Successful QF 'Bid Now Upgrades' data thread

Not me, but daughter flying on the red eye tonight from PER to BNE was offered a bid. Put in $225 & 4000 points and was successful.

Very happy daughter, lounge access in Perth, thanks to the generosity of pksw lounge pass to use in Brisbane before flight to NTL, and bus lounge access in SYD before flight to BNE on Friday courtesy of her parents who are off to Adelaide for the fabulous Titanic Tour organised by Buzz !!!! I think she might decide to fly a bit more to get to gold !!

Interesting. Was she upgrading from Discount Y, Y or Flex Y?

Got my first offer today for my upcoming PER-ADL trip, which looks *extremely* full right now in Y.
I'm contemplating putting in a bid, purchased Flex Y (M), but not going to bemoan missing out if not accepted.

Will see how it goes.

Why not put in a Classic Request as well and see which one of any you get?

I got one for my flight today (ADL - MEL). I'm not going to have time for dinner in the lounge beforehand so for the minimum $95 and 3k points I thought it worth putting in a bid.

Got an unsuccessful email this morning, so I guess it's the Y class meal for me today haha.

Well unless I get super hungry and want to burn 10k points for an on departure upgrade. :/ Better have a big lunch! Gee now I sound food obsessed lol

Unsuccessful for MEL-SYD upgrade tomorrow. Opted for minimum 3k pts and $95 cash.

Interestingly the J cabin looks a tad empty, showing 5 available tickets on Expertflyer loadings... (I'm flying at 10:30, so outside the Platinum Express operating times)

Guess they didn't want my money. Lol.

My offer on a MEL-BNE flight was 3000 points + $150 as a minimum.Didn't bid.
If I was to bid reading through the posts here I would bid 3000 + $155.Most seem to bid the minimum.

My offer on a PER-ADL flight was 4000 points + $150 minimum and was unsuccessful. Flight is packed, and there seemed to be a few seats left in J, but maybe somebody felt that the upgrade was worth more and had their bid accepted.

Not worried, the points can be saved for a business upgrade that's worthwhile for me - J on the A330 out of BKK instead of cramped into Y seating. :)

So considering a V class classic upgrade costs 7,500 points - you're essentially paying $150 for 4,500 points. Doesn't sound like very good value to me.

EDIT: sorry :/ just read this thread is just for the data not discussion

It gets worse.

I received a bid offer for a PER to SYD flight. Red e-deal so normal upgrade cost is 20,000 pts. The max points I can put in is 19,600. They want a minimum of $85 for the remaining 400 pts!!!

Why would I not just do a normal upgrade or am I missing something?

And what's so bad about that?

I got that offer on the same route and decided to bid, just to play the game once. It was an evening flight and $150 + 3K points is not a bad value upgrade from red-e-deal. The bid wasn't successful and J was eventually full so I guess someone outbid me.

Just become aware of this thread. Many thanks Jessica Tam, very good idea which could become very useful over time. We received the offer for LHR DXB 9th of this month. Did not bid, and details no longer available. One reason for not bidding was that I already had an extra legroom seat.

Just had an offer for my flight next week. classic upgrade available for 15000 points. Can bid 3000 points + $150-$390 or 14700 + $55-$295. Not as bad as 400 points for $85, but still 300 points for $55 isn't going to happen. Not that attractive, except if I don't want to use the full 15000 points.

Whoops. Just realised I put in the wrong fare class. JessicaTam could you change my Y to "O" please?

Consider it done.

Will update spreadsheet when I get to a PC. Received an offer for BNE-SYD flex fare - minimum 3,000 points and $35.

This is a peak hour flight 17.25 on Friday. No U available at time of offer.

Decided to do an experiment. Made an offer of 3,000 points and $40 ($5 more than minimum). Also then lodged a classic upgrade request 5,000 points)

Result: 24 hours prior, email that the Classic request had cleared. 12 hours prior, email that the bid request had failed (presumably because I was already in U)

It would seem that Classic requests so get processes before bids, at least for this SG.

Hello,

Has anyone had a bid now upgrade email for QF93? What sort of points/cash would one expect to bid to be in the mix for a successful upgrade?

Thanks!
