Strategy to get "Early" JQ check-in for International

re: Strategy to get "Early" JQ check-in for International

That reminds me, I'd better try & do some JQ seat selection for the SYD/MEL sector in whY. Has anyone else done this or do you just leave it until the day?

As I did a PBG seat selection would cost me $4 and I’m not paying that, so I just wait to see what I get on the day.

Doing JQ35 Tuesday and have done ILCI and like to thank all for the ideas in getting the JQ35 BP faster to enjoy more time in the lounge, looks like pop in to the T2 QP and get the 'reprint'. Now my question is arriving into T2 on a DJ flight, do you think I could get the free Qantas shuttle from T3 to T1? Or is for just QF/one world passengers? Or should we just pay the and get the bus over to T1?
Thanks again for this site and the people who suggest ideas etc.

You can try catch the Qantas T-Bus, but the last few times I’ve used it I’ve faced some surly staff that weren’t even happy I’d arrived on Qantas and was connecting to Jetstar.

This is my experience as well, they reluctantly let me use the bus since I'd arrived on qantas.

Well you are allowed to use the bus if arriving on Qantas, should be no reluctance at all.

Sydney Domestic Airport (T3) Guide

Otherwise, if not arriving on Qantas I would suggest the train, $5 terminal transfer. The 400 bus might be a bit cheaper at about $2 with luck.

Last week I used the $5 train as I was no using qantas/oneworld.

On 28th I'm flying up on Qantas and will be using the "Seamless Transfer" bus from gate 1 T3. (Not the T-bus, that's landside and costs [FWIW there is no "Qantas T-Bus" per se]).

The luck being finding the stop and it operating anywhere near time...

[edit: I get it now, sorry I'm a bit slow ]

The bus stop is outside T3, timetable and route map here (select route 400): Timetables & route maps — Transport - State Transit Looks like about 2 or 3 per hour on a Saturday starting at 8:15am. Weekdays it starts at 5:43, but still only 2 or 3 per hour. But it is a 2 sector trip between the airports so $2 one way or $1.60 with a prepurchase ticket, if anyone wants to save a few dollars. Overall the train has to be a better option, IMO

Ike, remember tp get the orange 'D' sticker for your JQ boarding pass once it's reprinted. If they don't have them at T2, then ask at the Transfer Desk at T3 before jumping on the shuttle bus.

You'd want to have the 'D' sticker before you arrive at the intl terminal otherwise you'd have to wait for JQ checkin to open which kind of defeats the whole purpose of the exercise!

If its not busy, the F checkin desks staff are sometimes very helpful in this regard.

re: Strategy to get "Early" JQ check-in for International

This thread is a gold mine of knowledge! (That I am hoping to exploit!)

In December my partner (also a WP) will be travelling through SYD to SIN with his sister. It's her first time in the ƒ lounge so it should be quite fun. Incidentally, on the same day I will be travelling from CBR to ADL. As it will probably be the start of my end of year holidays, I'm quite happy to reroute CBR-ADL to CBR-SYD-MEL-ADL to take advantage of JQ35, meet them in the ƒ lounge for a nice meal together before they leave, and then make my way on to ADL via MEL.

I'm currently at the booking stage, and was wondering, am I more likely to maximise ƒ lounge time if I book the whole trip on one PNR through Qantas? Or will I still be ok booking the CBR - SYD and MEL - ADL flights on QF and then booking JQ35 separately? I'm a little concerned seeing as there are no JQ services to CBR so not sure how boarding pass issue would go, etc. Does anyone have any experience with this at CBR?

Thank you so much in advance! m(_ _)m

re: Strategy to get "Early" JQ check-in for International

I was booked on the same PNR Adl-syd (QF) Syd-hnl (JQ) and I had to wait till the 3 hours to get checked in.

re: Strategy to get "Early" JQ check-in for International

As to travelling QF8->JQ35, can someone suggest the best booking options for receiving both BPs in BNE? I have read through every JQ35/JQi(D) thread on here, but was just looking for some clarification and any accounts of success more recent than January, because as we all know, things always change! Note that I obviously won't be checking any bags.

Ideally, I'd like to book QF8 on a QF PNR, and then JQ35 on a JQ PNR with a TT price match (-10%), and pay the ~$17 extra on top for the Plus bundle (points/SCs) to get the most out of the trip (can't add the $17 pack when booking with QF, and won't be checking bags). Although I could always just receive the QF8 BP in BNE, clear Arrivals in SYD and head to the domestic QP for a 'reprint' and a D sticker (or obtain the sticker at the F check-in/elsewhere), before heading back to Departures, this will obviously waste a great deal of time which could be better spent in the F lounge ;)

So, to anyone that can answer them, my questions:

  • Can the WP desk still link QF and JQ PNRs? If not, can the agents in BNE still issue both BPs if I just need a 'reprint' of the JQ BP after doing OLCI, and only attach an orange D to the JQ35 BP (saves a run-around in SYD)?
  • Everyone suggests to visit the SYD QP for a JQ 'reprint'... silly question, but are the staff in the J lounge also able/willing do this if the QP service desk line is long? (have not yet visited the SYD QP & J lounge so apologies for my ignorance if there is only one desk there)
  • If I absolutely have to book QF8 and JQ35 together on the one QF PNR in order to receive both BPs in BNE, is it possible to then use the MMB features on the JQ website to add the Plus bundle (to ensure points & SCs)? (I'll assume the answer is no, but I haven't seen it asked before)
  • As to JQ30 (MEL-SYD dep. 11:35) on Wednesdays, is the procedure the same to obtain an early boarding pass in MEL (eg. via the QP), or is there a different procedure? I don't think I'd be awake in time to arrive for the flight before the 8:35am check-in, but just in case it happens!

Sorry for the detailed and complex questions, but there are a couple of close friends that I'd like to treat to an F (or double F) lounge experience (one who thinks that the SYD dom QP is "amazing"), so I'd like to open their eyes just a little, and by having such a long transit in SYD, if we can remain airside, it significantly increases our chances of being able to book a spa treatment, as well as having a decent breakfast and lunch to make the early start worth it! :) Thanks to anyone that can help! :)

I'd like to know the answer to ChrisCh's questions too. A question for you, ChrisCh. Are you sure you can guest 2 people into the F lounge - or would you be doing two different trips?

re: Strategy to get "Early" JQ check-in for International

Tiger will have SYD MEL for $29 from midday!

By the rules it would need to be two separate trips.

I don't believe you can add a price bundle on a TT price match.

From what others have reported you won't be able to do that. Jetstar will only price match to their starter fare and they won't allow you to add any of the add on packs plus or max. As that would then make the fare changeable. They will allow you to add luggage. But if you want starter plus you'll have to pay the normal price.

Correct - it states specifically in the price match conditions that plus packs are not eligible.

If you want early access to a BP your best option is to get it all on one PNR. You need to decide if you want a price match or points or to enter the lounge early.

The last time I did this I asked for a Jetstar boarding pass in the QF J lounge in BNE.

Hmm well it's months away yet but I've booked it - and will try this out. I can put up with a nasty look if it gets me a couple of extra hours in the F lounge ;)
