waitlist, for the redemption fare difference in miles, if Im confirmed in J Saver??? I've never had an issue getting a reservation that isn't ticketed and given anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months ticketing expiry to transfer enough points over.

2) Was the agent correct. J saver to F advanrage is 125,500 +/- miles per person?

3) When/if they unmmarry the sector to do a multi-fare booking, will the mile requirements change? (will I owe more for LAX-SIN on top of the 125,500 additional from the 136,500 for J we've paid for LAX-SYD).


F is 100% open on this segment (per expert flyer), and we are around 90 days out if that helps.

At the risk of ignoring all those questions, my own experience is that the time to upgrade is on the outward journey. By the time you’re travelling home you are tired and just want to get home quickly - the F would be wasted,

In terms of waitlisting, you need the points in your account to cover the flight, therefore book the waitlisted flights first and then book your actual flight that will use the points.

Looking for some advice on booking SQ to Europe in May 2025. Being based in Adelaide theres no First class from Adl to Sin, so if i try to book online First only mixed class seems available, and the price is not much less than full First from either Syd or Mel.
But if i try to book a connecting flight (eg Adl-Syd) as part of the same ticket, the online booking takes the class of the flight from the first sector, and limits it to business only.
Is there a way to get a connecting flight in the same PNR? Or other suggestions?
