re: Strategy to get "Early" JQ check-in for International

Looking for a quick bit of advice here. Sorry if this is a repeat of info earlier in the thread, I did have a quick re-read and didn't spot anything, but it was a quick re-read - I have to be up at 5.30am tomorrow for a MEL-SYD-MEL, followed by another MEL-SYD on Wednesday (as per below)!

Myself and a friend are flying JQ2 MEL-SYD on Wednesday for a bit of F Lounge action. I've been trying to do OLCI today so we have max chance of getting our BPs as early as possible (travelling with carry-on only too), but when I try the Jetstar site tells me:

Web Check-in is not allowed for this booking. Please Check-In at the airport.

Any ideas as to why this may be, and whether any can be done to fix this situation? It was just a regular booking for two pax made through the JQ website, nothing out of the ordinary at all...

You can no longer OLCI for JQi flights so you have to be at the J* checkin desk a little before T-3 hrs to maximise your F lounge time ~2 hours now.

J* open checkin 3 hours before the flight, so 1440 for a 1740 flight. What you can do, though, is check in earlier if there is an earlier J*i flight leaving that day. In this case JQ61 departs at 1420, so you can join the queue for that one. Note that checkin closes about 30 minutes before the flight so there will be no check in between 1350 and 1440, unless there is another J*i flight that overlaps.

I am on the same flight (28D ATM), and plan to be in the Flounge about lunch time. See you there!

Thanks for the tip Jessica, appreciate it. I'm not sure if we'll get there in time the 1350 check-in cut-off of JQ61, but we might try. Is this method reliable - will it work all the time, or is there a risk that you'll be knocked back for trying to check-in for your flight too early?

We're in 27K and 27J at the moment (travelling with a friend), so not far from you! I'll try to remember to say hi, if we don't somehow spot each other in the lounge prior.

Firstly, congrats on joining the 1,000 post club.
I believe that once checkin is open for an international flight you can checkin for any iFlight that day. I will stand corrected if I am wrong.

Send me a PM when you get to the lounge. I will probably be the one with an iPad open on my lap sipping red.

Provided you aren't checking in baggage there is no reason for you to be turned away.

*Technically* you can check in up to 48hrs before hand at the airport, but good luck convincing the JQ staff to do that...

AFAIK as JQ61 ops MEL/DRW/SIN, the MEL/DRW sector is domestic so pax checkin at the domestic terminal & they don't clear outwards customs until DRW - similar to the JQ81 BNE/DRW/DPS where the first sector is domestic & the latter sector is international.

These flights are operated by either A320 or A321 a/c. The only exception is the JQ57 flight CNS/DRW/SIN which departs from CNS Intl Airport. This is a different scenario from taking the domestic leg of an international JQ flight operated by A330 a/c.

JQi checkin would only be there for JQ flights that depart from MEL Intl terminal eg JQ35, JQ3, JQ7 etc.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like what ozbeachbabe has just posted may throw a spanner in the works for you... I hope not for your sake though! Please do let us know how it goes, though.

I hope to meet you both there. Please don't be offended if I don't, though, or if it's only a brief "hello" - I suspect the friend I'm travelling with may find the whole idea rather strange :)

Thanks for the update Oz, I will try my luck or see if the JQ service desk or QF F checkin can help.

re: Strategy to get "Early" JQ check-in for International

I have just arrived and am settling into my first Delamotte. No check in at the JQ counters but the service desk was very obliging. It was quite eerie to be the only person in the security and immigration hall. I have never seen the place so quiet.

As I walked in I was greeted by the spa attendant, so a facial in an hour once I have had lunch.

I am sitting at the end windows with a green/white shirt and AFF tag on my bag.

We (family and I) managed to check in just before the 3 hour mark (say 3hrs 20min) last July on our way to HNL. The lady on the desk told us it's just baggage peopl;e "down below" that aren't there before the 3hr mark so if you're travelling HLO and they have a desk open for another flight you should be able to check in.

No check in at the JQ counters but the service desk was very obliging.

For the benefit of future readers, my experience was identical - no check-in counters open, but the service desk people were happy to check us in with HLO.

Indeed I am, but with the great weather in Sydney I am considering changing to a Sunday flight and skipping the F lounge.....
