Strategy to obtain US Amex

But as I have zero financial activity in the US, at least the last 20 years, the plan is get a debt card, stuff it full of money(5K or so) and wait 3 months or so for them to tell you to get this credit card offer. If I go for a CC with a fresh address and ho history, it will cause a black mark I think
An easy way into the US credit card system and to build up credit is to apply for a US Amex through Global Transfer (assuming you have an Australian Amex for more than a few months).

TextNow. Apparently it can't accept the verification texts so they were able to verify me by asking me questions about my credit history. They even linked me to my sister who was not at the same address (I was using our mother's address prior to 2016) she had her own house.
I. Believe a paid text now subscription can receive verification texts

I do have the cheap $7 paid subscription and I have received texts from 5 digit numbers regarding when I updated my details in B of A transaction account. But I think banks can tell if a number is attached to a telco like T-Mobile or an online phone app.

There are also free services online that can lookup numbers.
Some show up as telcos and some are VOIP numbers.
But generally, to receive the identity verification texts that banks send, you'd need to have short codes available on your number.
You can perhaps contact your provider and ask them to activate it if its already not.

I think the problem with Chase is that they don't send verification texts to prepaid numbers because prepaid numbers haven't been subject to identity checks (as opposed to numbers on a plan that are subject to identity/credit checks).

Is it absolutely necessary to be able to receive verification texts with chase ? Is this for logging into internet banking ?

Not absolutely necessary, but makes things like adding cards to Apple Pay a lot easier. Harder to do without text messages as you have to call and go through a big verification song and dance over the phone.

Hi everyone,

I applied for a US Amex on 8th July, and still haven't heard anything. They did send me an email asking for some more information with a letter, when I try and click on the link it gives me enter your zip and SSN (obviously I selected I didn't have one in the application), so I can't login. Also, there is a link to upload documents, when I try and do that it says nothing else is needed. Any clarification would be great.

Call Amex. They will be able to inform you of what is needed. If it is something straightforward, they might be able to approve you on the phone. For me, it was confirmation of address. A three way phone call with Capital One was all that was needed then approved on the spot.

So, you used the GT method of applying? Therefore, a SSN is not required. When you phone, you could say that you applied through GT and do not have a SSN as yet.

Application by Global Transfer, where your relationship with Amex Australia is used to apply for the US card.

Edit: When you login through your Amex Australia account, the US card application would have had some pre-populated information loaded. You probably would have read about this upthread anyway

Is it easy to apply and be approved for the Citi premier card online if you have an itin ? Is it recommended to open a Citi checking account ?

Hello everyone,
I created an online account for my Priority Pass membership (Obtained PP from Amex Aspire )
I put Australia as my country of residence, and then my Australian postcode.

When i checked my details on the PP site, i realised that my delivery address has the MyUS Express Lane address, but my postcode and country are Australia.

Should i bother to call up PP to update my address ? (I could not change the address online)
Since i already have the PP digital card on the app and on their website?

Thank you.

I did a notarycam for Amex. They accepted my Aussie passport. I offered an expired US passport as well, they chose the current Aussie one. Not sure about the address issue.

I spoke to AMEX USA and they informed me they will probably need some pay slips to confirm income. Anyone else experienced this? It looks like I have hit a roadblock.

Not necessarily payslips but a Wise bank statement for my US account which I downloaded. Sent it straight to their document upload system. That was all I needed.

I got this after requesting for a credit limit increase since I didn't have a credit score.
The alternative was to provide payslips which I ignored.
